  • Renault Clio dti Power steering probs 13 Feb 2003 (Forum)
He applied a hammer to the pump and it kicked into life. So...back to the dealer where it worked perfectly. Adamant that I didn't want to drive it they agreed to keep it for an extended test - one week later after a daily drive it didn't fail. What can I do but drive if away!! Here we are 2k miles later and its failed again!!! Welcome any clues.
  • *Golk MK4 Vibration URGENT HELP required 17 Dec 2002 (Forum)
s coming from the passenger side and gets worse when you speed up round right hand bends. I then changed the drive flange, didn?t work. Then put the standard suspension back on, the vibration wasn?t as violent, but still there. One garage said it was the diff bearings. I took it to VW and they diagnosed it as the passenger drive side drive shaft.
  • Evil automobile 12 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Apologies to all the people at South Mimms services who got deafened yesterday evening when it finally fired and I revved it a few times to clear the plugs. At least the French tourists appreciated it. I doubt I will ever drive a more scary car - I've never been so frightened in my life, although it actually turned out to be fine once it was running, if a little vague in corners. And as for the sound - just beautiful. Can't wait to drive it again, but I must get that starting problem fixed.

  • Honda CRV - Someone has scratched my windscreen - need advice 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Once we had done this I simply dropped him off home, drove home to my cul-de-sac, parked said car in drive and then saw the scratch on Saturday morning when I got in the car again. So, I drive out to meet some friends on Saturday, rant at them about this scratch on the driver's side - it was a bright sunny day with clear blue sky - then drive home, parked car in drive again, did not look at it on Sunday but got in the car yesterday to go to a meeting and right in front of my driver's view was an almost identical scratch, albeit it feinter and thinner, on the driver's side of the windscreen directly in front of the steering wheel.
  • Any - Tyre tread depth needed in Germany 12 May 2025 (Forum)
I'm intending to drive in Germany this summer and need to know how much tread I must have on my tyres. I found an old thread on here that said categorically that a minimum of 3mm is needed, and even if you are on that limit you won't be allowed to drive away Searching online I find that the minimun legal tread depth is 1.6mm, same as it is here Does that mean the German authorities are enforcing a recommended tread depth and not the legally permitted minimum.
  • Any - Car for the Mrs. 30 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Good morning backroomers, Hope everyone is well?  The Mrs takes her driving test tomorrow after years of me nagging for her t learn to drive. Shes 41 and is doing it in an automatic (no problem, my last 3 cars have been auto).  Im reluctant to put her on my insurance as I think my car is way to big and powerful for her at the minute being a new driver (assuming she passes).
  • Genesis gv80 Vs Mazda CX-60 11 May 2024 (Forum)
I've always had Mazda's mostly the Mazda 3 but need to size up now and the CX-60 would be ok for our needs but am thinking if waiting for the CX-80 to be realised as it gives us more space but I've also test drive and checked out the genesis gv80 which I did prefer the interior was beautiful and it was more comfty to drive in but I don't know how reliable they are and have read mixed reviews on Hyundai since I know they own genesis.
  • Ford fiesta - Oil light stays on then service message next day 30 Apr 2023 (Forum)
I checked the oil and because I’m an i**** the oil was below min having not been topped up in a while.  I stopped driving and topped the car up to near max this morning, took for a half hour drive but light stayed on.  I’ve then just started the car and the ‘oil change due next service’ warning has come on and this makes sense as last service was 11k ago, but this is nearly 24 hours after the light first came on.
  • Nissan x trail - Nissan x trail 2015, horrible squeak. 29 Mar 2023 (Forum)
My nissan x trail, 2015 model, has done 100k miles and more recently, its developed a squeak, which is more audible, when driving at a speed under 15 miles. The sound happens after driving for say a distance of 5 miles and it's like a loud squeak, almost as though, when the wheel is going round, its catching onto something.
  • Components ICE verses Electric 12 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I got to wondering what components are missing on your EV. Radiator//hoses/water pump/car heater/auxiliary drive belts  Drive shafts Alternator/Air filter/oil filter/coil packs/spark plugs/all sensors that monitor the engine/battery/Throttle body Exhaust system/catalytic converter/cat sensors Engine/gearbox/clutch and or auto gearbox/engine/gearbox mounts These all add up to a tidy cash sum.
  • Ford Transit - Family Insurance on a Minibus in Ireland ! 23 Apr 2021 (Forum)
She is meant to move there in May and will use a green card from her existing UK insurer that will cover her for the 1st month. She is happy to comply with all the rules and change to Irish reg plates and even retake her driving test for minibus use if this helps. BUT....can she find anyone to insure her for social & domestic use in the Republic of Ireland? NO - not one single company. My daughter can surely not be the only woman in the whole of Ireland who has a big family and drives a minibus for non commercial reasons.
  • Vauxhall Insignia 2011, 2000cc SRI - Loud knocking noise. 22 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Hi, Last week my wife drove to the shops and the car was driving fine. After an 1 1/4 hours she came out of the shops and was driving home and the engine started to make a loud knocking (tapping) noise. The knocking noise does not stop its continuous when stationary and gets louder when driving the car.
  • MK4 Golf - Power steering leak puddle under car! 24 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Will some sort of stop leak work as the problem would only seem to have happened over the last day or 2 with the car sitting? (There was no fluid on my drive last week, and the car hasnt been anywhere)

  • Nissan Primera - Wheels turn when I drive over dip or hole in road 2 Dec 2018 (Forum)
When I drive the car, and I happen to go over a man hole (the kind which dips down and not level with the road surface) or a dipped bump in the road or a pot hole, the wheels will turn to the left or right. I then have to pull steering back to the centre.
  • 2016 Peugeot 308 1.2 THP - Engine cutting out dangerously when driving 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
I have lost faith as this new car with only 3660 miles has failed me 4 times without any warning as driving in traffic - once approaching a roundabout and twice whilst overtaking. It doesn't restart for some minutes causing me great anxiety as the the traffic jams grow. No faults show up on the cars computer listings.
  • Today's test drive 19 Apr 2015 (Forum)
A BMW 320i GT x drive and it left me underwhelmed. Excellent interior and very well equipped, but it had a manual gearbox which was very notchy, a heavy clutch and it required far too many revs to prevent stalling, but it does auto start if you do stall so they have thought about it!
  • VW Polo - VW Polo 1998 - Cold weather battery problems 24 Nov 2014 (Forum)
He recharged the battery and we drove off and he tested it again and said it was fine. I am now worried to drive again and worried it may stop. The rescue guy told me to warm up the engine for 30 minutes before driving off. Would it really take that long? Does anyone experience similar issues?
  • Fiat Panda automatic - Summons after admitting guilt at scene? 2 Aug 2014 (Forum)
said none relevant to driving and No: just oversensitive accelerator on the automatic....police caller said automatics are the worst. Car uneconomical to repair, so I've a manual Suz Splash now and even took a refresher driving lesson.
