  • VW Polo - VW Polo 1998 - Cold weather battery problems 24 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Anyway, within 5 minutes, the car stopped completely and had to call the rescue team. He recharged the battery and we drove off and he tested it again and said it was fine. I am now worried to drive again and worried it may stop. The rescue guy told me to warm up the engine for 30 minutes before driving off.
  • mondeo tdci 2003 - bad starter 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
i had a cold start problem , read a lot of forum information on these mondeo problems , the car ran fine after first start of the day, it was fast smooth and no flashing heater plug light, no missfire or any other symptoms, new battery fitted last year and starter was spinning over no problem. changed cam sensor , cleaned out egr valve , checked turbo actuator ,no different on cold starting, i accidentally dicoverd the live battery terminal was getting very hot, it wasnt loose where it was crimped into the connector, i took out the battery , and solderd around the cable at the joint , hey presto starts first time now, so i now know that although my starter would turn the motor over for 20 mins or so when cold,it is not like the old days of diesal motors firing up on the slightest of turns on the starter, i hope this imformation might save someone the headache i had for weeks, voltage is critical with these motors ,check your connections ,
  • vauxhall astravan 2003 1.7dt - Starts, but no power steering. 17 Mar 2013 (Forum)
It then settled down and i drove the 25 miles home ok. When i arrived i turned off and tried again all ok. I had a spare battery so changed it over and it started ok, when i tried to steer it, i had no power steering again and also the battery light came on. I haven't had time to investigate further but wondering if any one out there has any ideas.Thanks.
  • Ford C-Max 2005 2.0 TDCI Ghia - No power to Radio/Interior Lights/rear doors 16 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Is it easy to disconect the sounder to prove this is the cause (plug, device or fuse) I am woundering if it is something different as the car has always had a issue with draining the battery i a few days and just recently the car was not used for a few weeks and just ram every other day to recharge the battery, each time the battery was low as it was hard to start. Could the low voltage have damaged a relay or some other component as i have checked all the fuses and none of these are blown.
  • skoda superb - VAG Skoda new keys. 23 Nov 2012 (Forum)
No problem for 6 years until the fob plays up and I cannot get into the car. Not only due to fob or battery being defunct but the physical key will not open the door lock, and will only operate the ignition lock. Having replaced the battery and back to normal I am now aware that this problem may recur.
  • Peugeot 306 cabriolet 2.0 2000 - Yet more immobiliser/central locking problems! 1 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I recently experienced a completely flat battery after not using the car for 2 weeks.  The car jump started instantly and was driven for around 20 miles to charge up the battery.  All was fine.  I then did a 400 mile round trip to Stafford to collect and fit a recently purchased hard top.
  • Ford Focus Saloon 1.8 TDCI - Ford Focus Heater vent blowing upon acceleration 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
It only seems to kick in around 2000 revs, even then it depends on torque. Its almost as if it happens when the turbo kicks in. Presuming it was related to battery I topped up the original battery and charged and put it back I thought it may be realted to the required ampage etc.But Still the same. Its now driving me mad - motorway driving is a nightmare!
  • Peugeot 307 SW S HDi 110 - Battery going flat due to cooling fan running on? 5 Jul 2011 (Forum)
My car battery was flat a couple of mornings ago. On further investigation it seems that this was caused by the cooling fan running on and then not switching off over night. A diagnostic test at Kwik Fit has identified an intermittent fault on a 'coil' adjacent to the radiator cooling fan.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel - Astra G dead, 1.7 DTI, intermittent, no key clicks 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
This car refused to start in the recent cold weather so I replaced the original 2001 battery, no brainer from the sofa. However it continued its recalcitrant behaviour into the warmer weather even with the new battery. Mortified after spending £60 I fiddled around with this and that and it seems ok now, after a few days.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 2005 2.0 Towbar Wiring - access to battery 21 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The wiring kit was easy up until the part where the instructions said to route a wire to the front of the car and connect it to the battery. I managed to get the wire as far as the front passenger footwell using the existing channel located on the n/s under the plastic floor trim, but I cannot find anyway to get from the footwell into the engine compartment.

  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2001 Rapier - Engine Immobiliser Fault 28 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Have tried changing the battery in the fob and also disconnecting the car battery for a couple of hours - neither of these having any effect. All the electrics still seem to be working fine.Another thing I need to mention is that I bought the car off ebay a few month's back and despite being promised them, I don't have any keycodes, manual, service history, etc.Is there anything I can do to clear this or do I need to take the car into a Peugeot Dealer?
  • Peugeot 405 electrical problem 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The car is a 94 non turbo 1.9 estate and I had modified the silly battery connections and cleaned and vaselined all the connections to battery, starter motor and alternator etc. Any ideas would be most welcome! Thanks in advance. Subject amended to make it more searchable later - PU
  • VW Polo 1996 reg not starting 15 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The mechanic was spot on, he asked me to replace the distributor, which I did and fixed the problem. I know it's not the battery, it's only replaced last few months (I also tried using a battery jump start to rule out that it'snot a battery problem). I have alos serviced the car last month, with the spark plugs replaced. The car runs beautifully yesterday, but it failed to start this morning suddenly?
  • ignition system current starvation 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have heard of a condition called 'current starvation' which I think means that the battery can crank the starter motor, but has not got enough power to concurrently provide sufficient current to the ignition system to produce a strong blue spark. Has anyone heard of this? The battery is now 5 years old and done 18000 miles on the bike.
  • BMW OBC Coding Plug 24 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have recently Retro-fitted an On-Board Computer (OBC) into my vehicle (which does not have Check Control in the Instrument Cluster). The problem i have is after i fitted the OBC i had to disconnect the battery for another job and on reconnection of the battery the OBC now displays "PPPP" which means the OBC doesn't recognise what vehicle it's in. I know this is an error with the Eprom Coding Plug in the back of the OBC (which store's the vehicle's details) which has probably been erased maybe due to a power spike on reconnection of the battery.
  • Toyota Yaris Hybrid - Car refusing to start after holiday 15 May 2025 (Forum)
I vaguely remember a post on here documenting the problem with hybrid cars from Honda and Toyota refusing to start after being left unused for two or three days. But Toyota dealers in particular identifying a flat auxiliary battery, recharging it and sending the customer on their way possibly for the fault to reoccur. The solution i recall is to fit an auxiliary battery with increased capacity but they are reluctant to go down that path unless pressed by the customer in view of the cost to the company.
  • Range Rover - An unreliable Range Rover hybrid? Who knew? 21 Feb 2025 (Forum)
v=Hxogyd_vOds">video about a 2015 Range Rover Sport hybrid with 66,000 miles, which had a problem with its traction battery pack.  The price that Range Rover wanted to replace the battery pack with a new one is somewhat eye-watering.  I guess any 10-year-old hybrid (apart from a Toyota / Lexus) is a risk, but you're never going to win gambling on an older Range Rover hybrid ....
  • Why hybrids are not AWD by default? 24 Aug 2023 (Forum)
My question is, what prevents designers from shifting ICE transaxle to neutral and drive rear wheels only in EV mode? I understand hybrid batteries are under the rear seats but as those batteries are not large as pure EVs, may be it is not too difficult to put a motor there too?
  • Mazda 2 - fuel gauge stuck on full 18 Mar 2023 (Forum)
It's showing full, and the predicted remaining range seems to tie in with that - pretty steady, just varies depending on the weight of my right foot. This is following a very flat battery, for reasons I'm too embarrassed to go into, so various electronic things got lost/reset. I suspect the fuel gauge problem is a consequence of that - needs some sort of recalibration? Or else it's just a broken sensor, and the flat battery is a coincidence.
