  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Common rail crap or what. Views please! 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
He gave me my depoisit back (£100 paid through ebay) and paid for a flight home. Car still mine if I want when it gets fixed. Only 2700 quid to buy in 1st place STill can't work out if he knew all along though. Anyway, had originally believed the mondy to be a great motor. Warranty direct has it for a great score in its reliability rating.
  • Problems with faulty Renault Zoe - what should I do? 20 Nov 2018 (Ask HJ)
I bought a new Renault Zoe 13 months ago. It broke down with charging problems (recovered to the dealer) six months ago and has failed three more times...
  • any - battery degradation, handy app 1 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Been having some starting issues with the Forester for a while, seemed like fuel starvation, changed the fuel pump, spark plugs were due so changed them too, it was cold starting troubles only, once started it would fire up instantly until the next cold start, car running perfectly otherwise. As some of you know  i start work early, a 3.15am start from my house is quite normal so it has to be reliable. Last thing i assumed was battery issues, top line Yuasa roughly 4 years old, it came with a 5 year warranty but blowed if i can find the receipt or remember where it came from, voltmeter in car shows high charge rate from start gradually diminishing to the 13.9v level as the battery reaches full charge.
  • main dealers -by the book? 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Because of my in-the-sticks location, I do most buying by main dealer with manufacturers or approved used warranty & buy on the dog, sight unseen - slightly risky , but minimised as much as poss., given my buying context. Anyway, that's the prologue- what question/query/irritation whatever, is this: Why do main dealers expect you to accept offers way less than book (be it CAP, Glass's , Parkers etc, you name it) for the trade-in?
  • The brake pads in my Nissan Navara only last 10,000 miles - where can I find better quality ones? 30 Jan 2018 (Ask HJ)
I can't find anywhere that sells front brake pads for my Nissan Navara. I would prefer to get better than standard, as they are rubbish and have not lasted...
  • New Family Car/SUV advice 28 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Had a 2017 Peugeot 3008 GT Line for over 3 years and while it was ok and lots to like, there were issues with the timing belt and some electrical problems and I think its time to move on. My budget is about £25k max using my car as a trade in.  I think I will probably stick to the SUV style (though I am tempted by some estates like the a6 Avant, E-class estate), but my missus likes the higher up driving position and I need to consider her needs too as well as having 2 kids.
  • Buying a car. Can you help with the 3Ws and H? 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have driven fairly large 4x4s for the past few years. Hard to justify but partly because I use them as 'skip trucks' to carry endless amounts of junk and I like the driving position. Before that I always had Audi (A4s then an A6) or Mercedes (E320) estates. We've recently moved to the city but, having test-driven several, I can't get used to driving something the size of a Golf or smaller.
  • Hi All - What are your views ? 7 May 2005 (Forum)
But, with extremely narrow margins, I can not offer a warranty inclusive & buyers sign the receipt to this effect (basically a trade sale) Sound fair so far ?? A week ago i sold a car i had used myself for 2-3 weeks & it was a very good example, everything worked & it drove lovely. 6 days after the transaction, buyer emails me with a host of problems ranging from the clock not working to a noise coming from the aircon unit.
  • Why won't KIA continue to repair my Carens diesel's repeated engine management fault? 22 Oct 2010 (Ask HJ)
I have a KIA Carens diesel that has shown the same engine management fault on five occasions. So far this has been rectified four times at no cost under...
  • About to buy a new Volvo? 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
After a lot of negotiation I got mine for £17,100 including Metallic paint (against a list price of £22,013) from a Volvo dealer (a saving of over 22%). If I had been able to use this scheme above as well I would have got a further £1,283 off (7.5%) and £500 for the metallic paint i.e saving a further £1,783. This would have made a £22,000 car £15,317 new, from a dealer with 3 year warranty, free RAC cover, etc.
  • Cars easier to service, DIY declining 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
It was DIY or no car, with all that implied re girls. Some of us ( mates from school) continue to service our cars as our 60s approach. Opinions? I`m particularly interested in how others ( other than professionals mechs )of other ages became interested in DIY, and aquired the ability to service their car and to why DIY owner maintenance ( beyond the warranty) is reducing.
  • Honda CR-V / Citroen C3 1.4 Hdi - Should i sell my Honda CR-V or C3 ? :) 9 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I own a Honda CR-V 2.0 Petrol, Life Style with 36000 km on clock (a lot of nice equimpent like Xeonon, Alcantara seats, etc,tc..) . I keep this car in the garage when is not driven.   This period of life w dont use too much car, so we are driving like 10000-13000 km per year (including both cars). For the CR-V i also have spare Wheelset (17" Alloy Honda + Continental Cross contact Winter tires (only 9000 km passed on them)), RoofRack, Bike + Ski Racks...
  • Nissan Qashqai - Qashqai, loss of power, alarm going off etc 29 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Have said they need it in for a prolonged time to replicate fault, what so they can feel that it feels like the intelligent braking is cutting in when not meant to. I can’t see what use that is if still not registering any fault codes and did not offer me a loan car for that time (under warranty) until I asked for one - they told me in 2 weeks. I’m not prepared to drive a car loosing power out of the blue like that for two weeks!
  • Renault Zoe - Renault Zoe 1 Nov 2012 (Forum)
HJ's piece about the Zoe and its pricing got me thinking. There's a possibility that it could be a useful replacement for Mrs SDAs Yaris Verso auto. The pricing looks good at around £14K and from the Renault website I think that includes 4 years servicing and warranty. BTW the Renault Zoe website is more style than substance, that's why I say 'I think'.
  • Should we change our car's timing belt because of an oil leak? 24 Jan 2017 (Ask HJ)
My wife's 2002 Ford Focus 1.6 was bought second hand just over 2 weeks ago. We noticed a small amount of oil leaking from the engine, and took it to a...
  • Daihatsu Materia (2007 - ) - My dads first 1000 miles 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Opportunity missed there. Its alot bigger than the Yaris inside though. It just feels huge inside, moreso than a car shorter than a Fiesta has any right to. The dashboard is easy to use, everything is where you expect it and as is common with jap cars of old, its childplay to get used to the way the car drives. It is utterly conventional, smooth autobox, chunky controls and I must say, very well screwed together.
  • Mobilo experience 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
After hitching car via tow-hook & using wooden blocks under the rear wheels to 'slip' the car backwards, it was loaded by about... 14:25pm Then taken to the dealership. Meanwhile, Mobilo rang a national car rental firm to arrange a replacement car., who then rang me to confirm status/driving licence details & get CC number.
  • BMW M4 - BMW M4 Seat Issue 4 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Hi, New to the forum. I have a 2019 BMW M4 Competition Pack. I’ve had the car a year and all is well, apart from the double sided sticky tape not holding the M4 grill badge on fully. A few days ago, whilst cleaning the car, I moved the passenger seat forward, firstly using the mechanical back release and then the convenience button on the top of the seat.
  • Any considered - Best car to buy at 3 years old 25 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I'm hoping and planning to semi-retire in 3 to 4 years when I'll be 65. My existing company car will be traded in in 9 months time. I'll have the opportunity to buy my next company car after 3 years and this will be my retirement car to be used 1 day a week for work and the rest for visiting relatives and several drives down to Normandy and a couple to south of France  each year.
  • First car buying advice 22 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I'd rather not go for a cheap motor, but something for £2000-3000 that's in slightly better shape with an AA warranty from a used car dealer. I'm looking at a 2007 1.2 Fiat Grande Punto Active/Dynamic, which sits nicely around that price bracket. Good mileage, only one previous owner. The insurance is manageable too, as the Grande Punto sits in the micromini category (somehow), and I'm 25 now and I only expect my premiums come down in price over the next year.
