BMW 523i E39 - What stopped my car?! 5 Feb 2024 (Forum)
On Saturday, my 2000 year 523i suddenly died on the motorway. It was like it had run out of fuel. AA diagnosed fuel pump as no fuel at rail and it was recovered back. New pump arrived today and fitted. Car wouldn't start, seemed to be no power at pump. removed the relay in the boot and tried jumping + to gnd but no pump running. -
Economy question 16 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I think like most people that if you put your foot down you use more fuel BUT If I travelled say 70 miles on a motorway in 1 hour at 70 mph would I actually use more fuel than if I travelled 70 miles in 2 hours at 35mph? I would by cruising in top gear at 70 and assume the fuel ratio would always be optimized by oxygen sensors unlike carbs of yester year. -
Nissan Micra - Fuel Tank Capacity 1 Oct 2021 (Forum)
i am due to have my car go in for a service/m.o.t. tomorrow and i have been advised that the car that Nissan will give me is a Micra. they have told me that it will have a quarter tank of fuel and that i will need to re-fill before i return it. I understand this. i have tried to explain that this may be an issue in the current situation. my question is this how far can i expect to travel with a quarter tank of fuel in a Micra and not run out, using average speed, tyres and wet weather conditions. i need to be able to travel 55miles at least to get from point A to Point B and then back to point A. -
2005 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec petrol - 2005 Ford Fiesta: stuck fuel filler cap 9 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Does anyone have any experience of this or suggestions? Is there an alternative release for the fuel cap anywhere? Is it just a case of spraying some WD40 inside and hoping for the best or is there a definitive fix? Cheers -
Fuel Pre-Payment 14 May 2018 (Forum)
Bit like hire car and hotel pre-payments So what if you want to pay by cash ? Reminds me of visiits to States when you had to pay for fuel before delivery which made it difficult to 'fill it up' ! Do they still do that ? I plea for the return of petrol pump attendants I loved this bit: "Mastercard said the move was designed to prevent drivers from filling up with more fuel than they could afford" I thought thats what credit cards were for - credit !. -

Fuel Benefit - It's not always a Benefit 14 Jul 2016 (Forum)
As we do alot of work with companies supplying company cars to employees, the question of Fuel Benefit comes up alot. Often it is perceived as preferable for a company to supply the employee with a fully expenced car (i.e. all personal mileage paid for by the company too). Many are surprised to learn that unless the driver is doing (as a general rule of thumb) over 10,000 personal miles per annum (often it needs to be more), the employee is paying over the odds for their fuel by between 2x and 3x the pence per litre cost. -
Ford Focus MK2 2.0 TDCI 2010 Reg - Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI high pressure fuel pump change 3 Jul 2016 (Forum)
It sometimes comes on and off driving at low speeds. There is no loss of power. Main dealer plugged it in and diagnosed erratic fuel pressures. Says the fuel pump needs to be changed at a cost of £1800. I was wondering if it's worth getting a refurbished or second hand pump and installing it myself. How difficult is this job and any advice would be appreciated. -
2013 BMW 5 Series Touring SE 520d - Wheel alignment and fuel consumption 5 May 2016 (Forum)
I've just had a full new set of tyres fitted to my 2013 BMW 5 Series Touring at 29,000 miles, the garage also did a wheel alignment check, and some adjustment was made to the toe on all 4 wheels. My fuel consumption has now increased from around 53-54 mpg to consistently under 50. The new tyres fitted were exactly the same as the originals (Pirelli Cinturato P7s). The garage has rechecked the alignment and says everything is okay, but the fuel consumption has not improved. -
- Supermarket Fuel Telegraph Cars Section Today 2 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Writing in todays motoring section Alex Robbins says there is no empirical evidence to show that Supermarket fuel is inferior. But a local company that manufactures Spectroscopy equipment have told me that when used to check fuels, the supermarket diesel was found to have less additives. And therefore inferior. -
2001 VW Golf 1.4 - Does my fuel filter need changing? 21 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I know it's impossible to tell the condition from the inside, but from the state of it on the outside would you say this fuel filter hasn't been changed in a LONG time? Pic here... http://s17.postimg.org/ym71e2cf3/fuelfilter.jpg I've turned my attention to the fuel filter from my own research on Google. -
