• Real world MPG 11 Jul 2004 (Forum)
  Hiya real world mpg what do people get. My car 318i BMW auto with a/c mixed use 30 mpg, in town 20-22mpg (very heavy traffic stop start), motorway 75mph 37mpg..I suppoose the auto with a/c increases consumption by 10-15% although.

  I know it's incorrect and unfair to make derogatory generalisations about white van & BMW drivers etc., but I have noticed a significant percentage of those who have managed to annoy me were sporting a CSMA (civil service motoring association) logo in the rear window. Perhaps you have experienced this, or similar?

  I seem to remember that a few years ago it was mentioned that the latest car type engine oils, SJ etc, were not suitable for use with modern motorcycles. I want oil suitable for a current R series BMW motorcycle which is air and oil cooled. Any comments?

  It seems they are no longer interested in Ford/Vauxhall tinware, but are belting around in old Merc 190`s and old E 30 BMW`s. Is it any wonder that BeeM drivers (and soon Mercs) are getting such a bad reputation ????

  Just seen the Porsche Cayenne in the flesh for the first time and I can honestly say that it is nothing like what you see in the photos....it's even uglier. For all those who think that BMW have lost the plot, Porsche really are leading the way. Is there an uglier car out there than the Cayenne?

  Is there a reason for this other than terroism? They have a wide selection of cars, Fords, Vauxhalls, BMWs, Subaru. Was surprised to see a 330d Touring as an undercover car though.

  When I fully depress the clutch pedal (of my '92 BMW 518, hydraulic clutch) I get a buzz like vibration which can be heard (slightly) and felt through the pedal. The clutch doesn't slip and there are no gear selection problems. Can anyone tell me if this indicates a problem around the corner?

  I have a BMW 520SEi 1994 Auto that has recently started to suffer rom intermitent dash instruments failure with all or some failing at any time and starting to work with no pattern. I have checked all cvonnections to all instruments and changed all fuses with o luck Anyone can help?

  Do heat reflective or 'climate control' coated windscreens really make a significant difference to the interior of a car? BMW claim the interior temperature would be at least 10 degrees lower than outside, and the steering wheel and seats (black leather) won't get so hot. Is this option worth the money? (about £200).

  Overall a good day out, the deal was that we saved over £500, vis a vis the UK price, on my colleagues small stinky cigarillos! The car was a suprise, for a £45 hire charge but I wouldn't spend my own money on a BMW 1 series!

  And then my entire dash stops lighting up and thats it - no more diy bulb replacements and it goes to a bmw dealer. £152 later, they say 10 wires had chafed in the boot - they'd replaced them and the popped bulbs, and all was working fine EXCEPT I need a heater control panel - which is £360 for the part.

  He has a maximum of £2,000 to spend, and whittling through his list of what he wants from a car, he has shortlisted the Audi 80 2.0E, in either 8 valve or 16 valve guise, or a BMW 3-series. Looking at Autotrader I was surprised to see you can get an E36 3-series for under £2k these days, but personally think the Audi is the better bet at this age and mileage (K/L-plate with around 100k on the clock).

  I have previously described the boss's BMW X5 as a ridiculous machine but I got a chance to have an extended ride in the front passenger seat when we did a round trip from Scotch Corner to Reading. It's a 3 litre sport automatic with black rear windows and the optional monster wheels.

  So, after much deliberation at the end of last year I ended up replacing my company BMW 530d with?another BMW 530d. I?d actually inherited the first car when I changed jobs from someone who used the opportunity to ?upgrade? to an Audi Q7, though quite why he considered a change from the finest handling mid size saloon on the planet to a boat on wheels to be an upgrade is something I can only speculate on.
