hi,,i have recently been doing a bit of off roading,,
yesterday one of the fellas asked me about welding his diff on his 00 frontera,,
how do i go about this,,is it simple??
he only uses it mainly off road,
so i dont think the on road driving is an issue,,but it will be on road a bit,
i imagine on road driving would be a bit hairy?? or would it,,??
regards james.

Forget it; unless always driven in the clag, the horrendous wind-up in the axle will break the half-shafts in seconds.
It would be undrivable on a wet road too.
Tell him to find a breaker's Trooper with G60 on it's chassis plate; they had a lim-slip fitted.

It's likely if you weld across from a differential gear to the differential casing, you'll be welding across different metal compositions, so, the weld won't be ideal.

Oh yes! The steering wheel will snatch out of your hands as soon as you try to corner on tarmac, and the transmission windup will be horrendous.
If the car is only ever used off road, then, OK, but, for road use, diffs are needed, and aren't luxurys!

thanks,i will pass on msg,,to be honest i wasnt keen on welding his diff,,i kinda knew it would cause problems,,,
as for the lsd on a trooper,,is it a simple fit or do ratios and things come into play,,,

Never tried it; but they're from the same family, so it may be possible - even a complete axle swap.
A bit of googling might answer the issue.
