  • What use a plastic coat hanger. 19 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I used it to make a paint stir paddle, and in doing so, I looked at it's modern replacement, a plastic jobby. Those wire hangers, an instant and everlasting repair for the vandalised radio antenna, had other endless uses but I must admit I could not think of anything for the plastic one. What have you done with wire hangers and can anyone think of another use for the plastic ones, other than supporting clothes?
  • Austin Allegro- worst car of all time !? 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I heard on the radio this afternoon that the Allegro, my first car, at 17 till 25 has been voted the worst car ever. I can't believe it I loved it, despite often doing things you do as a youngster, I never got stopped or caught, and was very reliable.

  • Astra dash bulb replacement 11 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The wife has an October 2003 Astra Convertible which has been faultless. Until now, now it's just out of warranty!!! One of the backlight bulbs behind the radio display unit at the top of the dash has gone so that one half of the display is very dim. How easy is it then to get to this to change the bulb?. The central binnacle seems to be a separate unit from the rest of the dash.
  • '02 Corsa steering wheel audio control 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi, Just swapped the radio/cassette out of my Daughters '02 Corsa for a CDR 2005 CD player. All works fine but i would like to change the steering wheel for the same type with audio controls fitted. Is it a straight change or is a harness needed as well?
  • Big-dog, this is rubber ducky, over 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Thee's enough of us that we'll be in 2 cars, so I thought it would be amusing if we could pick up some sort of 2-way radio to allow us to communicate between the vehicles. Anyone know of anything available which would work? Obviously not willing to spend an overly large amount, since it's just for a laugh. Also, if I can find one, I'll be needing lessons on CB speak...
  • police light checks 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
This includes checking for defect lights and if they are defect the result is £60 fine and 3 penalty points! This is how my wife heard it on the radio. Surely as a vehicle is a mechanical item that means any light can become defect at any time without you knowing. I can not believe that the plod can fine and issue 3 points, years ago it was just a friendly advise to "get it repaired" I would for sure contest such.
  • vectra digital display 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
i've a 99 vectra and something has happened to the display that gives the temp/time radio station i dont have the on board computer display just the standard fit one it looks like the display has stopped working but on inspection you can see it's still ok its just the back light that illuminates has blown or whatever causes it to be lit up the amber colour it normally is -- is this a common/simple fault to rectify or is it a garage type fault ??
  • Finding 12volt LED's 19 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I have just bought a used Peugeot 106 and have found the Clarion CD/Radio only partially illuminates at night. I have checked the LED's inside the removable front panel and 5 out of 6 are not working. I have searched everywhere on the Net and can only find 3 and 5 volt replacement LED's.

  • £1.45 per mile 13 Jul 2004 (Forum)
David Begg was on Radio 4 a moment ago describing the latest luny plan, which is to charge up to £1.45 per mile on congested roads, depending on time of day and location. He said that a lot of people these days have flexitime and would therefore choose to travel when the charge was cheaper.
  • The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 18 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The radio 4 programme 'more or less' is covering speed cameras at 3pm. They are going to be discussing regression to the mean and testing whether the apparent reduction in accidents at camera sites is regression to the mean or a measurable actual effect.
  • Fr**lander. 31 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Anyway they gave me a 2000 mile old 03 Fr**lander, first time I'd ever driven one. What an awful thing. Dismal instruments, poor radio, interior like an 80s Montego, to add insulst to injury its brake lights were stuck on. Glad to get shot of it and pick up the rattly old bus, which passed its MoT and was probably more street-legal than the other thing.
  • Asleep at the wheel 28 May 2003 (Forum)
M25 on Sat I was driving in the inside lane at about 65mph - only about an hour's drive. I felt a bit sleepy so I turned up the aircon and the radio. Next thing I knew I was on the hard shoulder having been woken-up by the rumble strips. I quickly managed to get back on line with no mishaps. I must be getting older because this has never happened before.
  • full lock grinding? 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
ok its my 406 again (i hate it somtimes), when doing a turn in the road the other day before i'd put my radio in, when the full lock was on either way i think (hard to test), obviously moving slowly their was a grinding noise coming from the wheels. once you take even a little bit off it stops, and only at full lock, don't know about speeds cos obviously you can't move that fast with full lock on.
  • Hot Air? 8 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Did anyone here an item on radio 2 yesterday about a car that has been developed (In France, I think) that runs on compressed air? Apparantly it can refilled by the air compressor at any garage in two minutes and has a range of 150 miles with a top speed of 69 mph.

  • 1994 Fiesta - sudden dead battery 7 Dec 2006 (Forum)
She was driving the girls back from school and was in a slow moving traffic jam for ages with all the electrics (fan, front demister, rear demister, radio, lights, etc...) going. Suddenly the radio cut out, the dashboard lights all went out and the car engine seemed to labour a bit. She waited for a minute or so, then turned off the rear and front demisters and all the lights came back on and the radio did too.
  • Porsche Boxster - Porsche Communications Management PCM loading maps 21 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Got a 2010 Porsche Boxster 987 Gen 2. 2.9 PDK with PCM3.0. The PCM unit is shows "loading maps... " Other functions of PCM like phone, radio, ipod etc works OK. Has been working OK for years previously. Tried removing fuse row C F10 PCM3 TRM30.  leaving out for 2mins  to PCM unit, no difference.  Suspect the sat nav is a hard disk unit, not sure how this can be diagnosed or removed for repair or can a new map be loaded.
