Drugs bust imminent - firework warning 20 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I was taliking about this to a PCO, in the City this Morning - and he said the `fireworks` were a likely warning of a drugs bust in the area. Last night at 9.30pm - the previous night at 10.00pm. It`s a gigantic firework that puts five coloured booming, airbursts up to around 300ft - perhaps much more.Clearly not for display or celebrations as it`s still daylight at 9.30pm. Or are they professional shipping flares? -
Enduring bodges - the oilcan 2 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Yeah, I remember - hot as it is today and the heat on your back and gratitude that you could still use the oilcan although it`s handle was now loose. Well, that was 54 years ago and the bodge is still holding. I`ve been using the can ever since - filled with engine oil and used on door hinges and tie rods. It`s going to be the only oilcan I ever own in my life and it seems up for another 54 yrs - at least. -

Do the VED bands mean the end of the petrol V6? 11 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Both the cars in my household have V6 petrol engines with automatic transmission. One is a 2000 Jag S type with 3 litre engine and the other is a 1999 MB W202 with 2.4 litre engine. At the moment I'm still paying the old-style VED because both cars are pre-2001. But both are well over 100,000 miles now and around 10 years old, so I'll need to start thinking about replacements in the next few years. -
Secondhand parts posted/received - returns? 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
This was the correct one, but unserviceable. Not I have two parts, one incorrect but OK, one correct but U/S. I have now decided to buy a new component, rather than wait about for more wrong/US ones to be sent. I want to return the one(s) they have already sent. The breaker wants me to pay for return post, as well as a 25% "restocking charge", for the faulty component. -

Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.3 Engine noise - loose air duct ? 30 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Is it just a new foam washer I need, or is there something else that holds the duct in place that has fallen off? Here are some pictures: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=16898uh&s=4 http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=zl3fpl&s=4 Thanks -
Best kept motoring or car based `secrets` 26 May 2008 (Forum)
Back in the early 1980`s I was working with young TWOC-ers and was once in a `place`being shown a ledger book with page after page of registration numbers, all of the same make and model. Unbelievable really, but it was reckoned that just about every car of that type in the town and surrounding area had been stolen at least once. -
Fuel consumption figures 16 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Yeah, right. Underlying the official figures lists is a fun, intra-industry game in which one firm\'s boffins try to outsmart another\'s by ECU tweaks and other arcane manoeuvres. Intellectually satisfying to them, results in league-table positioning for their bosses, but of no consequence to the rest of us - apart from how the resulting VED hits our wallets. -
Dual Mass Flywheel Problems - RAV 4 25 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I would appreciate if someone could tell me if DMF`s were introduced specifically to cope with the increased torque outputs of modern diesel engines, or are they also now fitted to petrol units. I ask because I am considering buying a 2005/2006 (old model) 2.0 litre petrol RAV 4, and have been reading of problems that RAV`s have been experiencing with premature DMF failure. -
Do all cars drive the same these days?? 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
In my opinion, all of these have been dreadful to drive compared to the cars I used to drive in the 90's, and maybe even the 80's. Can anyone recommend a medium size car that has a supple suspension and a civilised, smooth drive? Preferably not French, and pref not a Ford or Vauxhall and 3k - 4k to spend. -
What car for 10-12k? 2 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, Apologies if this is an oft aired subject here, but I need a new car, have a budget of 10-12k, and have no idea what to get My requirements would be; - fuel consumption not an issue, don't drive far, had a V6 2.5 auto last time, so something similar would be great - favourite car I've owned would be my 2001 Audi S3, they do fall into the budget this time round, so a consideration - I like the look of the Alfa 147, but worried about depreciation - ideally would like something FAST, with leather, air con, CD etc, maybe auto - like the look of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 2.7 diesel sounds like an ideal choice, this is in budget - other end of the scale, Lotus Elises seem to be going for around this price, as do some Honda S2000's - also seems like some BMWs - 330, 325 - fall into budget, shape before the current one, older M3's look nice Any advice greatfully received, as you can see I'm all over the shop really Thanks Dirk -
Car Makers & Build Quality!! 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
O'm also advised that the average warranty repair on a larger ford/vauhall is lower than a Merc/BMW and they are just as reliable. Would people agree with me or do they know any better. I've been tempted to change to an S Max 2:5 Titatnium or somehting that sounds like that, but at the end of the day, I fear I may be a badge snob? BTW - Mazda.Toyota, Nissan, and a few others fit in with the above -

mpv for towing? 14 Aug 2006 (Forum)
There a fairly big list of criteria new car needs to fit! This is sole family car, so needs to be fairly economical to run - (at least, no really big 4x4's) At least 6 seats Not too low slung - We live out on the moors and lanes get big ruts - 405 just about ok, old Mondeo would lose it 's exhaust from time to time. And this is the stumbling point - must occasionally tow small horsebox - combined weight of 2 ponies 600kg max, plus trailer weight . -

Bumpers 18 Oct 2005 (Forum)
First there were steel strips attached to dumb irons. These became shaped Chromed beams attached to 50's and 60's barges. Triumph tried rubber bumpers on the Herald but they didn't catch on with other makers. Renault came up with the sculpted shock resistant plastic front and rear apron sections on the original Renault 5. -
Impact with kerb (Honda Jazz) 27 Jun 2005 (Forum)
What sort of other damage may I have done...the term ?toe-in? rings a bell. I am very wary, in view of Honda dealer?s £icence to print money, to ask them to do anything other than the essential service. Would a specialist, such as a tyre depot be a better place to seek a remedy at a more affordable cost? Bearing in mind the stories one hears, I don't want to be a victim of paying for unnecessary work.
