Letter toWelsh Assembly on car restriction plansci 2 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Having seen insulting attempts to brand car drivers as child killers, we then had the so-called ?successful trials? of speed cameras. The claimed successes were branded as ?lying with statistics? by university statisticians and, in one area, Essex, which was included in the ?successful trial? there has already been an increase in fatalities from 86 last year to 111 so far this year, as reported in the Essex Chronicle 16th November. -

New Family Car/SUV advice 28 Mar 2023 (Forum)
I found the boot space lacking when trying to get a couple of large suitcases in. Ideal features: keyless rear/360 cameras heated seats Large screen display/Nav Android auto (nice to have) Digital Dash (nice to have) Hybrid would be good Not Diesel - we only drive shorter distances Automatic lights nice interior/seats I am going round in circles on autotrader looking at: VW Tiguan or Allspace (concerns about DSG gearboxes is it?) -

Pushbike Incident 18 Dec 2015 (Forum)
We had a discussion during which it was confirmed (as my son had said) that the driver was not in the vehicle when he placed his bike on the pavement (was outside, but looking at water running off the guttering), I asked if they checked behind the car prior to reversing they said no and asked if I did, the car has a camera and sensors but they said neither picked it up (light was on, on the bike). The person said they would contribute £30 which I am not happy with and left, it wasn't a pleasant situation with the teenage daughter shouting from the other room. -
Unable to complete s172 5 Mar 2011 (Forum)
We had shared the driving and neither of us could remember who was driving at the time, neither of us recall seeing a speed camera or seeing a flash. My girlfriend suggested we just put her name down and she take the points, but I really didn't want to give false information. I was going to request the photographic evidence, and noticed they had enclosed an FAQ which pointed out they didn't have to provide photographic evidence until the case went to court. -
Peugeot 306 - Heater Matrix Replacement 24 Nov 2010 (Forum)
If possible try a radiator sealent before replacing the matrix as this is a 2 to 3 day job which makes the interior of the car look like a train crash once you've taken out dash, air flow boxes, wiring loom, steering wheel, airbags, windscreen wiper assembly. 2. Use a Haynes manual, digitial camera, enevelopes for the 30 or so screws and fixings, tape for marking unused block connectors on the wiring loom. 3. Take photographs as you disassemble - as many as you can - the envelopes will be necessary for batching the screws by area and writing where they come from - This is essential for re-assembly especially if it could be several days later. -
Accord Dtec Auto - five months in 25 Jan 2010 (Forum)
This is the first Honda i have had,i got an auto because i do quite a few miles 18300 thus far and find manuals too much like hard work in heavy traffic, unlike the auto which is smooth and relaxing, for a big car the Honda has a surprisingly light feel to its handling, the ride is a bit harsh and fidgety if you are looking for a smooth ride this is not it although its far from uncomfortable as the seats are the best i have had in a car. The Accord has a lot of kit ,satnav, bluetooth and reverse camera being the most useful ones day to day so i think its good value compared to others. Fuel economy sits around 40/41mpg and the best i have seen is 46mpg mixed driving. I bought this car to be a reliable workhorse for at least five years and after five months it has been problem free as you would expect,it is not the best looking car out there but who cares it fits our needs as a big functional family car. -
Local colour (a leaf out of oilrag's book) 1 Apr 2009 (Forum)
With another couple of hundred yards looking ready to fall the other way, onto the pavement, at any moment. Just opposite the only speed camera in existence that I know to be a good idea.... there may be others but I don't know any. Yes, I have been taking a small grandchild for her afternoon trot. Up in Kensal Rise, a black Maybach parked outside a restaurant making all other cars look badly tailored and semi-destitute. -
Displaying the VED disc 14 Mar 2009 (Forum)
As I passed a spy van yesterday, the word "tax" appeared in its otherwise covered back window. My car is properly taxed, and I can only think that the camera picked up on the old tax disc still displayed on the windscreen alongside the new disc on the dashboard (fully visible from outside). This has prompted me to check out regulations; the extract below may be of interest. -
Taxed but DVLA say not 21 Aug 2008 (Forum)
When I ring up I get the runaround, passed from one clueless jobsworth to another and I'm at a loss as how to get this resolved. I'm still driving the car, I'd be lost without it, needless to say I'm concerned that the cameras or the police aren't going being very interested in my excuse. -
Are you a "swaggering petrolhead" ? 21 Nov 2007 (Forum)
While fully supporting law enforcement, many concerned citizens have therefore wondered whether the most effective way to reduce accidents is to replace police traffic patrols with speed cameras. However, such questions do not disturb the intellectual certainty of Mr Monbiot. According to his article in Tuesday?s Guardian, critics of official policy, including road safety experts and serving police officers, are nothing more than ? -
Traffic flow vs. speed limit 14 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Does anybody know? I also think that if these limits really do improve flow, it would make sense to use SPECS cameras, as that would do a better job of keeping speeds steady, and if this ultimately makes people's journeys shorter, it's a good thing (though the problem with this is the ridiculous 10% overstate that are legally permitted on speedometers - my Volvo seems to be perfectly calibrated, but generally most cars are not). -
Falsely accused 7 Jan 2004 (Forum)
In the end it was only the fact that I was noisily demanding, in front of a shop full of people, that she call the police to settle the matter that caused her to climb down and accept that 'You might just be telling the truth, so I think I'll let it rest rather than bother the police.' To say I was gob-smacked would be an understatement! I'm still wondering if it was Candid Camera. Cockle -
