  • Nissan Qashqai (2007 - ) - Forum Members Views 27 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Being rather disillusioned with my 2007 Honda CRV (Sport) which has quietly been driving me bonkers, I have been looking at various SUV type vehicles to get some idea of what I could replace it with. Although I have had Honda CRV's since 1997, (four automatics) I get the impression with my current CRV that it is in charge of me, rather than the other way round! Having said that, I must admit the drive is very smooth and a great improvement on previous models.
  • Mitsubishi Outlander - Moving to Switzerland - Mitsubishi Outlander CVT 22 Oct 2012 (Forum)
So, we need: - 4 x4 - spacious / family sized (boot on Skoda Yeti too small, for example) - automatic - safe (NCAP 4 star min, but ideally 5) - new / up to 2 years old We'll mainly be doing short journies and, whilst I've enjoyed the torque of my current diesel auto, I don't think this will be a wise choice for the kind of driving we'll be doing in CH.
  • Hyundai Santa Fe - Chances in small claims court 12 May 2012 (Forum)
They have said the gearbox will need to be replaced and this will cost £2850 inc. Is this something I could take under the consumers rights act as I am sure a automatic gearbox should last at least 4 times the amount of miles I have done
  • mini roundabout rules 23 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I know its a bit give and take sometimes but I find in the above scenario as soon as i let one car in a string of them who all want to go north to west automatically presume its their right of way.   Its as if they believe that you must give way to someone turning right.   I'm not an impatient driver, or aggressive.  I would just like to know if there is a fixed rule.
  • MkII DCi - Scenic - Parking brake fault after pads changed! 20 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Parking brake functioning perfectly, as always. Will hold fine on a hill, will auto-release etc, and apply automatically when engine turned off The garage took the car to main dealer, who charged £55 to hook it up to attempt to clear the indication, which they were unable to do!  Their diagnostics suggested some kind of "voltage issue", and didn't know where to go next.

  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2005) 1.2 SXI - EML on and loosing power! HELP PLEASE? 30 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The car no longer blows white smoke but still does not drive correctly and the engine managament light still comes on. I can't take it on the motorway as it just automatically goes into limp home mode. I have since had various other parts replaced and checked :- Engine Loom, Inlet manifold, injectors, crank sensor, fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel tank, airflow meter, throttle body and the throttle pedal.
  • Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - 00 2.0 Cold Start Fast Idle Problem 4 Dec 2010 (Forum)
X Reg 2.0 Honda Accord Executive SE (Auto) 64K Miles On a Cold start it fast idles at just over 1000RPM (which i gather would be normal to do with an automatic choke) After about 5 mins driving, once car warms up a bit it does the following: - when stationary idle stays at 1000RPM, no matter how long been driven for, while stationary and placed in neutral or park, engine starts to hunt.
  • Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 05 1.6 Batt drains overnight, on random occasions 29 Sep 2010 (Forum)
A friend. let's call him Don, has a Renault Modus petrol automatic. At random, he will come out to it in the morning and find the battery flat or virtually flat; won't turn the starter motor anyway. A jumplead start and it will go, and be fine again for days/weeks.
  • Toyota RAV-4 (1994 - 2000) - 00 2.0 Poor mpg 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi Just taken ownership of an X reg (2000) second generation 2.0 automatic 5-door Toyota RAV4 and I'm concerned about poor mpg, getting in the region of 18mpg. I think the official combined figure for this model is around 30mpg. Example, put in approx 4 gallons (£20) of petrol three days ago when the fuel warning light was on and the fuel warning light is on again after about 70 miles.
  • Honda CR-V (1997 - 2002) - My first CRV keeps coming back to haunt me! 9 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Although since November, 1997, when I bought the first CRV in Passion Orange ( for once both my wife and I agreed on the colour), I have had each of the later models and currently have a CRVIII (Petrol ES Automatic), my original CRV keeps turning up in various local car parks to haunt me! I live in the Nailsea\Clevedon area and it seems that every few months my old CRV turns up. Some time ago it was in my local car park and I was fondly looking over it, when a very presentable young lady returned to claim it!
  • Mercedes Benz - C220 - My new motor won't be a Merc ! 23 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I had the pleasure to have an early C220 CDI, [5th merc, and there will no 6th] at last the car gave in and died it was a long and chronic illness, just a few of the conditions of the german disease, more new tyres than all my previous cars, heating packed up [plastic parts inside broke], ventilar packed up, nav system never ever worker properly, had enoug on 2 cd in the car, during the second dics playing it was hot enough to fry eggs, door rubbers came out at wil, roof rail covers detached and were attached a least twice a year, front spring failed mot, rear wheel axel is close to failure, and now the automatic gearbox has packed in and the care does't even start anymor During all these wondersful events, MG gave zero support or took part of the cost on their account, a dealer I do know better said off the record this was a series that never should have been sold as the quality was 100% sheisse [cost savings under Herrn Schremp] So I have decided, I do like the new E class and would like to buy one, but as matter of principle will not let MB get their hands on my hard earned cash, the E seems to be a good car, but the last years was not a pleasure, so I am now visiting other showrooms, rdam SLT
  • Diesel engine destroying itself? 6 Jun 2009 (Forum)
.;) Now i ruminated over this for a while as you do and tried to work out the best way to stop this occurring once a diesel engine has started to consume itself, i have a theory which would require nerves of steel and would probably be impossible in an automatic. Before i make meself look a bigger fool than usual does anyone else have any ideas?
  • Adaptive cruise control 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
or English - roads. But how about the recent innovation of the ?adaptive? cruise control, intended to maintain an automatic safe separation from the vehicle in front? Too recent, perhaps, to be generally familiar; I?ve not tried one yet, but there must be some here who have. Hasn?t stopped me thinking about them, though, and I wonder if anyone here shares my misgivings, or has practical experience that shows I have nothing to worry about.

  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.8 LPG fuel problem 7 Oct 2008 (Forum)
It doesn't usually cut out completely, but the engine struggles until either the petrol kicks in automatically or I switch it manually. It doesn't happen all the time, but usually it's when the engine has just been started from cold. Sometimes after this happens I switch to petrol then back to gas again and the same thing occurs after a few minutes.
  • Learning to drive manual transmission--Question 5 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hey, y'all: Here's a story that might make you cringe: One day when I was seventeen and had recently got my driving licence, my dear father decided he was going to take me out in his car and teach me to drive a manual transmission. (I had taken all my behind-the-wheel training on automatic cars, so this was entirely new to me) So, we hopped in his '76 AMC Hornet station wagon and headed out on an empty frontage road in Minnesota. Once there we switched seats and I *tried* to learn this.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 (auto) diesel misfiring 16 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Its an '02 automatic diesel with over 100,000 miles on the clock I have had problems from new, where the engine occasionally misfired and then stalled when approaching a junction. Worse when cold. Engine is very rattly at about 1700 - 2000 revs and sounds like a taxi.
  • New car options - your thoughts - Merc vs Audi etc 21 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Here are the factors I will be taking in to account when the times comes [if it ever does]:- I commute 120 miles per day so on average do 24k miles per year and that's before business miles are added - approx another 3-4k per year Would prefer a 'prestige' marque Automatic is a desirable option to have for me - spent too many years stick shifting now and want an easier option Not sure on the diesel vs. petrol thing - if I were to go the leasing route I'm not bothered as if it goes wrong it's their problem.

Chap selling a 2006 AUDI A4 AVANT S LINE QUATTRO 3.0TDI AUTOMATIC for less than £13k. I answered ("email the seller") his AutoTrader ad and he has replied that he's in Austria (business went bust) and can't get any price for a r-h drive car from local dealers.
