• Used car purchase - died after 2 days. 31 Jan 2007 (Forum)
  It's been to the local ford dealer who've diagnosed a broken coil pack and ECU and tell me it's a fiver off a grand to fix it. I didn't have any warranty from the used independent dealer I bought it from. But my question is, does anyone know if I have a case for the car being 'unfit for purpose' after 2 days and then needing £1000 worth of work? Thanks for listening TP

  We provided proof that the car was serviced. Renault then requested proof that genuine parts where used. We had the 3rd party garage provide copy of all invoices for parts used, this they did and all parts where supplied from Renault.

  He kept insisting that a diesel would be perfect. I then said ok put in writing that the dealer and Kia would accept under warranty any problems arising from the normal low mileage use of the car during the warranty period provide it was fully serviced with them. Nobody will warrant that sir.. OK so stop trying to sell us something we don't want!

  After the 4th issue with the car in so many weeks and after their warranty had ran out they washed their hands of us and now were left with a car that we have zero confidence in. Needless to say were now cutting our losses and trying to part exchange the car for a more reliable one.

  The question is the car is still under warranty they have all evidence that Vauxhall approved parts have been used, how are they able to even question whether the claim. It seems to me that Vauxhall will be fighting Vauxhall.

  It seems that without full engine monitoring, with owners removing their tuning boxes prior to their main dealer servicing, manufacturers are currently picking up the tab for expensive engine rebuilds under warranty. In future once black boxes are fitted, all ECU mods and tuning devices will be detectable and not only will the vehicles warranty be invalidated, but the true vehicle`s history will be made available to the used car buying public.
• Volkswagen Touran MPV (2003 - ) - 05 1.9tdi out of warranty major repair bill 10 Feb 2010 (Forum)
  They say it requires a new turbo, catalytic converter and exhaust system. VW have offered 50% as a goodwill payment. This leaves us will a bill of around £1,400. Is this resonable? Do I have any other lines to pursue? I have stalled them as they have had the car for 10 days (no courtesy car offered) while they've been waiting for an answer from VW.

  I have recently had some warranty work (used car) carried out by a well known Rover main dealer in SE London. I had a lower radiator outlet pipe split. I took the car to the dealer and explained the exact fault - I even drew a diagram for them!

  I also deduced they were not the seller as such but acted as an agent like Ebay. So there was no comeback or warranty with them... you had to buy the warranty on top. Just not the way we wanted to deal. 3/10 Next we went to Motorpoint. As we got out of our car intending to look over their stock a sales guy detached from a group and almost ran over to us.

  So, how important are the dealer stamps? How much does it reduce the value of the car? (both private and trade-in value). The other problem with using a local garage is that I won't be getting the stamp to keep the corrosion warranty valid. But I've read that corrosion warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on.

  The dealer wants me to reject the car so he can bill me for any damage that he doesn't accept. If i take a case in small claims court, do I stand a realistic chance of getting the VW or non-VW repair costs as compensation? This used car still functions as a car etc.

  1) let her use the Yaris, its better mpg but not ideal due to type fo travel, 2) Use the Mazda which has a worse mpg  3) Replace 1 car with a diesel due to the distance travelled, but if so which car to replace and which to buy (one still in warranty?)?

  The car comes with 3 months warranty and I have the option of purchasing a 2 year warranty for £445. So technically even if I were to run into this issue within 2 year time, I should be covered by the dealership warranty ?

  t know it?s optional and just go with it??? Anyway????.. Friday we drop the car off and get told ?that it?ll be £215 when we collect? . EXCUSE ME !!!!!! Their justification was that the ?value? service is only meant for cars over 3 years old and that by having that on our car it will invalidate the remainder of the warranty.
• Land Rover Discovery Sport - Broken electronic handbrake switch 11 Mar 2023 (Forum)
  Mine snapped off unexpectedly. The replacement switch costs around £55 but it appears to be on back order everywhere. My warranty is covering it but currently my car is off the road, as the MOT has just lapsed & I am using a hire car arranged via the warranty. There is no sign of a part being available anytime soon. The part is available on eBay but it won’t cut the mustard as a genuine part.

  I don't really want to waste £220 if they'd do just as good a job. Not sure if peace of mind is the 5 year warranty if it goes horribly wrong and a mistake is made. Can trust the local, but I've only ever used them for anything that's not the engine. Give its the first newest car I've ever bought, I've got the fear a bit.
• Used Hyundai ix20 - dealer or franchise? 9 Sep 2018 (Forum)
    Ideally I'm looking for a 2014 model or newer and less than 30k miles. I've seen a couple of possible candidates at Arnold Clark on a well known used car website and the adverts state "Franchise" in the description.  What does this mean exactly?  If I were to buy a car from AC and subsequently have to put in a claim under the warranty am I likely to encounter a problem or is a franchise considered to be similar to a main dealer?
• VW Headlamp/Switch 16 Nov 2001 (Forum)
  VW do not accept any responsibility despite a recall in Sept 97 for the wiring loom (which was done prior to us buying the car). The most recent switch to burn out did so within 12 months of the previous one which had been replaced under warranty so VW say the replacement is not covered by the warranty and we must pay for it.
• Alfa Romeo Rust Warranty 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
  Just before it's first service, I noticed a fair amount of rust on the exhaust silencer. I pointed this out when I took the car in and the garage told me that this would not be covered by the anti perforation warranty as the exhaust 'still worked'. It's now due for it's second service and the rust is worse than ever. Admittedly there are no obvious holes and the unit appears solid but clearly, at some point in the not too distant future, but presumably after the warranty has expired, it will need replacing.

  Good evening all,   I currently have a Seat Ibiza purchased end of Jan as approved used. It still has 1 year 8 months remaining warranty and has been in my possession 4.5 months.   It's had two tow-away repair's undertaken by two different dealerships (not the purchasing dealership mind) for major faults.
