  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1998 1.7 Rough running diesel. 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I drove it after she used it and for me it ran OK. The local garage, not being a diesel specialist, looked at the fuel for water contamination and said it was fine but changed the fuel filter just as a precaution. Apparently the fault is still there. I have now booked it into a diesel specialist for investigation.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 HDi Meridian MPG has dropped 12 May 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, I have a 2000(W) 306 HDi, which i purchased recently. I was after a car that would be very fuel efficient and after reading that the 306 HDi can return on average an impressive 55.4mpg. I was concerned when i found my fuel needle was approaching reserve a lot earlier than expected. I calculated that i was getting on average a very poor 30mpg!!!
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 2.0 HDi - Fuel Economy 9 May 2008 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2001 HDi - lift pump - risk of high pressure pump? 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
    I've just changed the in tank fuel pump after it failed and fuel filter. I've read horror stories of the high pressure pump failing and being costly. Am I at risk of this? its done 180,000 miles but still feels smooth. Its due for an mot and requires a new rack and maybe clutch but i dont want to spend money on it if its going to cost loads for a pump {year/engine details added in (found via forum search - points to those 3 separate requests that ask for it to be included - DD}
  • Do you refuel Courtesy car? 28 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Maybe I am a sucker, but I always replace fuel used in a Courtesy Car - I just think it is polite. My son has collected a car from our local indie garage just as they were closing. Noticed it was low on fuel so drove approx. one and a half miles towards the nearest petrol station and ran out of petrol.
  • Audi A6 + RS6 (1997 - 2004) - HT Leads - replacement time? [as plugs, cambelt?] 3 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I had a bit of hesitant starting 5,000 miles ago [1998 Audi A6 2.8, now 98,000] but all is OK now, so thought it might have been a tankful of dodgy fuel. I bought it at 77,000 with FSH so I am fairly certain they are original. Is there not an argument for routine replacement as early sign of failure [un-noticed misfiring, especially on engines with more than 4 cylinders] could damge the cat with unburnt fuel?
  • 1990 XR2i starting problem? 10 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Is it the fuel pump? Or could it be dodgy wiring or just the immobiliser? Help????????
  • No temperature gauge! 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
But I do like to see how the coolant is warming up, and even more to see how the oil is warming up - as on my MINI Cooper S. Still, the BM has a 'fuel consumption indicator' and does have a fuel gauge thrown in too. Apart from this relative lack of instrumentation, the latest 3 seems a fine car.
  • Car mileage question 2 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Main rule change is this: "All employees who submit mileage claim forms for journeys undertaken after 1 April 2006 are required to provide VAT fuel receipts." "The employer will not process car mileage claims for payment if the empoyee fails to submit fuel receipts in support of the claim." Due to the fact we get paid four weekly mileage claim periods nearly always straddle two months.
  • Smokey A4 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
In the past few days of hot weather, I've noticed that my A4 TDi 130 has been very smokey even on relatively mild acceleration. I've cheked all the usual items, ie the fuel consumption is still very good at 50+, the air filter is definately not too bad and the fuel was Shell with a tankfull of BP from yesterday. Oil consumption is still negfligible, and performance is still perfect.
  • 96 fiesta Endura E 1.3 cutting out 30 Apr 2006 (Forum)
This only seems to occur when decellerating or if you rev the engine say over 3000 revs and drop off quickly. It feels like it's not getting enough fuel, checked the spark plugs, they look ok. It's had a new fuel filter, air filter, took off all the air sensors and throttle body and cleaned yet the problem still persists. I think its come to the point of having to spend some cash but where do I start??
  • 99 Passat Engine Problem 6 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I had run the tank down and following this the engine seamed to surge or as if you were braking but only during motorway cruising, seamed OK around town. Decided to get a full service and change fuel filter, but now it is worse? Been thinking of things like: Flow level meter, fuel pump, temperature sender, type problems. There are no warning lights on dash board so I'm stumped? Reluctance to go to dealer dueto cost, but the backstreet boys can run up an equally large bill.
  • white smoking diesel - Ford Maverick 2 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The past few weeks it has been running rough when first started with white smoke and misfire type feeling. yesterday when on motorway it started smokin white smoke at 2500 to 3000 revs periodically and felt as if misfiring and underpowered. Had it serviced in the summer and have used redex stuff in fuel to clean injectors and just chnaged fuel filter but still running the same. It wont rev over 3,000 and starts smoking and spluttering at just under 2,500 revs.Feels as if misfiriing. Runs fine when warm with no smoking up intil these revs.

"this does not happen all the time" normally the next day its fine! any ideas please! new ignition coil and fuel parts have been replaced! Tony K.
  • Biodiesel and VAG cars 19 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The dealer however looked on their technical documentation which said biodiesel should not be used in a Touran at all (and Golf V, Golf plus and New Passat). This he explained to due to the fuel filter being too fine and/or the particulate filter. A couple of questions: Anybody else heard that a fuel filter can be too fine? Also, on the continent, in many contries all diesel is 5% bio. The dealer thinks that this is also a no-no!
  • Running costs vs delivery charges 16 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Having recently acquired a retail business, I am increasingly being asked to deliver low value (£20/£40) bulky items after work.Depreciation on my 2.4d VW Transorter is minimal after 7 years, but it still requires fuel and servicing!I do not wish to turn away custom, but I refuse to deliver free of charge. My actual fuel cost is around 13p per mile, but wear & tear have to be taken into consideration, so I propose to charge 30p per mile, which includes my time.
  • Mondeo to Escort engine conversion 17 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Put them together and away we go, well almost, the turbo inlet is slightly different (used old turbo) the fuel pump is different (so used old one), engine fitted, everything is bolted on but... It will not start, it is though the fuel is not getting to the pump or from pump to engine, forgotten which. All obvious connections, pipes, lines etc, have been connected.
  • Smelly Peugeot Diesel 307 8 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Following its first major service it intermittently stinks badly of diesel in the cabin, most consistently after running normally a while from cold, until it's at least half-warm, then pulling up at a junction. Fumes clear on moving off. May recur at later junctions, but less. Garage says 'no fuel system leak' and the exhaust is OK. I suspect an unburnt fuel build up somewhere on the inlet side of the engine which then blows back. I don't think its fuming all the time and I just pick it up in the cabin when I stop.
  • non start punto 29 Sep 2004 (Forum)
any suggestions on the cause of a non start punto, its a v reg mk 2 1200 8 valve with 10k on clock, checked for belt snapped,ok we have fuel and lots of it, we have spark, checked all engine management fuses. Iam informed before it packed in, it was running poor, no power spluttering etc, then it broke down. We have good fuel pressure at the rail although not tested with a pressure meter.
