  • Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - HPi Check clear - NOT! 22 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I came home then did my own HPI check on the Vehicle only to find out that there in 'outstanding Finance agreement found'? Will I be able to get my £200 deposit back as I believe this to be false advertising? I have printed the advert off as evidence of the wording of the advert, or do you think I will have to go to court to get my money back which I will no problem?
  • Focus at a Ford dealer - Possible to haggle? 5 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I have seen a W reg Focus at a proper Ford dealer, its £2000 and has 57,000 miles, 12 monts MOT, 6 months warranty and comprehensive health check. It seems ideal but £2k is a little out of my budget unless I can get a good finance deal (I was going to buy 50% cash and 50% credit card but at £2k I would be skint). Therefore I would need to get this car down to around £1700, would I be laughed at by making this sort of offer?
  • DVLA have no record of my car!!! 13 Dec 2008 (Forum)
    The reminder never came so i phoned the DVLA and they have no record of the car, i tried to HPI the car and they also have no record. I find this strange as i have finance outstanding on the car. Has anyone else ever had any problems like this?? Im not sure what to do next {made non make/model descriptive as this this question could relate to any vehicle}
  • November New Car Registrations down 36.8% 6 Dec 2008 (Forum)

  • Halifax Bank of Scotland sales at BCA 24 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi guys, Can anyone shed any light on the probable source of cars in HBOS sales at BCA? Are they ex-lease properly maintained stuff? Or bodged nasty finance reposessions? Spotted a 5 year old 'prestige' vehicle with no previous owners and 6 figure mileage in an upcoming sale, wondering what its history might have been - I'm sorely tempted if it was simply a lease car they had for 5 years etc etc.
  • New daihatsu charade 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
so - anyone know the cheapest place to buy a new or nearly new daihatsu charade. not bothered about spec or the gear box type. no part ex - total one of cash payment no finance rubbish. so - whos doing the best deals on them?
  • New slant on road safety 18 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My understanding from various reports is that in future money gathered from camera fines will be used to finance other types of safety gadgets, like flashing lights, yet more road signs etc. Some of these proposals might make good sense and the idea of completely rehashing speed limits, with more 20 mph zones could be advantageous as long as the new limits are not all lower.
  • Re-testing following a disqualification 5 Dec 2005 (Forum)
All bans, not just drink-driving, or speeding and make it an extended test, not just the simple 'beginners' version. The scheme would be self financing from the test fees and so would not cost Her Majesty's Government a bean. What do you think, any support, or would it be just another niggling motoring restriction?
  • HPi checking a car 16 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I'm going to need to do an HPi check on a car tonight, I'd like to check the mileage as best as possible, previous insurance write-offs, finance etc. but I'm also very tight and don't want to pay HPi £38 for the privelege and I'm sure I've heard of them even cheaper thab the £20 jobbie from Car Watch UK. Anyone got any recommendations? Also, does anyone know if the Car Watch UK one is as good as the HPi check for £38?
  • Wide Boys 15 Aug 2005 (Forum)
How many of you have come accross them when buying a car? Treated you as if you were born yesterday, offered you insulting trade-ins, rip off finance, trying to pass off glaring faults as nothing etc etc... When I was buying my last car, one garage wouldn't give me a trade-in figure until I agreed to have the car they wanted to sell me. Walking away was a no brainer!
  • Magellan Roadmate 700 9 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I've read a couple of reviews and this one seems to come out consistently good. Ideally, I'd like to buy it with 0% finance and wondered if anyone knew of any retailers (online or offline)that offer this kind of deal? It would only need to cover the UK and ideally, also be able to pick up any known traffic problems so that we can avoid or take a detour - this would also come in handy on the daily commute too.
  • Buying new car from a broker 6 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Went for a test drive yesterday and had the standard delaying tactics from the young salesman when trying to get a quote. Said very little discount available as all Ford incentives were currently on finance, which we don't want. Did the usual pretence of going to see the manager to see if he could get any more discount - do they really think we believe any of that? Anyway, have quote for £2,500 less from broker (the one that's not narrow and slow) but just wanted a bit of reassurance!
  • car salesman turned magician 28 Jan 2004 (Forum)
This trick was performed by means of various useless insurances and was before he moved in with the coup de grace, his highly inflated finance figures. We ended up with a cost for a 3 year old base Polo that was higher than the What Car on the road price for a brand new Seat Arosa. Of course I cannot reveal the name of the dealership, but here in the North East the boss of the company is well known for his religious devotion.
  • HPI checks 18 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I was going through the HPI checks website . According to their info , they check whether the car is a write off/nicked/has outstanding finance/total losses/outstanding insurance interests/national mileage register info/value of car. for the grand figure of £37.95 Going through a similiar servive called carchecks which checks stolen/written off / number plate change/first registration/colour change/chassis /vin/engine numbers/number of previous owners/date of last keeper change/imported for £15 only Wondering whats the difference apart from the price and how HPI checks manage to get away with it by charging more than double the price of its competitor.
  • Car for grandma to carry junior around? 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Had a look at various cars on HJ's car by car but nothing promising, had thought a about Peaugeots as a local dealer doing 0% finance 3 years no deposit, but seems to have bad reports on 106, 206 and 306, Micra and Civic look promising, anyone got any personal recommendations as I know not all makes of the same car react equally through their working lives.
  • Skoda Favorit 1 Dec 2002 (Forum)
As this job is initially only for a year, I reckon something like this is probably a better bet than stretching the finances to the limit. Any other suggestions for cars to look out for would be appreciated.
  • Deal on new Golf GT Tdi 130 24 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a Golf GT TDi new from my local dealer. they seem unwilling to drop below list price (£16,200 ish, 3 door), but they have offered £4,000 for my 2001/Y Punto 1.2 Elx 8v which has 31,000 miles and patchy service history, plus the Punto is an import so has alledgedly been down-valued. So the offer is £12,200 to change, and they can do the finance at 7.1% APR. Sound like a good deal or has anyone got any suggestions?? Thanks.
  • Cartel? 20 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I'm not expecting to save a shed load of cash on a car with a three month waiting list, but cannot distinguish one dealer from another. Does anyone have any ideas of how to save some cash here, apart from haggling a good finance rate? Thanks, Lee.
  • How are there different power outputs from the same size engine? 30 Dec 2024 (Ask HJ)

  • Vauxhall Crossland - Garage refusing repair under warranty 15 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Stage 2 would be a new oil pump if stage 1 was not to fix the problem and stage 3 would be a new engine, which at this stage they feel we should pay for. As we are on a PCP the car is not ours, it is on finance through Vauxhall finance, which I let Perry’s know. I have emailed Vauxhall financial with all the above information, I have not at this point had a response and my car is still at perrys with advice for me not to drive!
