  • Road tests 7 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Why is it that anything with a blue oval on the front seems to get rave reviews despite the opposition? They are not all that good. Yes, the later focuses handle and drive well, but the front wheel drive transmission noise on these, Ka's, fiestas sound like a tractor. The 1.3 engine in the old Ka [and some of the old fiesta's] is little changed from the unit in the old 1960s Anglia.

  • How to use the least fuel in a set period? 4 Aug 2008 (Forum)
While driving my recently born baby boy round to settle him down, I started wondering how to use the least fuel while keeping the car moving. I'm not interested in the mpg, just in limiting the fuel used. We have some quiet estate roads where I live where it's safe to put the car into 1st and drive itself on tickover.

  • Car buying dilemma 4 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I really could do with some advice on buying a car. At the moment I'm doing 80 miles round trip to my fulltime job, mainly driving up and down on M4 and I've got a pizza delivery job as a part-time and I drive around 200 miles per week there too. So I want a car that would be best for both worlds. What would you suggest? I want a car that's very reliable and cheap to run.

In my previous topic it has come to my attention that there more corsas written off then there're of fiestas, but is the fiesta any safer & more solid then the corsa due to it's slightly heavier body? or am i just a bit cynical? • Toyota Avensis 2.2 175 bhp diesel 7 Jan 2007 (Forum)
HJ speaks well of it and it the performance and economy figures look promising. (Emissions look low, too.) I've arranged a test drive of an Avensis, though I may not get to drive the high-power diesel version. I've been impressed with my Peugeot 306 HDi and I might not want to change it. Can the Japs really produce a refined diesel?
