  • Mercedes Benz E280 CDI Avantgarde W211 - Problems After 'Engine Diagnostic Light' came on.. 16 Jul 2015 (Forum)
The technicians came up with loads of 'faults' including crank and ex back pressure sensors, turbo seals and boost seals leaking, plus gearbox sump gasket leaking. Whilst doing the above, they also changed the V Belt, and the automatic transmission fluid. I ended up paying £1300 for the privilege !!! Three weeks later, on the way back from Portsmouth, the car suffered power loss, and would take ages to accelerate upto 60 mph or more...

  • Ford Mondeo TDCI - 2006 Mondeo TDCI EGR Valve - Help Please!!! 29 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I cleaned out the existing EGR valve in accordance with all of the blogs (but not the mainfold itself) and have had the fuel filter replaced.  I only use Shell V Power fuel, and I have tried the 'italian tune-up' alluded to in a number of conversations.  Recently, I decided to see what happened if I simply unplugged the EGR's electronic connection - and while there is an initial puff of smoke in the initial accelartion thereafter, it basically disappears in its entirety after that - no smoke whatsoever irrespective of how I drive.
  • Treating your car well - fueling 23 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Therefore since buying my new cars this years both toyotas as i'm a jap fan i now own a t180 and a rav4 xtr and they are both fueled with shell and nothing else. My t180 i'm looking after the most since the shell garage right by my work now has V-Power diesel which is suppose to contain cleaning agents for extra lubricity and soot breakdown. Whilst i maybe naive by believing in this i'm willing to pay the extra. On balance i get the same / similar miles to a tank compared to shell extra diesel and its extra cost is barely even noticeable costing no more than a beer each fill up.

  • Supercharged Harley 8 May 2007 (Forum)
We were in no hurry, but the owner experessed surprise that it wouldn't even live with the two 600s or the 750 (less powerful than the Hornet and FZ6 600s) for acceleration. Contrast this; my rev limiter is at 14000RPM, peak power is at 10,500, and during typical overtakes today I'd be surfing along between 6,000 and 8,500 in a nice lively sweetspot before it all goes banzai.
  • Those whom the Gods would destroy... 10 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Four 50% worn Bridgestones with nice white lettering on them. On the road. Satisyingly light and vague power steering as is SOP for all American automobiles. Shocks are stuffed and plenty of body rattles. V-8 burbles well, possibly an intermittent miss on one bank on the idle, maybe number 6. Burnt valve, could be.
  • All T/C Autos aren't made equal.. 16 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Mercedes have been up and down in this regard, but on the whole seem to hold up.  Ford automatics are hit and miss (not the powers*** or the newest t/c which are too new), some models, such as the Mk 1 and 2 Mondeo were notorious in the US where it was sold as the Contour for eating gearboxes.. but then we have JohnF's focus which soldiers on without maintenance!
  • Fiat Qubo 1.3 Multijet 95 Trekking - Engine management warning light 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Whist not built to the same quality as the BMW, the Qubo was big inside, reasonably compact outside, with 95bhp it pulled quite well and cruised comfortable around the maximum speed, whilst returning 54mpg on Shell V-Power diesel. Within 2 months I experienced an engine management warning when starting from cold. The engine appeared to run normally but advice in the handbook was to stop immediately and take the vehicle to the nearest franchised dealer, in this case D Salmon Cars of Colchester.

I can't read this code properly and when I think I have it, I look on the list of Corsa D codes and it doesn't seem to match up to any of them. Can anyone read this code? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-bcQ99OGXA Does anyone know what is wrong with my car, or has anyone with a similar car had similar problems. Any help is greatly appreciated! :)
  • Vauxhall Omega-B (03) 2.2 DTi (Y22DTH) - Omega-B 2.2 DTi Limp Mode & P1220 Error Code 1 Apr 2014 (Forum)
The MAP sensor was replaced around 1500 miles ago with a Bosch OEM part, so I believe it to be good. Replaced the crankshaft speed sensor with a new Bosch OEM part. Fuel is Shell V-Power (roughly half a tank) This is the relevant measuring block info at idle, before the EML comes on: Desired Injection Start = 4.8 CA Actual Injection Start = 1.1 CA Desired Injection Quantity = 7.4 mg/strk Injection Quantity = 5.7mg/strk Pump Speed = 411 RPM Engine Speed = 824RPM Mass Air Flow Sensor = 512mg/strk I don't have any higher reachable engine speed other than idle, because if I lift the rev's (even gradually) the system goes into limp mode.
  • DS 5 - Smoke from DS DS5 Diesel engine after a short run 16 Jan 2018 (Forum)
However it often gets good long runs at speed, the last being 500 miles over Christmas up to Aberdeen and back. I've always filled it up with Shell V-Power Diesel.   Today I went on a short run of about 10 minutes to the supermarket, and back home again after about half an hour. The engine temperature guage didn't even register any heat on either part of the journey.

  • Skoda Yeti - EA189 Emissions Update - my experience 2 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I cover ~20K miles yearly and tend to favour "branded" fuels (Esso / Shell), with the occasional tank of V-Power Nitro+, in an attempt to keep everything clean / ticking over. I'd assumed the worsening fuel economy was a direct consequence of the increased fuel injected to facilitate frequent active regeneration?
  • Any - Suzuki SX4 SCross vs Honda Civic vs Toyota Avensis 23 Feb 2019 (Forum)
      3) Toyota Avensis 2009 VVTI (not the v-matic, hence no electric parking brake) model:-2009 mileage:- 63000 cost:- £3200   Pros:- Lowest cost option Avensis has excellent reliability ratings as per tuv surveys and other ratings 1.8 engine Decent motorway fuel economy (40 mpg?)
  • see if I care..... 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The local muffler shop made up two new tailpipes, so now we have the right noises coming from the right places. V-8 lovers eat your heart out for that one....a rumble which reaches you right down there where you live....a truly religious experience. Pulled down the Holley 4-bbl carb and blew that out, seems fine.
  • 2003 1.8l Mondeo Estate, 144k miles - Ford Mondeo Mk3 Hesitates and Stutters during acce 23 Apr 2015 (Forum)
It could also be a partial blockage in the fuel system, if changing the fuel filter disturbed some crud in the pipes. A tank of Premium unleaded (eg. V-Power) should help that, they contain fuel system cleaners. Or put a dose of fuel system cleaner additive through it.. Possibly the engine management system has not adjusted properly to the various changes.
  • V220 - Apalling service at Halfords Redhill 21 Aug 2013 (Forum)
After an hour and 45 minutes of some kid who had no idea what he was doing, (he asked his collegue 6 or 7 times to come and help as he'd 'tried evey coloured wire but it doesn't power on). my girlfriend was told it was done. However she decided to try the TV just to be on the safe side and it didn't work the kid had cut the power supplt to it. After another 30 minutes, it was working again.
  • Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - GTI test drive 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I expected it to feel over-eager and hard work, but the engine was very smooth and tractable. It actually felt less powerful and eager than the Avensis in these low rev tootlings. Sharpness of the brakes took a lot of getting used to. Ride quality far better than expected. Onto the M5's rutted and washboard effect inside lane, aim to potter along at 60 or so and see what sort of economy it was capable of.
  • Celica GT Import - Emissions Failure 2 May 2007 (Forum)
They suggested that as Jap spec cars are designed for 100RON petrol, and the tank was empty, I try refilling with Shell V - Power, give it a good caning on the dual-carriageway, and take it back to be restested, as the engines don't like our 95RON and they don't run as well. I did this, and on re-test it still failed, but this time the Lambda reading was "very good" but the CO was still at 1.1% at fast idle (Limit is 0.3%) I went back to the specialist and they suggested that the catalyst and lambda sensor might both be working sub-optimaly and combining to give the high CO reading.
