  • Ford Mondeo - 2001 Mondeo 2.0tddi - various/related problems? 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
That has been replaced and while they took the car out to test it started running lumpy, they got it back to garage and it wouldn't start.  Wouldn't start yesterday, so we towed it home.  After a bit of fiddling about the car we got the car started.
  • Can a third party's insurer write off my car 18 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Being the honest people they are they have now gone back on this and have involved their insurance company. The real fear for us is that we do not want the car to be written off as the value of the repairs will outweigh the value of the car. There are therefore a few questions: 1.If we do not involve our insurance company but allow theirs to inspect the vehicle do they have the power to write off our car?
  • Vauxhall Corsa - Car problems on day of purchase - refund owed? 17 Jul 2015 (Forum)
So I don't think it will cover this :'( the car does currently work now the spark plug is fixed but I'm worried it will happen again and I'll be left with a massive repair bill/unuseable/unsellable car, do you think I have any chance of taking it back to the garage as the fault was clearly there even if they didn't notice and isnt their fault?
  • Skoda Fabia 1.4 16V (2006) - Intermittent cutting out whilst driving - 22 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The car is in good condition otherwise (75000 miles), has been regularly serviced (last service in February). The only (possible) clue is that the car failed to start in January - the repair man couldn't identify the reason behind this, but then found that a slight manipulation of the engine-cover somehow solved the issue(!)
  • bought a car off eBay, have I been a total spanner 14 Apr 2011 (Forum)
OK, I just bought a car off eBay, unseen. I thought, that's fine, it's paid for via Paypal and it it doesn't run then I have some protection. Well, guess what thhe car wasn't road worthy and the dealer wouldn't fix it or give me my money back.
  • Three quick Qs about selling privately 27 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Sorry - I know this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find the thread. Believe it or not, two people are interested in coming to see my car tomorrow. I don't have 'any driver' on the car's insurance policy - the people need to show me they have third party cover to drive other vehicles before they get behind the wheel of my car, don't they?

  • vw polo 1.2 2003 - high co emissions 8 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Hi  my son has a polo 1.2 which has covered just over 69000 miles. It was purchased in May for him to learn to drive in and has only coverd 1274 miles since then. the mot was due so the car was tested and failed the emission test.the mechanic said that the computer showed a possible faulty lambda sensor which he replaced but this has only made the car ok in fast idle test not normal idle.
  • Mazda CX-5 - Has my Dash Cam been installed wrong? 23 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Went out in the car in the rain today and thought I'd check the quality of the recorded video using the Thinkware PC software. The overall video quality is very good so I am happy with that but the top two thirds of the front image is above the area covered by my window wipers so that part of the video is obscured by rain drops...
  • Efficient choice? 8 Oct 2015 (Forum)
a BMW i3 (range extended) might work as the amount I think I'd save (compared to my recently departed 29mpg diesel) would cover the amount I'd have to borrow. I don't need 5 seats but don't want something too small for all the motor way driving. I've trawled through the real MPG to try to find the most efficient cars. but when it comes to hybrids so much depends on the distance travelled between charges etc that it's difficult to work out what mpg I'd actually get.
  • Audi A6 1.8T - Clutch smell but not slipping 10 Jul 2015 (Forum)
I have not noticed the clutch slipping so far, only twice recently when parking on a steep hill had I smelled it. Got car back from garage without the repair as I need to consider if it's still economical to have done. The car now stinks of burnt clutch! Did a road test, 3rd/4th gear. rev up....pulls away nicely,in line with revs.
  • Toyota Auris HSD - Mis-matched tyres 18 Mar 2015 (Forum)
The ABS and VSC will not function correctly if different tires are fitted on the vehicle ." Is this just the car manufacturer covering itsef or should I have reason to be worried?
  • Audi A3 - Insurance Company to pursue me for cost of claim 2 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi There, My wife recently had a minor incident in our car, whereby she was struck by a motorist from behind as they were exiting a roundabout. The key piece of information is that she was travelling to a work event and not her usual place of work. Our policy was for personal and commuting, The insurance company has said that she was not covered as business use was not stipiulated on the policy and she was not travelling to her usual place of work.
  • Ford Focus 1.8 16V petrol Zetec 2000 'W' - Inlet manifold part number 5 Nov 2012 (Forum)
My Ford Focus Zetec 1.8  is suffering with high engine revs when I come to a stop, described in a Ford technical bulletin as 'throttle holdup'. The age of my car is May 2000. This puts it in the age range covered by the bulletin. Having tried many other suggestions, this is currently the most likely cause. The bulletin gives a 'Finis' code for the manifold, which is 1111723, however all manifolds are marked with part numbers such as '988F9424KB, or similar.

  • VW Polo 1.4 16v , 1999 T reg - OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM!!! VW Polo 16v 1.4. 2 Aug 2011 (Forum)

  • Nissan Navara - Nissan Navara Problems Review 18 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I've never been in a garage before so many many times. Last time I was at Nissan (3 weeks ago) they told me if the Navara was not covered by the warranty only the half shafts would cost me about GBP12000, turbo about GBP2000, I did not want to know about the rest.   A SELF RESPECTING CAR MANUFACTURER WOULD NEVER ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!!!!!

  • Nissan Micra (2003 - 2010) - 03 1.2 Windscreen wipers have a mind of their own 10 May 2009 (Forum)
The fault is intermittent but annoying enough to need fixing. The car is a fairly recent purchase and has only covered 6,500m from new and is otherwise fine. Electrical problems are not my strong suit so I would much appreciate any advice, guidance or a pointer in the right direction.
