Something interesting for £7k ? 21 Mar 2019 (Forum)
In my head any car that gets 30mpg or better is a winning proposition. As engine technology has moved on since Saab created my engine it looks, on paper, like BMW can get well in excess of 250hp from their 3.0 litre six and still get 35mpg. So most likely candidate is BMW E92 330i, post 2008 when the new gearbox was available. I quite like the Audi A5, the 2.0l TFSI engine would appear to be pretty good, but what about the gearbox ? -

For my thinking, having now owned an Outback for 9 months I have to say that £ for £ it is the best engneerd car I have owned (even better than BMW & MB) and it is cear to me why you see websites conatining stories of people doing 400K to 500K miles in them without too much bother. After that it has got to be Honda, Mazda and Toyota/Lexus. -

MG - MGs leave Longbridge for dealers 12 Sep 2008 (Forum)
As well as producing cars, it was used as a munitions factory during both world wars and began production of the iconic Mini in 1959. It also produced the popular Metro and Rover 200 models before the Rover company was bought by BMW in 1994. BMW subsequently sold the firm to the Phoenix Consortium, under whom it went into administration in 2005. The collapse in 2005 led to the loss of about 6,000 jobs. -
Auction Brokers 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi All I wanted to start a post on experiences using auction brokers. I used snipped a few years ago to get a BMW 5 series. he was on 7% commission back then. The car i got was really well used, in black which i had specifically excluded when talking to him, and had lots of other issues like badly scuffed wheels, no service book and no V5 - which i had to get duplicates for. -
Which company currently impresses most ? 13 Oct 2007 (Forum)
But just putting your loyalty aside for a moment - which of all the car companies currently in business impresses you most. For me I think it is BMW. IMO they have been brave enough to challenge previous design thinking and whilst many have not gone as far as BMW nearly everyone is moving away from the curves and adding more striking lines and creases etc. -

New car dilemma 14 Oct 2006 (Forum)
(even 3 year old new model Accords are coming in for this money now!) On the other hand they're boring old Mondeos and Vectras! I could however get a 1998 BMW 7 series (728i) for about 4 or 5 grand with full BMWSH. Okay, it only does about 28mpg and would have a mileage close to 100K, but what a lot of very special car for the money! My intention would be to keep the car for 3 years and so by my reckoning the BMW would be cheaper over the term with the lower purchase price and the lower depriciation despite the increased mpg plus it would be a lovely big, safe car to waft about in The sensible bit of me feels a bit nervy about buying something like a 7 series though.....decisions decisions! -

Help. 5 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I have a BMW 5 series 96 old model, and when I bought the car it had nasty metric wheels, so I contacted the local BMW dealer to get some new alloy wheels. Now I know that the old shape 5 (known as e34) has very slightly smaller wheel hubs than the newer shape (known as e39).
