Britain, Snow and other cold countries 3 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Why there is traffic chaos in Britain while other countries do fine? Is it because 1. Our cars are not equipped for snow 2. We lack snow driving skill (I don't have a clue how to drive differently in snow) 3. We have much higher traffic level 4. ??? -

No Insurance, vehicle seizure? 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
With regard to the policy of seizing uninsured motor vehicles, I know this applies to vehicles being driven on a road but does it apply to a vehicle being driven on a public place (supermarket car park say)? The reason I ask is that a person needs to be insured to drive on a road or public place, if a person is caught driving around a supermarket car park (open to the public) or on a public park without any insurance can the vehicle be seized under the legislation? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 2.0 hdi knocking sound at speed 9 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My 306 HDI 2000/W has a loud knocking sound and harsh ride at about 50-70mph. The car vibrates as if driving over small bumps in the road but the problem seems to go if you drive above 70? The tyre pressures are all ok, maybe the balancing is out or suspension issues? Any ideas please -

24 years with a clean licence, must have done a million miles driving around the country in previous jobs, nowadays 99% of my time is spent driving a Citroen C15 diesel van that couldnt speed if it wanted to. Borrow 'er indoors Pug for an hour and bosh lasered doing 80 in a 70mph limit. -
Smoking at the wheel 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Given the law re mobile phones (see current thread), will smoking go the same way? IMO lighting p and 'managing' your ciggie while driving has to be distracting, especially in demanding driving conditions. It's also interesting to consider that self-administering a drug (actually a whole variety of chemical compounds) on the move is legal. -
Looking at other drivers 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Driving near home yesterday with SWMBO as passenger, she asked me why I didn't acknowledge one of our neighbours. I replied that I never really notice who's driving another vehicle, just being aware that it's there and what it's doing. -

Most Comfortable Car 24 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I drive 66 miles a day over a mix of A & B roads to and from work in a Renault Clio. At the end of each day I feel all of those 66 commuted miles. The Citroen C5 with its soft suspension might be the sort of car to all a drive of that distance in good comfort. -

My 206 1.4LX has developed what I can only describe as an intermittent squeaking noise while driving. It seems to be coming from the drivers side and the front of the car. Bath Day 11 Apr 2007 (Forum)
This may sound a crazy idea but I am planning to travel from just north of Glasgow to Bath, stay a few hours for various reasons and drive back the same day. I would leave early hours say 0200 Hrs to avoid the traffic one way, AA say 411 miles and 7 hours drive time. I have a reliable comfortable car at least. Any tips to avoid disaster from the members would be appreciated. -

It was admittedly reckless driving, the judge said, but not dangerous. The driver was a politician, by the way." -
Mini luxury cars 9 Dec 2006 (Forum)
If we are forced to drive smaller, far more economical cars, are todays superminis a viable option for long distance driving? They seem to have most of the equipment that you get on larger cars and reading about them, they seem to be rated as comfy and have a fair amount of space for their increasing size. -

Cambelt powered diesel pumps 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Is there any reason why manufacturers do this? Surely it would be best off driven by the aux drive belt, leaving the cam timing belt to do just what it says - keep everything in sync. I can't see the aux drive belt being hard to keep correctly timed as long as everything was designed properly. -
