Parking fine whilst on holiday in Jersey 23 Jul 2017 (Forum)
This understandably fell on deaf ears at the penalty office (we could be telling a porky or scamming) Thing is, the fine is £100. Technically we were displaying an out of date badge so are 'guilty' to the letter of the law, but it was an innocent albeit foolish mistake. I'm going to appeal in writing when we get home, including a photo of the 2018 badge. -
Alli - Attempted fraud 12 Mar 2012 (Forum)
The fraudsters have managed to find a way past the two levels of security that dealers have on autotrader and have taken over the dealers website . The scam works by having a buyer e mail rather than ring the dealer . The story is always the same ,you are asked to deposit money by western union in your own name ,if you're not happy with the car when you see it you can recover the money . -
is my car registered? 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The DVLA asked what office the dealer dealt with, and I provided the details - they are investigating. There is now scam here - this was a merc main dealer, so just cockup, not conspiracy. However, I'm now worried about if I should actually be driving the car. Has anyone any experience of these matters? -
Road User Survey - Highways Agency 25 Jan 2009 (Forum)
An interviewer will visit soon to question face-to-face one member of my household, aged 17 or over and selected at random (so that will be either Mrs D or myself). Fearful of a scam, I Googled and came upon the National Road Users' Satisfaction Survey 2007/8 Annual Report:- http://tinyurl.com/dbddeo Clearly it's legitimate but equally it's evident that the questioning will be detailed and intrusive: age, employment and health status, household income, ethnicity and that's before the serious stuff starts about usage and perceptions of the Highways Agency network (motorways, trunk roads). -
Who was driving Speed Cameras 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Perhaps some people even take a driving test and apply for a licence in a false name - used to put the points on? Clearly the police and government know that this goes on and perhaps other similar ?scam?s, but they do nothing about it. Does this not prove that speed cameras are used mainly for generating revenue and have little to do with road safety? Tom -
Mercedes-Benz C200 - K&N air filter voided my car insurance 9 Sep 2022 (Forum)
So today I got the phone call to say they have voided my insurance on the grounds of not declaring the modification, so I need some advice on how to get my money back off these scamming crooks! (deleted... avoid at all cost!) Its took 10 weeks to get to this conclusion, within this time I have lost my job due to not being able to get to work and developed minor mental problems and caused me a lot of stress which obviously the insurance company didn't give a toss about! -

My name is Justin and I will be dealing with your query. Before I am able to respond to your complaint and for the security of your policy, please could you confirm the following information. -
Something Fishy about this??????? 26 Oct 2004 (Forum)
They are both foreigners who want to buy it and basically said they would buy it just from my description without even seeing it. The following is an email I have just received. I cant help thinking there is some kinda scam going on here. They want to know my name address and phone number. Does this sound a bit dodgy to anyone else? The Email: Hello, Thanks for your mail response, i am okay with the condition and am okay with the price of the 1991 VOLKSWAGEN POLO GT 3dr (£400), A client of mine is owning me some funds in United Kingdom (£4000), I will instruct him to issue a cheque for you, and as soon asthe cheque clear. -
In Car Cameras 16 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Had a collision occurred, i have no doubt that the sterotypical respoinse of 'truck too close' would have been the cause. This then got me thinking. This incident, along with the increase in crash for cash scams, is now the time to invest? The Roadhawk DC-01 seems to fit the bill - but before I leap and part with the best part of 200 sheets, has anyone any experience of the device and given your chance again, would you buy it again? -
The "Frying Squad" 13 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Just saw this on Yahoo news: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/021008/80/dberg.html "Frying Squad" swoops on fuel scam drivers LONDON (Reuters) - A Welsh police team dubbed "the Frying Squad" has been formed to sniff out motorists who fuel their cars with cooking oil from fish and chip shops in a bid to avoid paying high government fuel taxes. -
Selling on Ebay - Tips/cautions Please! 11 May 2014 (Forum)
What is the most secure method of taking payment for the whole car ? Obviously cash is best - but then forged money could be handed over ? Are there any scams involved with Bankers Drafts - I know people say these "like cash" but how does one verify they are OK ? With cheques even if they clear, I understand it is not unknown for the money to be debited back if something later is discovered to be dodgy. -
InsCo encouraging Fraud after No Fault Accident? 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Can anyone explain what happened to me? Are the insurance company in on this scam, or is it just someone in their call centre getting backhanders from an ambulance chaser? Either way, it isn’t surprising to me that personal injury claims are going up if this is commonplace as I guess given the circumstances I could have easily faked a whiplash and walked away with some cash to help with the ever increasing insurance costs. -
Nissan Juke - VW dealer 20 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I asked the question, If you don't know what car I have, how do you know it needs a service? I sounded like a scam to me so I spammed their e mail but I continued to get e mails telling me my car is due a service. note, it is NOT due a service I -
Too good to be true? 28 Oct 2014 (Forum)
KEEFYYP HAS IGNORED THE FORUM RULE ABOUT NAMING NAMES (WHICH ABSOLVES US FROM ANY BLAME BECAUSE WE MODERATED THIS THREAD SWIFTLY). ABSOLUTELY OKAY TO WARN OTHER BACKROOMERS AGAINST OBVIOUS SCAMS. NOT OKAY TO NAME THEM UNLESS THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN CONVICTED BY A UK COURT OF LAW. HJ I've located a car on Autotrader. Price is attractive. Seller is a lady who says her job has moved to USA, hence the attractive price and the reason for the handling of the sale via an intermediary. -
HJ- Daily Telegraph, Ealing Parking Fines 5 Jun 2008 (Forum)
For quite a period before he dropped his partner outside the station (stopping for no more than about 10 seconds on each occasion) for her to catch the train, and then this new scam was introduced and he was caught every day for one week. Unfortunately the first fine didn't come through until the following week, so he had no idea that there was a problem until he received the first. -
MOT false. Who do I complain too? 11 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Have been trying to contact him all yesterday and today and no answer. So, in preparing for the possibility I've been scammed I want to know what I should do. It seems to me that the MOT should never have been issued, so should I contact the issuing garage directly? Also, does the garage have to give me the details of the person they did the MOT for? -
Tyres (all makes) 24 Dec 2004 (Forum)
At £125 a shot (even though a lower price than any other outfit for the same tyre) I thought he was trying to scam me, so i went elsewhere and got two Continental sportcontacts 225/55 R16W's. From then for 2 months the car started to tramline from the back end on motorways, making for very scary driving. I went to make sure balancing was fine, and it was, so i went back to Merityre where the bloke took one look, tuttuted and scolded me for not putting P6000's on the car. -
