  Hi, I recently had my alternator changed, but not the battery. Now the battery crapped out recently, and I've had it replaced, the downside, the chap replaced it at the side of the road. Now everything is fine except for my electric windows. The switch is two steps down, two steps up, so a slight push (one click) allows me to manually operate them, while a full push (two clicks) makes them go down all the way on their own, the same for up (1 click = up manually, two click = up automatically all the way).

  However, it always starts readily when cold (within a couple of seconds) and can then be turned off and restarted several times without hesitation. When symptoms first appeared intermittently a few weeks ago, I had the battery (3+ years old) and charging tested with the engine hot - all was reported OK. Unfortunately (?) there were no symptoms on that occasion. So which is more likely - bad battery and bad battery test, or lazy starter motor when hot?

  My other half started his micra tonight to go to work, felt the battery maybe a bit lazy but it started ok - he drove about 100 yards and it cut out. Struggled to re-start it and then the engine light came on. He stopped engine to see whether the engine light would reset but then it wouldn't restart as battery had flattened.

  Looking for some help here guys , have got a 2003 307sw 2.0 hdi (90). For the past few months it has been a pig to start , thought it was the battery , tested it it was only giving out below 12v. so grand went a changed it and it barely started with the new battery , again thought it probably just needs a spin to get the battery up to optimum charge.

  Any suggestions? Is it most likely to simply be needing a new battery (ill put a new alternator belt on anyway - heard it squeezing a little)
• Bump starting problem 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
  In a car park yesterday I came across a father and daughter pushing a car along, and struggling. They were pushing it right across the car park to where they had an extension lead and battery charger, and being a generous soul I offered to help push it for a bump start. The battery wasn't completely dead (dash lights came on etc), but the engine would only run for a second or two and then stopped.

  My 1996 1.8 Endura-engined Diesel Fiesta has always taken a while to turn over ever since I bought it a year ago, but it is particularly bad in the cold weather. A 'fast fit' type centre recently told me my battery needed replacement, however a friend with a DIY type charger showed the battery as still being in a reasonable condition. So it could be the battery. However, something I have noticed is that I have never heard the diesel heater in operation whilst I am waiting for the orange glow light to go out on the dash, which generally stays on for around 5 - 10 seconds.

  Hi, intermittent starting problem with my '95 Passat TD. Turning the starter sometimes it will start instantly, other times symptoms of completely flat battery. Starter clicks, dashboard lights go hay-wire, clock & trip meter reset to zero & electric windows start to come down!! Suspect poor earth somewhere ? Battery OK, have removed and cleaned battery leads and all obvious earth connections around engine bay.

  Hi, My Astra wouldn't start today out of the blue. Called out the RAC who jump started it then it proceded to splutter a bit with battery light & engine lights flickering and no power steering. After stopping it and jump starting it again things seemed to go back to normal, so I drove home being followed by the RAC man. When I arrived home and turned it off it started again no problems, the RAC guy tested the battery again and it seemed to be fine.

  Most annoyingly, whenever the battery was disconnected the ECU settings were lost and had to be reset (no battery back-up) by the dealer ! Most reliable car owned - a 1984 Nissan Cherry :-( which was horrible to drive but never let me down and needed only the annual service during the 3 years I owned it.

  Hi all, assuming that the performance figures of the Octavia phev are given with both battery and engine at maximum tilt, how is the performance affected if the battery is discharged? Does it drop off to that of the basic 1.4litre engine so my car becomes a sluggish drive ? Thinking of buying one but can't find any data on this.

  Hi, Sony Dab Radio on my 2011 Ford Kuga stopped working after my battery went flat. Replaced battery but radio is showing enter code. Car did not come with a code. the Radio serial number is V004739.  Can you please help with this, didn't realise how much i miss the radio.

  My mothers Ka won't fire up. It has been standing for 9months in her dry garage. It has had a battery conditioner connected to maintain the battery. It started and ran perfectly 9 months previously. It now cranks over on the starter healthily but no signs of life at all. There is plenty of fuel in the tank.

  Further to my previous post a short while ago, Having had a problem with keyless entry for a while now, another problem battery ran to flat / new battery on ran down 3 times. Auto Elec, Co pulled fuses, couldn't find the culprit advised to try Ford dealership, seems as though this is a harder problem than online video's tell us.

  The battery on the 2004 Honda Civic 1.6 Vtec sport was flat when i started the car when it did not start the alarm went off. I removed the battery and charged it but when I connect it the alarm will not go off.

  Hi can any one help I have a 307 that the battery went flat, new battery fitted and have no throttle plus the anti pollution code is showing on the dash. I have checked all injectors all working but seems to be over fueling to me. If I unplug the mass sensor I have revs but takes ages to build up !

  Not only is it oil-leaking its also a contrary starter - but only when I have had the roof down.  After a few hours it just wont start.  All the lights come on then battery light stays on.  I'm putting roof down when engine is running.  The car starts with bump and then starts the following day and thereafter as normal!!  If its battery surely that would stay flat and car wouldn't start next day?

  I have a 2000 Nissan QX, converted to LPG seven years ago, it is a great car!! My problem is that over the past two years I find the battery drains very quickly, in 3/4 days, Could this be a fault with the NATS system as it seems to be the only item that is using any battery power when the car is stationary and in the garage? Is it possible to disconnect the NATS system?

  When I come to a stop the engine cuts out as well. While driving without stopping there are no problems and it drives perfect. The battery light comes on when I come to a stop. I take it this would be most likely a battery fault? Thanks
