  • Nissan Juke - New Juke Diesel 18 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I was lucky emough to get an offer to swop my 2011 model for a new one for the princely sum of £150. I do the same journey (Blackpool to Bristol) every week, and in 13k miles the old Juke consistantly averaged 47-48mpg. On the same trip, I've just seen 61.8mpg in the 2012 car. Performance doesn't seem to have suffered and the new car seems much quieter. Nissan should be singing from the roof tops about this!
  • Fitting a roof box on 'backwards'. 22 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I need to go on a trip carrying 2 slim roof boxes on top of my car. Unfortunately both boxes open on the right hand side so I am thinking of fitting one backwards so I can open the boxes on either side of the car. Anybody knw of any reason why I shouldn't do this?

  • Odd insurance clause 13 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Car is a 3 year old Audi so would obviously prefer to have any work done by a VAG approved shop. Insurance company not named for obvious reasons.

  • number plate spaces 1 Jun 2009 (Forum)
My car has just had an MOT, and passed, but was I was told my plates were illegal as the gaps between groups exceeds 19mm. Now my car is 4 years old and the dealer supplied the plates ( my own reg though) I never thought to question the gaps, nor did the MOT last year.

  • Does red fade? 21 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The non-metallic red is generally a few hundred cheaper than metallic. We like red, so this isn't a problem. But SWMBO keeps her cars for 10 years, and we used to have an old red Polo which faded quite a lot over the years. Does non-metallic red on new cars still fade over, say, a 10 year period? If so, we'll pay the extra to go metallic.
  • Small/medium automatic needed 18 Jan 2009 (Forum)
A work colleague is looking for a small to medium sized automatic. His wife has MS so needs the auto for her occasional use and the car will do at most 5,000 miles pa and probably less, with most journeys being about 3.5 miles each way to the office. He wants a small to medium sized car costing no more that £4,000 and probably no more than five years old.
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 01 1.0 Aerial: adjusting the angle 13 Oct 2008 (Forum)

  • Transferring Personalised plates process? 15 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi folks, I am selling my old car on ebay as we speak and need to transfer my personalised plates off it before I sell it. Has anyone done this as I have a question.... If I go down to the DVLA today and get the transfer onto retention sorted, will I get a new V5C immediately or will they have to send me one in the post?
  • An interesting letter from the NMR 4 May 2008 (Forum)
Hi All, I've just had a letter from the National Mileage Register for a car I part exed over a year ago. They've written to me asking me for the mileage of my old Vauxhall Vectra which I traded in for my current MX5. I presuming either the dealer or the subsequent owner has clocked it.
  • When garages replace parts 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
i was just wondering do garage mechanics get the hump with people if they insist on seeing the old parts replaced on picking their cars up. the reason i ask is because im thinking of marking things in the engine bay should it need to be repaired i want to be sure that im paying for new parts that have actually made their way into the car and not just as far as the invoice.
  • Parking S/hampton Docks 21 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Dear All, I am going on a short trip on a P&O liner from S/hampton in September and thought, despite some advice to the contrary, to leave the car at the docks, F.O.C. I presume that one leaves the keys. Do cars get moved around by the staff? That in itself does not unduly bother me, but the old Merc' has got what can only be described as an alarm system with half a mind of it's own and I don't want to return to a flat battery with all the attendant problems.
  • Insurance for young drivers 18 Jan 2008 (Forum)
A friend of mine is selling her cheap (£795) car to a 17year old girl who has just passed her test. Her mother is buying the car for her as a present, and does not drive. My friend said she would try to help her find the best insurance deal, so are there any companies anyone could recommend who might specialise in this field.
  • ANPR Question 12 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Reason i ask is i see all the "traffic Cop" type programmes and often see them alerted to No insurance , Tax and MOT alerts, i was wondering about company cars that are covered by bonds or block insurance, would these keep ringing the alarms everytime you pass one? My old firm had a "bond" as it was a transport company and all cars were just under that, surely on ANPR thsi would flag as no insurance held?
  • Permit charges based on length 20 May 2007 (Forum)
See this report: http://tinyurl.com/34x2c7 The headline may not accurately reflect what the council has said, but charging people by the length of their vehicle can not be described as helping to choose a green car. Maybe in crowded residential streets it may encourage people to have small cars so you fit more in, but that can only work if people park correctly. If, and a big if, the council thinks this will cut emissions then a 15 year old Fiesta is going to pump out more nasties than a brand new Ford Mondeo.
  • Carcraft 16 May 2007 (Forum)
If so how much i.e. would £6k get me a £6,500 car? If I bought say a 2 year old Ford Focus would I be right in saying that there would be a 3 year manufacturers warranty with this of which 1 year would be left on this which would be transferrable to the new owner i.e. me?
