  I get the timming belt and water pump changed as they were due. It improved the situation but it is still running slightly rough and the fuel consumption is too high as compared to my previous cars. Could anybody in the forum help me to sort out this problem. Thanks in advance

  2005 2.0(130)tdci Please help, I have a problem with the engine struggling to tickover on some starts, especially when cold but sometimes when warm. The engine starts on the key then runs rough until its revved up, after this it runs not bad. Sometimes it starts ok and runs ok. Driving the car it runs fine and the fuel consumption is acceptible (45mpg by filler/50 on the computer) Ford service suggested that there is some loss of compression on 2 cylinders and that there may be bent conrods/gudgeon pins, there is no vibration while driving even at high revs.

  Would replace chain £150 - £250 and re-time I think I am being had . Could the valve timing be so far out to reduce compression to 60 psi and yet car still start and run okay. fuel economy is 15mpg on lpg which is about right. runs runs equally well on petrol or gas Your comments would be appreciated David

  I have to park my car in the road outside my house and it keeps getting damaged by hit & run drivers. This year I've already had a window smashed by a van (witnessed and number plate taken, but the police weren't interested) and now my mirror's been damaged even though it was folded in - they came so close they even scuffed the front wing.

  I then park it up still running and its still smoking like crazy. and I can leave it running for an hour and its still billowing out smoke even on idle. BUT if I turn it off and leave it half an hour or even less I can start it again and not a whiff of smoke nomatter how long its run for or how hard you rev it!!.

  Hi, i would like to request some advice for my car , it is a 2002 406 2.0 hdi 110, a couple of times in the last 2 weeks when i have come to start it in the morning it turns over fast but the engine doesnt fire then after a few attempt it eventually starts , i`m not sure if it a coincidence but the radio had to put on standby before it would fire , any how it can then be ok for a couple of days then it will struggle again , when it does finally start the idle is a little lumpy similar to if there was a glow plug down and then it will settle , yesterday it did the non start thing and eventually fired up but when it came to turn the car off the engine kept running for about 4 seconds then turned off , ive been out today and there hasnt been any problem , started first time and turned off fine , there are no power issues , when it is running it is perfect , its just the ocassional difficult starting and the run on after the key has been turned off , i am going to try and get it scanned this next week but as the engine light hasnt been on i`m not sure if anything will be found , i hope someone can assist and advise , thanks in advance , simon
• Ford Mondeo Mk5 (1.5 Ecoboost) - Running in Period 5 Jun 2015 (Forum)
   The journey from Lincolnshire to Austria is basically 900 miles of mainly motorway (each way) driving with plenty of hills along the way.  Now I know long runs always do engines good but obviously this kind of driving is not compatible with running the car in. Is it a case of 1000 or 1500 or 2000 clear local miles treating the car with care before the long motorway heavy haul?

  my only train of thought so far is that the timing is advanced which is causing pinking (the ticking sound, although ive never heard a car pink before) and being advanced this may cause the engine run on. when it goes into safe mode, the ignition is retarded and brings it back into range. plus if the timing is out of range perhaps this is why the cam sensor is throwing up a fault. incidentally, if i put my foot on the brake when i turn the engine off i get no run on.

  X18XE-1 VECTRA 1.8SRI T REG 90K Hi to all on Honest John's forum. My car has started to run bad after 7 miles from cold when the engine light comes on, or 3 miles if i stop it for 5 mins then start again then it runs bad again, the pattern is always the same. It sounds like its running on 3 cylinders and its struggles to go up hills.

  Later I went out to take it for a run but it completely refused to start. I check for water and found the Hall effect sensor connector was wet so dried and tried again, no go but a smell of fuel. Flooded I thought. Left it over night and sure enough it started this morning after a bit of hesitation it fired on all 4 and took it a run but it was a bit lumpy and rough.

  - I assume it continues when engine is running but can't hear it above eng noise 2) is it the heater fan or another motor running? 2) is there a true Off position? 3) if not normal, any ideas on problem or cure? The second minor issue is the indicator relay switch clicks of its own accord!

  They have found the Mass Air Flow sensor to be giving a faulty reading. The problem with the car was sometimes when started up it would run under powered for a few miles then cure itself. Sometimes it would run fine from startup, others it would not. It never became underpowered mid journey while the engine was running though it would sometimes if the engine was stopped then started again.

  After spending hours of research i found Watling tyres in tunbridge is able to change my flat run tyres for 50£ for each tyre. I was thinking about to fit general tyres. There few options which I personally consider and looking for expierenced advise. Option 1 Change run flat tyre to normal one.

  hi am looking for a smallish cheap car to run and insure and tax which is reliable. Needs to have room for a pram and maybe up to two dogs. I haven't had  a car for years so have no idea. Budget is around £4,000 I like the Hyundai i20 and the i30 the Toyota Yaris  although these are more than the Hyundai models Kia Ceed  I Will be driving to work and back 20 mins drive away,supermarket trips etc for longer drives we have a bigger car.

  Replaced water pump and timing belt on my daughter's 1.6L ecoboost, 2013 Focus... Timing tools were used, procedures followed. engine starts but only runs on cylinders 3 and 4. P0301 and 0302 and random misfire codes as well as low fuel pressure codes. swapped coils, plugs etc. no change.. new fuel regulator sensor. no change. compression is 150 lbs all cylinders...

   The engine has to be cranked over many times before it starts and in extreamly cold conditions it appears to start and run on three cylinders for 5 to10 seconds before running normally. Apart from the bad starting the car runs fine. I have had the car on a main dealers computor and they found no faults,  but told me it could be a faulty injector.
