  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2001 Rapier - Engine Immobiliser Fault 28 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Have tried changing the battery in the fob and also disconnecting the car battery for a couple of hours - neither of these having any effect. All the electrics still seem to be working fine.Another thing I need to mention is that I bought the car off ebay a few month's back and despite being promised them, I don't have any keycodes, manual, service history, etc.Is there anything I can do to clear this or do I need to take the car into a Peugeot Dealer?
  • Peugeot 405 electrical problem 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The car is a 94 non turbo 1.9 estate and I had modified the silly battery connections and cleaned and vaselined all the connections to battery, starter motor and alternator etc. Any ideas would be most welcome! Thanks in advance. Subject amended to make it more searchable later - PU
  • VW Polo 1996 reg not starting 15 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The mechanic was spot on, he asked me to replace the distributor, which I did and fixed the problem. I know it's not the battery, it's only replaced last few months (I also tried using a battery jump start to rule out that it'snot a battery problem). I have alos serviced the car last month, with the spark plugs replaced. The car runs beautifully yesterday, but it failed to start this morning suddenly?
  • ignition system current starvation 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have heard of a condition called 'current starvation' which I think means that the battery can crank the starter motor, but has not got enough power to concurrently provide sufficient current to the ignition system to produce a strong blue spark. Has anyone heard of this? The battery is now 5 years old and done 18000 miles on the bike.
  • BMW OBC Coding Plug 24 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have recently Retro-fitted an On-Board Computer (OBC) into my vehicle (which does not have Check Control in the Instrument Cluster). The problem i have is after i fitted the OBC i had to disconnect the battery for another job and on reconnection of the battery the OBC now displays "PPPP" which means the OBC doesn't recognise what vehicle it's in. I know this is an error with the Eprom Coding Plug in the back of the OBC (which store's the vehicle's details) which has probably been erased maybe due to a power spike on reconnection of the battery.
  • Toyota Yaris Hybrid - Car refusing to start after holiday 15 May 2025 (Forum)
I vaguely remember a post on here documenting the problem with hybrid cars from Honda and Toyota refusing to start after being left unused for two or three days. But Toyota dealers in particular identifying a flat auxiliary battery, recharging it and sending the customer on their way possibly for the fault to reoccur. The solution i recall is to fit an auxiliary battery with increased capacity but they are reluctant to go down that path unless pressed by the customer in view of the cost to the company.
  • Range Rover - An unreliable Range Rover hybrid? Who knew? 21 Feb 2025 (Forum)
v=Hxogyd_vOds">video about a 2015 Range Rover Sport hybrid with 66,000 miles, which had a problem with its traction battery pack.  The price that Range Rover wanted to replace the battery pack with a new one is somewhat eye-watering.  I guess any 10-year-old hybrid (apart from a Toyota / Lexus) is a risk, but you're never going to win gambling on an older Range Rover hybrid ....
  • Why hybrids are not AWD by default? 24 Aug 2023 (Forum)
My question is, what prevents designers from shifting ICE transaxle to neutral and drive rear wheels only in EV mode? I understand hybrid batteries are under the rear seats but as those batteries are not large as pure EVs, may be it is not too difficult to put a motor there too?
  • Mazda 2 - fuel gauge stuck on full 18 Mar 2023 (Forum)
It's showing full, and the predicted remaining range seems to tie in with that - pretty steady, just varies depending on the weight of my right foot. This is following a very flat battery, for reasons I'm too embarrassed to go into, so various electronic things got lost/reset. I suspect the fuel gauge problem is a consequence of that - needs some sort of recalibration? Or else it's just a broken sensor, and the flat battery is a coincidence.
  • Honda Civic - Car won’t start 3 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I’m in Manchester and it’s been heavy rain all day. Could it be this? The radio, windows etc were working so battery isn’t totally dead. Ignition was turning over too. I don’t know much about cars but know it could be spark plugs or battery. Is there a chance it will start when it dries out? At least until I get whatever the underlying problem fixed
  • Citroen Berlingo 750 LX HDI - Immobiliser help please 19 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Bought a 2011 citroen berlingo van 7 yrs ago and recently battery would not hold charge. Took it to garage for new one to be fitted now it wont start. Apparently disconnecting the battery can sometimes cause the immobiliser which I did not even know existed to kick in.

  • 306 - alternator 17-20v 24 Mar 2014 (Forum)
this maybe a silly question but i would rather be sure before buying another alternator. i went to start my car today and it struggled, i tested the battery with multimeter and the battery was 14 v at rest which was odd, i then started the car and it was charging at 17-20v. my first thought is the voltage regulator in alternator.. is this the only thing it can be?
  • Ford Focus: Remote Locking Doesn't Work. What Now? 2 Feb 2013 (Ask HJ)
My Ford Focus 2003 remote will lock car but will not unlock car, key in lock works OK. Do you think it's the remote battery?
  • Do you own a Hybrid? 19 Apr 2012 (Forum)
The model that seems best for me is the Toyota Prius but also Honda have a couple of suitable models. If anyone has some experience of a hybrid and has some advice or warnings about batteries, spares and servicing costs I'd be grateful for a response? Must be honest the replacement cost and life of the batteries is what bothers me most. Thanks.

  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 03 1.8 key fob programming 2 Aug 2011 (Forum)
My remote key fob suddenly stopped locking the doors, the light on the fob still worked so the battery should have been fine. I changed the battery anyway but still can't get it to lock the doors. I have searched on the site and found a solution you gave for a 98 Avensis, but that doesn't seem to work for me.
