DIY servicing - Extended intervals - a proposal? 29 Jul 2013 (Forum)
A period when, in my opinion, some damage is done to the engine. Advantages (when filter not changed): No potentially damaging priming period on initial start Simpler/quicker oil change. Less mess (used filters always are messy to handle) Save a tenner Save a bit of oil (on the non-filter change service) Possibility of using cheaper oil?? -
Oil changes 28 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I see that someone (in Saturday's Telegraph) has had the temerity to challenge HJ's advice about the frequency of oil changes (a braver man than me, evidently!). The fool goes on to suggest that his Skoda Octavia is fine with its oil changes at 20,000 miles. What I should like to know is: a) who is this character, so we may avoid his car when he finally parts with it? -

Oil change prices 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Today I have been quoted £18.99 for an oil and filter change on the Laguna, Using semi synth oil. It was by those boy's in the blue outfits, does anyone know of any cheaper deals around? This one looks pretty good to me - not worth getting under the car to do it myself at this price. -
Ford Mondeo 2.0 tdci 2017 - oil change message at 7000km 22 Aug 2023 (Forum)
First the guy in the garage poured Total Quartz (which had to be fine for the model) Last year was fine but this year had to change the oil 2-3 times then I blamed the oil and last time used the original castrol from the local ford dealer. The issue is still on. The ECU recalls error message of "oil deterioration". -
Mitsubishi Outlander - Outlander gear change stiff after oil change 14 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Anyway, we had the oil changed but since then 1st and 2nd gear are stiff to engage. It's going back in for them to have a look, but they insist they will have used the right grade oil. I'm beginning to wonder whether chaning the oil was such a good idea. -

Motorcraft oil or Castrol GTX Magnatec 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)

Oil filter change 29 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I have always in the past, (with older cars) after changing the oil filter, immobilised the ignition and spun the engine over for a few seconds in order to get the oil pressure up, before starting the engine properly. Is this good practice with a Cat, or am I in danger of flooding it with fuel? -
Oil change? 16 Jul 2006 (Forum)
My less-than 20,000 mile Almera has done nearly 5,000 miles since its last service. The service interval is 9,000 miles, but that feels to me like a long time to run on the same oil. I'm no mechanic, but I do know that on diesels, frequent oil changes are one of the most crucial parts of maintenance, and although this car is petol-engined, I'm wondering if it'd be wiser to get an oil-change now. -
Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - 07 1.4 Gearbox oil change 20 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have had a Yaris 1.4D4D from new (11,000 miles now) and would like to change the gearbox oil but, because it's still under warranty would prefer to get the main dealer do do the work. However, they insist the latest Yaris does not ever need a gearbox oil change. I said, I would still prefer it done, but they say "no need, it's got special oil that doesn't break down" etc etc.
