TOYOTA AYGO - Loud Grinding Noise - TOYOTA AYGO 20 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Sadly (and I should not have told my dealership in hindsight) at the MOT I told them to investigate a slight burning smell from my clutch when the MMT gearbox automatically downshifts on steep hills (thus making the engine rev excessively). This was not a major issue and I lived with it for three plus years. It was only on the off-chance I told them to investigate. -
Small cars were do I begin. 1 Oct 2018 (Forum)
The first issue is when I was learning I tried to do my lessons in a manual car but due to my fibromyalgia I struggled with my pain to keep up with changing gears and switching between the pedals and it was my instructor who advised I learn automatic which was much eaiser but also disappointed as I know it will limit my car choice. So any recommendations have to be a good automatic. The second is my fibromyalgia the car has to be comfty on long journeys as I can get really stiff were in my boyfriend's RX the ride is smooth and is really comfty and doesn't affect my fibromyalgia but a friend's mini cooper caused a lot of pain. -

Merging Road Tax and Vehicle Insurance 3 May 2005 (Forum)
Any vehicle that does not have its insurance renewed on expiry would be automatically notified to the DVLA who could use their existing powers to remove it from the highways. What do other Backroomers think? As far as I can see, the only losers from this arrangement are the Post Office, who are set to lose out with web-based Road Tax renewals anyway. -
VW Golf - Help choosing a car - round 2 9 Jan 2025 (Forum)
Following the disaster that was my brother's Mazda3 which is 99.9% to be refunded, he's looking for another car again (must be automatic) and has his eyes set on mk 7.5 2.0 Golf GT TDI Bluemotion Tech (67 plate with around 60k on the clock and FSH from VW), cost is just under 15K Would this be a wise choice or is there another trim he should consider for upto £15k? -
n/a - Smart meter overhaul introducing ‘surge pricing' 11 Feb 2022 (Forum)
To open gates for ‘surge pricing’ Smart meters are to automatically send energy suppliers half-hourly updates on their customers' power use in a revolutionary move that will allow "surge pricing" in millions of households' bills. The energy regulator Ofgem will be granted legal powers in May allowing it to change the way smart meters operate, so that information about usage is sent to suppliers every 30 minutes by default. -
Kia Niro 2018/68 - Fuel Consumtion of PHEV 5 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I then switch to HEV mode, move the gear lever to 'sport' which enables me to use 6th gear pretty much the whole time whilst on the motorway. On normal (flattish) motorwars, with the aircon on the car automatically recharges the battery at the rate of up to 1 mile per 10 run. Once the battery is recharged to 35-36 miles, I switch back to electric until the battery reading goes down to approx 15 miles and then I repeat the process. -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SE - Intermittent Knocking Noise from Engine Idling 23 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I've noticed what seems like an occasional misfire on my 2013 Corsa 1.4 SE Automatic. A few months ago, I'd notice an occasional slight knock/bang and the revs would momentarily fall slightly and then go back to normal. Now the weather is a lot hotter, I've noticed when pulling away when the engine is hot the engine bangs quite a bit with the same slight drop in revs. -
Audi A3 Sportback - Audi A3 wont crank after cleaning fuses 4 Jun 2021 (Forum)
However, now the indicators and wipers are working the car wont start. If you turn the ignition key it wont crank at all. The P on the automatic gearbox is flashing which has never happened before. I override the gearbox and moved between the drive, neutral etc and with each switch the corresponding letter was flashing. I have disconnected the battery and cleaned the terminals but still nothing. -

Ford C-MAX - Ford Cmax wobble under acceleration 24 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I have a 2007 Ford C-Max 2.0 petrol Automatic. It has a wobble but only on acceleration. You feel it through both the accelerator pedal and through the floor in either of the front seats. As you ease off the throttle the wobble goes away and the car will cruise along nicely. -
Auto load lugger 10 Oct 2019 (Forum)
About 3 months ago I moved much closer to work but my commute consists of stop/start driving. For ease, I'd really like to get an automatic as my left leg is currently getting an incredible workout each day. Our new house requires a lot of work, so I have thought about selling my astra and getting something like a VW touran, ford galaxy... -
Advice for new car - i've confused myself! 14 Jun 2019 (Forum)
I currently have a little 1.6 Fabia 3 which has been hugely reliable and great fun but is now a little small and has never been the best for motorway driving so with these parameters in mind:- 1) comfortable motorway ride 2) reasonable fuel economy 3) spacious enough for a family of four 4) reliable and cheap to maintain 5) long term purchase, probably best part of next ten years or so 6) a decent sound system! Other than that I'm pretty open minded about petrol or diesel, manual or automatic. I've just got myself in a position where I can't see the wood for the trees so would really appreciate somebody taking a dispassionate look for me. i have a budget of 8-10k. thank you! -
Car purchase for future use - Opinions please! 13 Mar 2019 (Forum)
With the help and advice of SLO and others, I bought privately a lovely top of the range 2003 2.4 petrol, automatic Honda Accord with very low miles and full Honda history for a touch more than bangernomics money. The Accord is an excellent car and I get a bit of a thrill from owning a reliable car outright, which cost very little money in car terms. -

My partner was paying for both of our cars for years and due to her card expiry, we must hsve missed 4 crossing payments. -
Mitsubishi Colt - Rear wheel locked - Mitsubishi Colt 2007 13 Nov 2018 (Forum)
I've tried to rock the car back and forth,, forward and reverse to force it to move (which used to work before) but this time it feels really stuck. It's an automatic car, with drum brakes. I've managed to take the wheel and it certainly looks like it could just be either rust, or the pads heated to the drum (due to my poor braking ability) My father in law has had a go at tapping the drum with a hammer. -
Used Hyundai ix20 - dealer or franchise? 9 Sep 2018 (Forum)
She is going to her local dealer tomorrow for a test drive to be sure it ticks all the boxes (high driving position, good boot space and capable of seating 4). She only does 5k miles a year so that means petrol. She's also keen on an automatic which means it's the 1.6 engine or nothing. Because of the warranty I'm advising her to stick to Hyundai dealers only (so as to avoid any issues if she ever has to claim) but they don't have that many on offer across the whole of the UK up to her top spend of £9k. -
Ford b max zetec navigator auto - 12 month old Finance car Total loss 7 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Now I was asked to contact ford which I did but I contacted my dealer who said they don’t make ford b max in automatic anymore. Told insurance when they should’ve been contacted ford finance which I confirmed with ford finance.they are going down the total loss route regardless and not offering me a replacement car claiming it’s hit the 12 month mark anyway but I would say at the time of accident it wasn’t? -
Who knows - Advice on new car please 1 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Hi there. I am hoping someone can help. I currently have an automatic Hyundai Tucson which I love and does the job, however, the fuel economy on it is ridiculous and I am only getting aroung 370miles to a full tank. I have changed my job and have to travel twice the distance I did before meaning that I can no longer afford to run it so I am looking to sell it and get something different. -
