  • Strange things to be nicked off cars 17 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I'm more perplexed than mad... Looked at my car today and noticed someone had nicked one of the plastic hinged covers that go over the wiper arm nut. It was the passenger one as well, so they would have had to leant into the middle of the bonnet to pull it off.

There are many three or four-year-old Tesla's on the market, probably because the four year 50k warranty has expired. I have read many horror stories regarding...
  • My premium increased after a no fault claim - should the at fault insurer cover this cost? 16 Oct 2017 (Ask HJ)

  • Bmw x3 2.0 diesel - Bmw x3 f25 rear diff problems. Warranty repair? 15 Aug 2021 (Forum)
They said that there was loads of swarf in the oil and that its making some bad noises. My mate has gone too the original garage where he Brought the car from but they are saying that the diff isn't covered under warranty, vearing in mind he paid extra for the upgraded warranty. Surely a diff should be covered as its not a wear and tear item like they like too call everything.
  • Short term learner driver insurance - recs? 8 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Does anyone have any particular recommendations for short term (ie 2-3 days) learner driver insurance, to cover my son for a few days while he is home from university to do some practice driving on my car (he has his provisional licence, and has had professional lessons - I'm just wanting to take him out so he can build experience)?
  • Dunno. Some kind of 125cc Yamaha - Scooter sans dipstick? 19 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Is this a new “feature”, recognising the realities of Taiwanese maintenance habits, or did I somehow miss it? I’ve read some cars (BMW 1-series IIRC) now rely solely on a level-meter, but I thought I’d be able to avoid that kind of crap for a few years yet. There was a plastic screw-in port covering the upper tappet (lower cover was metal) which I could have added oil through, but no obvious way of telling how much
  • SEAT Alhambra - G201 ESP brake pressure sensor 1 Aug 2013 (Forum)
If that is the case then my warranty clearly states that the ABS pump is covered. How can I find out if the sensor is internal or external to the ABS pump in my car? I have a 2008 Seat Alhambra 2.0TDI Stylance. Thanks.
  • Grand Scenic - air conditioning 17 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Also, the renault forum says that the faulty wiring to the a/c compressor  (DF1070) is covered by a recall but we are being charged over £150.  Has anyone else had this done and been covered by the recall?   Thanks
  • Six month lay-up 6 Aug 2008 (Forum)
My daughter's leaving the country for six months, and will be laying up her five year old MX5, by leaving it outside on a hard standing. I've suggested a car cover and solar trickle charger (although they seem mutually incompatible) to no avail. I've convinced her to put the hard top on. I've read the FAQs, and done a forum search. It'll be SORNed and have insurance cover.
  • Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Tyre goo 4 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Annual fee or pay on call out? My breakdown cover is with autoaid (pay and claim and much recommended), not sure what help they would be but I can call my own contractor rather than theirs if I breakdown and subsequently claim the money back. I'd have to check the small print of their policy but even if not covered I'd like to know of any 24hr national tyre services if they exist.
  • Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 94 2.0 Mk 3 DOHC Ecotec Petrol - Clutch Change 7 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I tried to change the clutch with the gearbox insitu, following the Haynes Manual. After removing the end cover I was unable to withdraw the drive shaft as there was no thread in the shaft to attach the slide hammer. There is no end cover bolt on the drive shaft. I have done this before on an Mk 2 I used to own.

  • Aston Martin DB7 (1994 - 2003) - Insurance 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
As the owner of a number of high performance cars, including an Aston Martin and an Alfa Romeo GTA, I always regard it as a personal challenge to improve significantly on my insurance renewal premiums when I am notified of them. I have just received my Alfa renewal and it was £423 including breakdown cover.
  • Ticking Fiesta 27 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1 year old Fiesta with the 1.3 iron age engine which has covered 5,000 miles. The first thing I noticed when driving was a ticking / tapping noise at mid to high range revs. The decal on the rocker cover illustrates that the exhaust valve tappet clearance be set at 0.5mm, the handbook suggests 0.3mm.
