The problem seems worse in extreme temperatures i.e. very hot or very cold. Dont'know alot about diesel engines but seems like poor compression? Fuel starvation? Fuel pump seals? Once the engine is started it drives perfectly...... All suggestions welcome. Thanks. -

Ford - All - Ford Endura DE 1.8 non-start 14 Nov 2011 (Forum)
This at first did not achieve anything, BUT then a split was spotted in a small hose on the drivers side of the block. It was taken off, and when cranking fuel started to sputter from it. The end was snipped off, and it was re-attached to the spigot. Started first go. :o) I can only assume that was a diesel supply/return line, and the split had caused an air lock/fuel to return to the tank. -

gremlins in trooper enigine! 11 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Also if the hand fuel pump in the engine bay is tried before cranking it is soft for the first two or three pumps before it becomes stiff, suggesting possibly that the fuel is running back? It is fine to start any other time, just has bother when left overnight, or for a long period. -

Vauxhall Vectra B - Vectra B starting issue 17 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Turns out its a fuel issue, i dont know a great deal about motors but there has been a pump system fitted along the fuel pipe i presume, situated under the bonnet at the top of the engine(under the wipers) which includes a manual bulb type pump. a mobile mechanic told me to manually pump this to prime the diesel to the engine, which works to an extent. so decided to drop it in with my regular mechanic who suggests its the fuel pump drawing in air and its too expensive to repair on an old car. im wondering a) why was this not an issue on cold starts ? -

Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2001 2.0 DuraTorq DI loss of power 1 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Have a 2001 Ford Mondeo Diesel 2.0 litre DI DuraTorq that has a near stall problem. Took it to the official Ford garage yesterday, hooked it up to the computer with no clear response.... just a "possibility" from the technician that the issue may be with the fuel lift pump attached to the fuel tank. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 05 2.0 Engine cut out 10 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I had the sediment light come on a few months back so i took off the fuel filter and drained it but didnt notice any water in the diesel. Put it back and all was fine until now. Do people think it is a bad batch of fuel i have got and this is causing the problem or?? Why would water in the filter only effect a cold engine? -

Skoda Fabia Estate or other - Which car 27 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I need a commuting car to do 60 miles per day on A roads and rural roads, economy is essential. I need an estate to carry my dogs. I've looked at the Fabia estate diesel and the Ceed diesel, and thought the Fabia looked perfect due to its low tax and fuel economy. However I've then read about engine faults on them. I need to be looking at older cars around 2006 / 8 ish. -

I used to have a Peugeot diesel which failed a couple of MOT smoke tests. Using fuel additives (Forte Diesel Treatment and BG CF5) and some long hot motorway miles allowed the car to easily pass on re-testing. I now have a Hyundai Matrix which came close to failing the MOT Lamda emissions test. -
