  • Used Market Petrol v Diesel Study 12 Sep 2011 (Forum)
When 'total cost' is listed, this will include the purchase price, as we try and work out how long it will take a diesel to 'make back' the outlay. I will only use examples from dealers, trade ads. All cars will be in very good condition, no Cat C or D examples will be used for the purposes of the test. And all cars have full MOT's and warranties provided. The Cars Ok lets kick off with one of the lands most popular cars, the Ford Focus.
  • Have I bought a lemon? 1 Nov 2012 (Ask HJ)
Having been impressed by my husband's i20 I test drove (twice) a used Hyundai ix20 1.4 CDTi Style on 15 October 2012 as I was looking for a suitable replacement...
  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 99 3.0 530d Autobox Issue - ?? 9 May 2009 (Forum)
The oil was no longer Red, more of a really dark brown (not black) did smell burnt.. smelt like old oil. the viscosity I would say was like a 0-5W engine oil....where I understand ATF (yea I know these cars use a special L.Life fluid...) should be more like 30W. It is not possible to drain the Torque converter on these babies without taking said box out or doing the old oil cooler off trick and running the engine.
  • BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe - BMW buying experience 30 Oct 2017 (Forum)
The whole transaction has to be done at the Ipswich branch and if I want the car delivered to me, I have to bear that cost - it feels like they don't want to sell the car to me as I am given a cost at every turn.  I asked for an extended warranty or a free service etc to lessen the burden.
  • Hyundai i30 (2007 - ) - Review 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The gear change is still a bit notchy. The four-wheel disc brakes seem powerful to me but I had never driven a car with four to date. I do mostly medium and long journeys, keep mostly to speed limits, use block changes wherever feasible, have the aircon more on than off (otherwise the front windows mist up) and mpg to date, according to the computer, is 42.2 (although I make it 39 ) giving, if true, a useful range of nearly 500 miles.
  • new car/ dealer-v-supermarket -v-net 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
So, based on Natasha's Daddy's current thread 'Help Needed' and my own new car sourcing experience of the last week, thought some comments and advice might be a good idea? Natasha's daddy has bought a new car from a 'car supermarket' which advertises quite heavily in the press.
  • My question to an MP regarding Bio-diesel - Reply! 4 Feb 2011 (Forum)
4 November 2010 E-9096/2010 WRITTEN QUESTION by Syed Kamall (ECR) to the Commission Subject: Diesel particulate filter (DPF) I have been contacted by two constituents regarding an EU legislation issue which is causing concern among owners of diesel cars. One of my constituents owns a 2008 Volvo diesel-engined car that was the subject of a safety recall by Volvo owing to concerns that rising oil levels in the engine may cause the car to ‘self-fuel’, thus making the car run away without it being possible to turn the engine off.
  • VW TDI crankshaft problems 10 Sep 2003 (Forum)
As i have no confidence in original dealer authorise current dealer to sort problem. £170.00 lighter i pick the car up - seems sharper etc. 1200 miles later flat spot is back and car running like a \'dog\'. Call dealer inform of problem. they say it may cost to sort but I beg to differ and book car in. Car in - fuel pump timing recalibrated and they inform me that \'sorted under parts warranty\'...hand car back with fuel pump timing recalibrated and seems ok. 1500 miles later same problem (car running gutless and problems starting etc).
  • Skoda Yeti - My Yeti(s) 25 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Towards the end of my time with this car the timing chain was beginning to rattle and would have no doubt required replacement (under warranty) before too long. Other than the Bolero being slow to load / read MP3's the car was otherwise faultless.
  • Choosing an MPV 14 May 2007 (Forum)
Diesel is out of our price bracket, but we are low mileage users and the petrol costs on our Galaxy never crippled us, Grandis should be a little more economical. My wife fell in love with the Warrior, leather stitched seats, flip down DVD player (to keep the kids happy), sports kit, etc. Dealer offered us a 21 month old car with 14,000 miles on it for £13,000, still with 15 months manufacturers warranty.
  • Any - Stop / Start Systems 10 Dec 2017 (Forum)
So it decides to manipulate market forces by setting a VED regime that cajoles consumers into smaller more efficient cars, which in turn cajoles manufacturers to make more efficient cars. It uses CO2 as the measure to provide a percieved link between pollution and the size of your car. It's phsycological warfare - trying to shame you into a smaller engined car.
  • Land Rover finally admits it has an issue.. 11 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Jaguar Land Rover Highlights 2021 The bad rep can also be attributed to automotive vloggers. Doug DeMuro used to daily a Range Rover, and over six years, CarMax paid him an eye-watering $21,276 in claims for a $3,699 warranty. The Fast Lane also deserves to be mentioned because the four-cylinder turbo engine in their new Defender gave up the ghost after only 167 miles (269 kilometers).

As I have a works van and what with lockdown restrictions I still haven't really used my new car on a regular daily basis probably done less than 300 miles since I've had it  As I bought it for social reasons days out etc In all honesty been wanting to give it a good motorway run for a while but reluctant due to the £200  fine of breaching lockdown !
  • Hyundai i20 (2009) - A worthwhile deal? 10 Nov 2009 (Forum)
So I think that for a net outlay of 4-4.5k SWMBO could end up with a brand new 1.4, 5dr i20 complete with the five-year warranty. There is nothing wrong with her Yaris at the moment, but in five years time it will be 11 years old and although we don't need a new car the opportunity to upgrade for such a relatively small sum seems very attractive.

  • Excess fuel consumption 3 Jun 2011 (Ask HJ)
I've had a VW Polo 05-reg for 2yrs. I'm lucky if I get 25mpg urban and 32mpg maximum on a decent run at 60mph. It's always been same.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2005 tdci Head CRACKED!!! w pics 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
At 3:30 i get a call from the girl on the service desk saying its not good news, the "head is cracked" i asked her what caused this and she basically said driving too fast or long motorway runs, i explained i need my car for business use, therefore it is of no benefit to me to abuse it. Anyway i arrive at 4 and talk straight to the mechanic, who showed me the cracks, i showed the girl from the desk the problem, she said the service manager is coming in the morning to get a fuel sample analysed, i explained this should be under warranty she says talk to this guy tomorrow etc, etc blah blah.
  • Air-con question - T Reg Peugeot 406 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
But we'll leave that for now... The Air-con was lovely and cold when I picked the car up, I've been using the car (and thus the air-con) 2 or 3 times a week since, and over the last week or so have noticed it's not been managing to get as cold as it was when I picked it up, to the point this weekend where it wasn't changing the temperature of the air at all.
  • Audi A3 2.0 TDi 170PS DSG - a review 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I now have and I've done a first review: After two years and 32,000 largely trouble free miles (two minor warranty claims) in a 140 PS A3 with DSG I decided to upgrade to the 170 version with DSG (now S tronic). The car was ordered in the second week of March and I took delivery on Thursday. Changes to the car It?
