  • Return from Val D'Isere 2 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Incidentally, this was one unlucky little motor car, leaving aside the horrible "enamel mustard" paint job. In the space of a week it pickled up a parking ticket, got towed away and got shunted in a car park by some Christian soul's 4x4 (tell tale bumper height), the driver of which naturally did not delay him or herself to leave details. (Second time a 4x4 has done that to me actually.
  • 406 Cambelt Gone - worth repairing? 10 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Engine light comes on the dashboard, flickers once and stays on. (The "K" light). I hoped it was ECU or fuel pump.. Towed to Garage by Mr Boarhunt. He said "compression sounds like it's gone, 98% sure it's timing belt. I've been doing this for 16 years, buy a japanese model instead - only been to one in last 6 months (and it was a flat battery)" (This has been heavily discussed in other threads I know - just giving my tuppence worth) My possible courses of action: a. get Cam changed (£200)- sound a bit steep - 3.5h@£35 p.h.
  • interesting sat telegraph this week 11 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Interesting motoring section in this weeks Saturday telegraph, interesting to see the Transport Research Group Director not towing the government line. Gatso's are nonsense But so is the wider way the roads are policed We should not just be knocking the government?s crazy way of running the transport system, we should also start listing some of the obvious positive suggestions to make things better For instance (off the top of my head) - less bans, more retraining, retests, e.g. court tells you to take X hours of driver training in the next 2 months and pass a retest in the next 4 months - is much more likely to improve the driver than a ban - start attacking really dangerous behaviour (e.g. double parking outside schools, parking on crossing zig zags (unless there?

  • Did speed cushions damage the tyres on my wife's Ford Focus? 22 Oct 2010 (Ask HJ)

  • Looking for SUV suggestions 4 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I had a 07 suzuki vitara which got written off for unrelated reasons, and handled that hill with ease (even towed the volvo up it a few times on ice). I'm mostly driving on tarmac, but want something that can handle occasional off road. I work from home so yearly mileage is quite low, probably sub 10,000km.
  • Audi Q2 - Audi Q2 clutch failure & left on suspension blocks 14 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Unfortunately after a few weeks of a gluey feeling with gear changes and also a weird burning smell, the clutch completely failed last week and the car was towed to our nearest Audi dealership for diagnostics. Yesterday we received a call that the mechanics had investigated and a new clutch flywheel etc is all required at just over £2600. On top of this they discovered the suspension blocks had been left on the front car causing potential engine damage and have quoted a further £1100 to fix it.

  • MB C200 estate - Cost of an oil change... 4 Aug 2017 (Forum)
So I want to keep the car and given that it has 15500 mile service intervals and given that I do a bit of caravan towing I thought I'd have the oil and oil filter changed half way through the service interval at 7750 miles - Honest John recommends this too. First call to MB (Sytner) of MIlton Keynes. I get the car booked in before the helpful girl tells me the cost.

  • 2011 Nissan X Trail Tekna - Nissan HDD system, Sat Nav unfit for purpose 12 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Please have a look at he forum, especially as their advert says ‘always know where you are’, and that is a lie. The kit has sent me towing a 24ft caravan over Snowdonia to get to Anglesey, which was scary. I have recorded the other issues in the forum. This ‘pup’ may end up killing someone.   Stefan Carroll 10, Lowfield Close, Newton with Clifton, Preston .
  • 1.2 TSI vs 1.6 CR 105 - Skoda Fabia - advice to a colleague 6 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Her best mate told me all this (another colleague) and I said - right car (she has a dog and needs storage for camping and to tow a trailer) but totally the wrong engine. The colleague in question had a chat to me today and I explained that with her annual mileage and the type of driving (mainly through town with the odd motorway jaunt) haivng a diesel would be totally unsuitable.
  • Citroen C5 - Compensation for faulty car 13 Jun 2011 (Forum)
After that it showed ‘oil pressure low stop’, so I stopped immediately.   The car was then towed to the garage who said that it was outside their warranty scope of 3 months / 3000 miles – although it was still within the three month period, I had driven 3800miles!   I feel that the turbo charger and engine of the car should not have failed at 70,000 miles and their suggestion that the engine needed to be replaced leads me to believe that the vehicle was not of satisfactory quality, as laid down by the law.
  • Ford Mondeo - Mondeo 2003 2.0 TDCI fuel problem, 2 May 2011 (Forum)
i managed to get the car towed back to a yard and take off what was a suspected fuel filter problem then put a air hose through it to clean it out, replaced this and tried to get the car running.  no joy as the fuel looks to not being pulled through.
