Seat leon - Large and unexpected repair cost 8 May 2018 (Forum)
Hi all, wondering if any car savvy people could lend me some advice on my particular issue. Basically, I purchased an automatic seat leon from a second hand dealership back in Nov 2016. I was very pleased with it and have been for the past 18 months. Until two weeks ago, where completely out of the blue with no warning, the car lost gears 2,4,6 and reverse. -
Toyota hybrid, Seat Leon, Ford Focus - Used car recommendation 30 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I am looking for a reliable, decent to drive and ideally with an mpg of around 40 or more 2016-2017 petrol automatic to have for the next 3-5 years. My budget is about £15000. I am not interested in the way it looks very much, but I do care about reliability, decent comfort inside and to be nice enough to drive especially around town where I do most of my driving. -
What fuel next 6 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I have narrowed it down to the Skoda Octavia Estate as it supports my height and has good room all round. My dilemma is I want a automatic next as the stop start weekly driving is killing my clutch foot. Do I pick a 1.5 tsi petrol DSG or a 1.6 or 2.0 tsi DSG, not sure as the car size says diesel but my driving warrants a petrol. I don’t think I am getting the benefits of the diesel as my highest mpg during the week is 43mpg. -
Review: Nextbase 512G dash camera 15 May 2017 (Forum)
What this means is that you have to remove the unit worth the sucksion holder which is a joke as the whole thing then needs doing up and poisoning again, something you just won't do. It has automatic start that must assume you leave the unit on your car all the time. All this will do is Mark your car as a target for breaking into to steal the device. Ridiculous! Has none even thought how this is supposed to be used. -
First timer - nissan 25 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Similar type of differences are seen on primera versus avensis/mazda6 too. Looking for something automatic and petrol between 1.6 and 2.0litre that'll be half decent for city driving, plus useful on all the nsl's and DC's near Brighton, whilst also being suitable for drives to the likes of Windsor / Kent and occasional drives to Dorset and Manchester without being too painful when filling up. -

I've only got mpg figures for one tankful on mine but it did 66.7 (but this was over Dec/Jan which is pretty good considering how cold it's been). Also for contrast, early last year, I helped my daughter buy a brand new i10 Premium Automatic (with the 1.2 Kappa engine). She gets a pathetic 38 mpg (although she does drive faster than I do). From the above comparison, IMO, Suzuki's overall approach to making small cars is far superior to Kia/Hyundai's. -
VW Polo - PCP-to renew or not to renew? 18 Jan 2017 (Forum)
in 2014 he got free insurance for a full year, a couple of free services and a very good trade in ( £1500!) for an old Rover that's book price was only around £600. Wow! His current Polo-an automatic- has only done around 14,000 miles and is (currently!) trouble free. There are a few nasty mini parking scrapes and blemishes on the bodywork, but the car is washed regularly and clean inside(non smoker). -
Other - Big+Tall guy - car recommendations please 1 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm 6ft 2, 500lbs with wide hips and a big behind - I'm looking to buy a car and would like some recommendations from those who may be big or tall or ideally both, on what cars they have found comfortable to drive? I don't mind whether it's manual or automatic, and I''ll be buying an old 2nd hand (max £2.5K budget) if that helps narrow things down. I'm looking for something that primarily accommodates me - I won't normally have passengers and if so, they'll have to fit themselves around me. -
Nissan Micra Auto 1.4 SE 2002 K11 Facelift - Over reving / Struggling to change great 28 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Hi all, New to this site, so I appologise in advanced if I am asking something that not the norm on here. I have a automatic 2002 K11 Facelift 1.4 SE. It's done less that 30k and is in pukka condition. A few months ago I noticed that the car would take a little longer to jump in to the next gear and has become a bit less responsive and nippy. -
Ford Mondeo - Idling / Revving Issues 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
If I pull up stuck in traffic, revs can fly up to 3000+ for a couple of seconds before dropping to about 1.2k. Also, I seem to have inherited automatic cruise control. I can be driving along at 40mph... take my foot of the pedal and it continues at that speed. Sometimes the revs even pick up and the car starts accelerating (quite dangerous I guess!) -
Hyundai Santa Fe - Hyundai Santa Fe autobox failure 11 Aug 2015 (Forum)
My Santa Fe 2007 2.2 diesel automatic, 70k miles broke down this weekend with what seems like a transmission failure. Towed to the local Hyundai dealer, and they have told me that I need a full new autobox, priced £5000 all in! -
Which car to go for? 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
- budget: £18-21k - prefer small SUV/crossover type - got used to luxury and high seating of XC90 (but not fuel efficiency!) - automatic - prefer petrol but open to diesel - 6-8k miles per year - main qualities: comfort, safety, style - max age for used: two years We have so far considered Qashqai (£22k for 1.2 petrol new but unsure of resale value and second hand models scarce); Mazda CX-5 (looks good but costly new); CR-V (lots of kit for the price but costly new and poor reviews); RR Evoque (love the looks but costly even used and not a lot of kit for money); and Kia Sportage (looks good but not the best comfort levels or drive quality). -
BMW 335i Coupe 2010 with 6 gear Steptronic transmi - Dangerous problem - possible auto-transmission 17 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Have you heard of this before with the Steptronic box. The BMW dealer has no ideas. Should I contact an automatic transmission specialist near Manchester? -
Dogma 23 Mar 2015 (Forum)
"STEEP HILLS: When descending steep hills in DRIVE, the vehicle will tend to drop into its highest ratio. This will result in excessive use of the brakes. Although brakes on automatics are larger than on their manual counterparts, ‘brake fade’ can still create a problem but manually locking a low ratio provides compression braking to enhance flexibility and braking control, particularly when towing a trailer/caravan. -
Volvo V60 - Heater failure. Warranty 12 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I left the dealership wondering 1. Surely any electrical failure automatically needs a diagnostic check for other, linked, faults? 2. What had they done in the hour with the car 3. Why would a fan (electric motor) fail after only 3 years (on a Volvo!) -
Nissan Qashqai, Honda HRV, or... 2 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I have a long commute through built-up areas , and through narrow country lanes where nifty overtaking comes in handy. I need to change to an automatic from my current basic manual Honda Civic as I have developed stiffness and a restricted range of movement in my hips. I also have back and wrist problems with neck stiffness, difficulty twisting, and sore wrists. -
Smart ForFour - Economic to repair or cut my losses 19 Sep 2014 (Forum)
My current tin-can is a 54 Smart ForFour with a healthy 165k on the clock but it's now starting to wear out some more expensive items with the latest being the need for a new clutch (this for the semi-automatic gearbox so far from cheap) and some wheel bearings. I'd hoped to have found an internet "keep-or-scrap" calculator but sady nothing has come up so I'm just after thoughts on when it's best to just walk away. -
Used Car MArket - current state ? 15 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Currently looking to buy another car, having finally got rid of my Subaru Legacy that had a big engine fault.. I am looking for another large, automatic estate car, preferably Jap/Korean, dont want to spend a fortune, maybe £5k max. Toyota Avensis/Honda accord type vehicle. Used market seems terrible at the moment..... If you want to spend £12-15K there are plenty of just-off-fleet vehicles. -
Audi A4 TDI Quattro DSG - Hill Starts in an Auto - what am I doing wrong? 22 Oct 2013 (Forum)
It's an A4 177 TDi quattro with DSG, and as I started to move off when the traffic allowed, as i switched my right foot from brake to accelarator you could hear a small crunch from the automatic gearbox. I've never noticed this before, but having said that I don't recall having to do any "steep" type hillstarts since I purchased the car 6 months ago. I reverted to the manual method of engaging the EPD and then then transferring to the power when I needed to move again, this still caused a few crunching noises. -
BMW 7 Series - BMW E65 730d - Door won't close - Door lock help 17 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I don't mind losing soft close if I can save a tonne of money. "For vehicles with Comfort access and Soft-Close-Automatic doors S322A=Yes S323A=Yes 06 Lock, complete, front right SCA/PA 1 01/2003 51217202120 only in conjunction with Pos. 7" This is the part. Any idea if I can downgrade to 51217202130 instead, i.e. use the 'door complete lock with comfort access but without soft close' instead?
