  • Fiesta Cut-Out 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Driving home last night (2004 54 Fiesta 1.25) in built up area doing around 40mph when the engine suddenly cut out and the battery warning light illuminated. Lost power steering assistance and pulled it into the side where the engine started first time as usual it has been completely fine since. Why did that happen?
  • Astra alarm 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
key will unlock the doors but as soon as a door is opened the alarm goes off. It doesn't seem to bother anyone else apart from me? Is it just a new battery that is needed in the remote or something more expensive? I thought that if the remote packed up you should be able to revert back to the good old fashioned key?
  • 307 Diesel Economy Mode 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
After 10 minutes radio cuts out and a little light goes on saying "Economy Mode". Drives me mad. Is the battery power so marginal that the radio (standard fit) will drain it after 10 mins. Can this setting be over ridden?
  • vauxhall cavalier 1.7 izuzu diesel 7 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Does not like cold days and will not start without alot of cranking. In warm weather, or when engine is hot it will start fine. Battery is good and new glow plugs made no difference whatsoever. Once it has started it runs well after a puff of smoke has cleared. Any ideas chaps?
  • Peugeot 306 key blip 21 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My key blip no longer unlocks the doors. The red LED on the front of the key doesn't light - I am assuming that the battery inside the blip has died (the operating range of the blip has gradually been getting worse over time). Any ideas on how I replace it? Or do I have to buy a new blip?
  • mondeo td bleeding fuel lines 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)

  • honda aircon drain 27 Aug 2005 (Forum)
A friend with a 4 yr old Honda Civic reports that every evening his chores include the removal of a fuse from the car. If he doesn't do this he ends up with a flat battery in the morning, he says that the RAC advised him that the fuse was in the a/c circuit. Has anyone else heard of this, and better, a fix? Moved from discussion. smokie

  • Isuzu Trooper (Monterey) Overcharge? 18 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Folks, I put my digital multimeter across both batteries (the Monterey has two) in turn today and read the following: @2750 - 16.89 and 17.46 @2000 - 14.90 and 15.80 Do these seem high? What will I "cook" first if they are? Are there any other checks I should carry out, or is it time to call my auto electrician?
  • Inertia cut-off switch - rover 100 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Does anybody know how I'd reset the fuel cut-off switch after a sudden stop, please? I know where the switch is (under the bonnet, between the battery and the ECU), it seems to have a rubber cover over it. Do I need to prise this cover off or will this damage it? Thanks.
  • Fine Weather Xantia ! 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
If it's left in the garage overnight - no problem (unless it's left for a few days). It has had a new battery fitted so can't be that. Any ideas ? Cheers !
  • Biggest car design bloopers. Volume 2 4 Dec 2004 (Forum)
t=23727 The original Beetle had windscreen washers that ran off the air pressure from the spare tyre. Saved battery power. Rendered the spare wheel useless.

  • vw passat batt life 24 Mar 2004 (Forum)
How long can I expect the battery to last? It is just comming up on 4 years old the car starts no problem, but if it's not started for a couple of days it sounds if it is cranking a bit slow and the stop sign on the multi fuction display illuminates briefly.
  • Peugeot 405 Flickering Headlights 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The headlights and dashboard lights keep flickering on my 405 TD Estate. Battery is good, alternator is good seems strange. Only other fault is the windscreen washer pump stopped, checked the connection and I get 12V when activated but when not pressed there is still 5.5v???
  • Car radio code 25 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My mums Fiesta had a flat battery and I recharged it. The radio has since lost its code. She has mislaid the handbook and the supplying dealer is long gone. I read somehere that there is a web site which can give you the code if you have the radio serial number - for a fee.
  • Astra gearbox oil 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have a astra 94 1.4i, sometimes ago i changed the oil and filter, when asked if the gearbox oil needs topping up, i was told it that the gearbox is sealed and no oil needs changing. Are astra`s gearboxes the sealed type like batteries?? The car sometimes is balky when changing do you think it might be needing gearbox oil?
  • VW Golf electrics 17 Apr 2003 (Forum)
It is not particularly a problem but more a nuisance. The digital clock resets itself to midnight every now and then. My first thought it that the battery is somehow disconecting itself but this sounds a bit strange as the car runs around happily. Do you guys have any thoughts and could there be a larger problem lurking? Ta.
  • 1997 Vectra remote 1 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I've lost the (only) remote for my car- looking at a previous post on resynchronising does this mean that I can obtain any remote from a breaker and remove the battery and then resynch? Also does my key have a transponder? Reason I ask is that both these parts are top dollar at the dealers and I'd rather take the cheaper option if it's there TIA
