  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.25 Running problem at 3000rpm 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
    I've got a 1998 Fiesta 1.25 LX (zetec) that seems to have a running problem at about 3000 rpm in all gears. It becomes juddery and needs some time to rev any higher. The power from then on also seems a bit poor. Any advice? Thanks {volume in subject header lowered!}
  • mk3 golf gti 'lumpy running and power' 8 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The car is really running lumpy and is losing power on all gears. Its seems the car is taking about 10 seconds to register that i have my foot to the floor and and is really strugling to get up to speed. The rev counter is a bit eratic on start up and after a minute it sits at normal idle revs.
  • Mondeo diesel running roughly 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Friend's S reg 1998 Mondeo diesel: The engine has started to run very roughly. Took it in to Ford dealer, they checked ECU etc. I suspected a slight blockage in the injection - so have put detergents in and given it an Italian tune up (ie revved it lots in driving).
  • water heard running in my Ford Focus 23 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi, When I put the steering wheel on full lock (right hand) and at low speed I can hear water running behind the dashboard. If I then switch to full left lock I hear nothing - then the noise returns again as I switch back to full right lock. The car is a Ford Focus. Any ideas as to what the cause might be?
  • LPG - Good or Bad 1 Dec 2006 (Forum)
If as seen suggesting running half Gas/Petrol, then might as well run a diesel with the same fuel costs per year overall as Gas/Petrol. Your Comments ??

  • How to run in a sports car ? 16 May 2004 (Forum)
Just bought a new Ignis Sport (very nippy 1.5) a month ago I currently drive it pretty much as I would if it were a non-new car, that is frequently rev the engine to 4,000 rpm (but not really above that). The Suzuki dealer told me new cars did not particularly need running-in periods. I'd like to have yr opinion, what is considered best practice ? thanks
  • Peugeot 307 hdi 13 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Since cold mornings began in October, the first start up each day creates a large cloud of blue smoke, and some roughish running for the first mile or so. After that it is fine and runs well, starting again later in the day is no problem at all. Have an Xsara with same engine - no problems. Both do a mixture of runs. Didn't happen last winter.
  • Xsara Temperature 18 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Anyone know what temperature a Xsara 2.0 HDi 110 hatchback should run at? Mine runs at 75C; I'd have thought it should be higher, but the garage tell me that this engine 'is designed to run cool'. they also say that the overall fuel consumption of 43mpg is 'about right'. the car is 13 months old, covered 13k miles.
  • Power torque and short runs 17 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I thought power was i.e the ability to do work. confused over this. What is the definition of a short run one that does not get the engine up to normal operating temp? Bye for now

  • Briggs & Stratton mower sooty 6 Aug 2016 (Forum)
This mower is under 3 years old and is clean with very low mileage (small garden!). I was away last w/e and Mrs S said it felt like it was running short of fuel - it starts to rev itself when it is. (The engine runs at same revs whether clutch is engaged or not). So she filled with unleaded from our usual can - not dirty. The mower now idles and runs roughly, with black puffs of smoke from exhaust, and the plug is wet sooty.

Vehicle also idles very rough with slight engine rock as if off a cylinder it takes a long time to reach running temperature. We put our hand held code reader on vehicle code came up P 1239. Injector - open circut wiring When running temperature reached vehicle runs 100% all day long. Any feedback greatly accepted, Reguards Paul {removed repeated words in subject header that automatically get included when you make your selection from the compulsory drop down menus and fill in boxes.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 96 1.4 Lumpy running 13 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Due to a power steering leak I've not run my Polo for about 1 month now and the battery had gone flat when I went to start it today. No problem as I used jump leads to get it going. The problem is the engine is really running rough now and it definately not running on all 4 cylinders.
  • Peugeot 405 Cambelt change/timing 1 Sep 2002 (Forum)
The belt appears to be in good condition and was not excessively slack. The engine won't run when timed correctly, runs but does not pull well when the camshaft is advanced by one tooth (17 crankshaft degrees) & runs much better with the cam advanced by 2 teeth (34 crank degrees). Is the ignition timed off the crank or the camshaft & can the engine management partially compensate for mechanical mistiming?
