  Micronetshowroom had the One at £9,097 but its now £9400...the gap is rising between a uk one and that...however i still reckon importer - know any other good importer prices? Also, have been considering an A3 1.6 Sport used and a 316ti compact used - is the Mini still a better car? any opinions appreciated!

    To avoid paying higher rates of VED, a pre March 2001 model seemed a good bet.  Found an interesting one on ebay .. but see that it is an import (seems many are).  No worries as such .. I currently drive an imported car. However, the car is a 2000 model, has a 'X' number plate but was registered in the UK in 2003.  'Normally', such a car would pay the engine related tax of £205.

  On Sunday I went to an Audi dealer to trade in my golf 1.6.se (02 reg , 8500, import full uk spec) for an audi tt. I was offered £7500 because it was an import - the dealer rang up the underwriting dept and then gleefully told me that this is the best price and that's it normal in the industry to do this.

  How has this happened? Despite all the efforts of various parties to bring down the barriers against importing, the DVLA throw another up. Putting the car on a trailer means the car will be liable for German VAT (although reclaimed later) and will cost me around three times the price of a self collect.

  Recently I saw an add for a new 143 BHP Seat Leon in an advert from a Euro importer. (Diesel Car Feb 02). Can anyone tell me whether this is a factory fitted chip change, an importer chip change or whether this is a standard car offered in Spain but not here. Also, how different is the injection system design on the 110 (and therefore possibly this 143) to the newer PD systems.

  The Car is a 2016 plate but its only had one Mot. I've just read the advert again and it does say it was a Japanese import. Would the insurance be higher than normal  ? Guy tells me gas all the relevant paperwork. Should I Buy or find something else ? Thanks for any advice.

    a) How difficult would this task be, with mating up the engine to secondhand auto gearbox, transmission tunnel shape and and the lever/shift when doing the replacement? b) Does the fact the car is an import increase the insurance premiums. Any thoughts or experience of such a project would be greatly appreciated.

  When I asked if these were included in the sale the dealer explained that the car has Irish plates and had been imported at some point. My mum works at a BMW dealership and they have advised not to touch the car as it is imported? It has Northern Irish plates so this is UK isn't it? They can't seem to explain why I shouldn't buy an Irish import, though it is orginally from a BMW dealer.

  Think I'm about to buy a nearly new Leon TDi 110 from Motorpoint. The rep told me they're euro imports and thats why they dont have an Alarm fitted (the UK dealers fit these apparently) What they do have is a superb titanium effect centre console which I don't think is available in the UK and the car's £2K cheaper than UK dealer price.

  I'm looking at buying an imported 5 door Golf V5 from Trade Sales. They expect a four week wait for delivery and quote around a 3 grand saving on the UK list price. The specification quoted is as per the UK but doesn't have the automatic windscreen wipers (which I can live without), fitted CD / radio unit or alarm (but does have the immobiliser).

  Hi There, Has anyone imported a Golf from Europe and then found that the service book that came with it was missing information? Apparently Golfs come with a data sticker on the front cover of the service book which details the VIN number, engine number, paint code, equipment fitted etc.

  I tried to convince my local dealer to match their offer but he instead started to warn me about the danger of buying import cars. So my questions are: What does full UK specs means? Does an import car with "uk specs" is the same as if it was bought in the UK or is it only a minimum requirement? The dealer was also warning me that some import do not have under sealing depending where they are built!

  My father in law has asked me to look up buying a Ford Focus Soft Top, which I believe will not be available in this country for a couple of years yet. Does anyone here know of any companies that would be able to import one for him.
