Why is it so desirable to own a VW? 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Take the Golf for example: In a basic form, the Ford Focus is better. The Golf only gets good from Gt Tdi's, GTi 150 Turbos, V5's and V6's upwards. VW has some good engines, granted: But I've so many friends that have nothing but serious faults and quality issues. So, Come on, Educate me. Cheers - Jon S -
Mercedes S Class Transmission 4 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Had complaints about severs judder on start off and thumping changes between 1st and 2nd on current shape S Class models built late 1998 through 1999. Can anyone shed any more light on this, particularly Andrew Bairsto in Dresden. Apparently the box was modified for 2000 model year and the problem then disappeared. -

BMW Mini Cooper S R56 - Headlight issue, Xenon Headlight 21 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Hope " elekie&a/c doctor" is still around giving excellent advice ! I've recently become the owner of a 2007 R56 Cooper S. My third mini and I love it :-) The N/S headlight has a funny quirk. When I switch the headlights on, they both come on and rise to the correct height, as they should do. After a few seconds, the N/S headlight switches off and on a maximum of 3 times a second or so in between and I get a "light alert" come up on the tach and then the flashing headlight stays on and operates perfectly. -

Audi A4 TDI 143 S Line 2008 onwards - buying advice 4 Jul 2014 (Forum)
some of these cars seem like spaceships 4 year old models with 150,000+ miles on the clock, suspect they are sales people driving these up and down the country is these anything specific I should be looking out for ? the 2008 s line onwards didn't come with sat nav Ultimately should I just go for a newer a4 with sat-nav SE model or buy the S line with better styling body kit. Will a 10k Audi a4 with 80-90k on the clock live up to expectation in terms of reliability and life ? -
Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - 2.2 TDCi engine and run flats - experiences? 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I'm considering a new S-Max and on paper the 2.2 TDCi looks like a good option next to the 2.0 TDCi (very similar running costs but a good bit more peformance). Just wondered if anyone had any real world experience of this engine in the S-Max, good or bad (I've seen the thread about the dodgy mapping - did a fix for this ever emerge?) -
French Notes 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Q - Equally, how can there still be a French motor industry when they seem to keep their cars for so long? I have seen Ami 8's, Simca 1100GLS's, Renault 16's 19's and 21's all huffing and puffing away Q - Why, when they are doing roadworks on a motorway, are there not 200 miles of cones and 1 lane and traffic jams for miles before you get to them? -
Peugeot 406 auto gear change 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
ve never been convinced by the gear change on my 406, it doesn?t slam instantaneously into the next gear like all my other autos have - sometimes it?s as slow as changing manually and kind of revs inbetween changes. The down -shift is fine, it?s only while shifting up. Sometimes it changes up - down - up in quick succession as if it?s not sure what to do. -

mini cooper s 1 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Having been delighted with my previous Mini Cooper, I bought a Mini Cooper S in July 2003 from deleted . Unfortunately my particular vehicle had a fault when moving off from cold. Although the dealer rectified this by reprogramming the software, it resulted in a new fault, causing \"lumpy\" acceleration between 2500 and 3500 rpm; I believe this problem is well known to BMW, and has been described by American enthusiasts as the Yo-Yo effect. -
