  • Honda Accord 30 Jul 2002 (Forum)
It seems to be mechanically fine too, with a new WOF (NZ for MOT). For $700 (about 210 quid they can't go far wrong) and get this for insurance - $500 for 4 young drivers - one of whom is 17! Makes my UK insurance renewal make me cry. (You may remember me asking about that a while back.) So now in the flat it is an Accord and a Skyline. Any other suggestions now I'm looking?
  • Road rage - advice please 15 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Perhaps in future some old lad, or a young woman will suffer at his hands. I am wondering what I can do that is constructive. I have a mind to report the driver to the local police given that I have the registration and a description of the car and the driver (he was about 30, shaven headed, an unshaven face, and a lean build i.e. football thug lookalike).
  • SatNavs in Africa 21 Sep 2010 (Forum)
On TV yesterday there was a programme called “My Family's Crazy Gap Year” recording the progress of a couple of young people taking their three children on a “4x4 driving adventure in Africa”.  They bought a 13 years old Land Cruiser, “...with a lot of work required”, part of which was done, and set off.
  • Citroen C3 - Car hit in residents private car park 3 Jun 2010 (Forum)
My car was parked in our private car park (in my allocated space outside my flat).  The car park is owned by the people who own the flats. A young driver (who usually races around I might add) pulled into the car park to quickly and lost control of his vehicle.  He clipped the front of my car.  I've had the damage assessed and I need a new complete front bumber (cost about £600).
  • FIAT - Fiat Dealers worst on 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Auto Express Driver Power verdict 2008. Fiat allegedly, second from bottom overall and worst on "Helpfulness and attitude" I just can`t believe that, given the new 500, it importance to the company and the new management seemingly having gone through the dealer network.
  • Three quick Qs about selling privately 27 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Believe it or not, two people are interested in coming to see my car tomorrow. I don't have 'any driver' on the car's insurance policy - the people need to show me they have third party cover to drive other vehicles before they get behind the wheel of my car, don't they? Or am I being super paranoid?
  • Be careful out there! 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
When you do set off, remember that it's probably a year or more since you last saw this weather, let alone drove in it. Young drivers may have never driven in this weather before now, so they will soon encounter their baptism of fire. Those who have driven in ice and snow will know that cars behave completely differently.
  • Which car for around £3-4k? 31 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hello all, I'm in need of a car which would be suitable for long distance motoring as I'm planning to start following my footy team around the country... but (as any woman would) I have a list of requirements: Max £4k in price Reliability is key Low insurance group (I'm still classed as a 'young driver') Economical (45mpg+ for m/way driving..!) Preferably no older than 5yrs. Now given the last point, I'm thinking diesel, unless I plan to drive a petrol extremely frugally (and that's about as likely as me buying a Smart car tomorrow).
  • Why do people.... 24 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Not dynamically very good nor very reliable, nor do they hold their value. The company is going bust for a very good reason. Think Yaris' are desirable by young drivers? They're for 70 year old women. And they have no character. And are expensive. (same for Honda Jazz) Use large insurance companies for their car insurance? Its usually more expensive than using a specialist.
  • Peugeot 206 SW trim quality (+C3 trim) 23 May 2002 (Forum)
However, the brand-new example I was looking at had about 6" of carpet edge detached from under the driver's door trim. What's more, there was no sign that I could see of any way to dismantle the plastic door trim to panel to pop it back in place. Annoying, not serious, but not what I'd expect from a brand-new car.
  • Prejudice against BMW & Merc drivers 26 Nov 2003 (Forum)
You're probably wasting a fine motor car. Hyundai, Daewoo - the ultimate car-as-white-goods. You are easy prey for ill-mannered drivers to carve up, and I'm just going to shove in front of you right now. Lorry driver - might is right. Gentlemen of the road - don't make me laugh. Know what mirrors are for? Mercedes - You have reached the pinnacle - you have nothing to prove, so why care what everyone says.
  • Uninsured- surely I'm entitled to see the bill? 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
My insurance lapsed at Midnight, and I was intending to buy my new policy at 7am when my wages hit my bank. Darn stupidly I drove in between. Our cars touched on a roundabout and the other driver was young and going at a fair speed- I was doing less than 35mph. The other driver over corrected and basically their car came off far worse than mine. I'm a single mum. I took the points and paid the fine.
  • DMF's and the van connection 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I thrashed the living daylights out of them, and the current transit and other similar vans are driven with equal cruelty by their current young drivers. Have you ever tried to beat a diesel MB sprinter off the lights, they could give a motorcycle a run for its money, so how come these vehicles which are usually driven absolutely flat out survive.
  • Any - Advice for inexperienced driver buying a used car 6 Jul 2018 (Forum)
We've decided we (my gf as well) can live with the potential leisurely pace of the engine/car given we are both quite cautious drivers and will be extra cautious with our 2 young children on board. Also we will be mostly driving on slower, local and flat roads anyway. We still really like the car and haven't been convinced enough by alternative cars to for one of them instead.
  • Honda Civic - Honda Civic - Is this car a good buy? 8 Nov 2017 (Forum)
    3) Rear 2 tyres are budget tyres (unheard of brands) of different makes. 4) bunch of small suffs scratches in the interior of the upper door frame of the drivers door.     Owner was not sure how they came. He thought that it might be due to him stepping out of the car holding the car key, which may have rubbed on the door frame.     Scuff marks on the bottom door sill on the drivers door.
  • Calm down dear... 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
...I'm really a very good driver! Well, as we all know, in my recent youth, I wasn't a very good driver, and the time has come to renew the car insurance again. Last year I think I paid about £800 fully comp, and this year the best the broker can come up with is £760, which I don't think is particularly good as I now have 3 years no claims discount and am practically an old lady (can't wait til I'm 25 and break through the magical young driver barrier!).
  • Dark evenings and dangerous drivers 2 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I carried on forward, determined that I was not going to be forced off the road by some aggressive teenage driver (male or female) but the car persisted. Glancing to the right, I saw the car, literally no more than an inch from mine, come forward again and then make to swerve around the front of my car. I hooted, twice, to warn them of what they were doing, but they took no notice.
  • Rust retrospectively, predicting future 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
In Conclusion, Perhaps rust only matters if you have experienced it and suffered as a result? and most modern young drivers will never have. But how do you predict the future for buying as rustproof a car as possible, when a Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz can rust faster than a Peugot and Fiat in the modern era?
  • The future could be bleak 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The current craze around here seems to be idiots on motor scooters riding on the pavements ! One day these idiots are going to be car drivers so God help us !
  • Road Manners 10 May 2001 (Forum)
(and I wasn't using the staff car park). Too bizarre. Struck me as the epitome of the type we see on tv moaning about young people in society, rudeness etc. You know I'd have minded less if it HAD beed a spotty yoof in a banger. Oil the wheels, count to ten, and be good out there! Stu.
