Ford Focus2003 - Electrical power loss when turning key 29 Oct 2014 (Forum)
The car has power & seems fine but when you turn the ignition the power shuts off like a dead battery. The battery has been checked & is almost brand new, so its defiantly not that. If you open & shut the doors & boot the power comes back on, alarm & central locking then works as normal. -
renault clio 1.5 dci 2007 - fuel system fault 16 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I am really worried about this, especially as the car is beginning to play up in other ways now, such as displaying "flat battery" symptoms when the battery is fully charged and tests out perfectly.I have been alarmed to hear of others with the same problem who have been faced with repair costs of thousands. Surely, these vehicles should not be "write offs" at 100000 miles.Has anyone managed to overcome this without bankrupting themselves or scrapping the vehicle? -
Ford Fiesta 1.3 (1995) - Power Failure in Ford Fiesta 9 Jan 2013 (Forum)
The AA mechanic suspected the brushes in my alternator had gone. I have had a brand new alternator and battery fitted. Last night whilst driving home, the car started to show signs of power failure again. My wiper blades slowed down, headlights dimmed and the radio switched off. What other issues can cause power failure as I am confident it is neither the alternator or the battery. -

MK3 Mondeo TDCI 115 - Misfire on start up 28 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hi.My 03 Mondeo TDCI 115 has started to missfire and run very rough when starting from cold. Upon starting which it does fine on the first turn of the key, the battery light stays on for a second or so, while this is lit the engine will not respond to the accelerator what so ever. Once the battery light goes off after a few seconds the car can be reved normally, but it's missfiring and juddering. -
Ford Fiesta - Is this an Alternator problem?... 17 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My girlfriends just bought a second hand Fiesta (1.4, 52 plate) and just recently the Battery indicator has started coming on when we first start it up in the morning. It quite often takes 2 turns of the key to start up the engine (the first attempt just lights up all the dash then they all go off). -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 01 1.0 NATS alarm system: switching it off 13 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Is this normal for the model, or a symptom of something I need to fix. 4) When switching on first thing in the morning, the oil warning & battery warning lights come on. They immediately go out after statring up the engine. Anything to worry about. Thanks Mike -
Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - (99-05) 2.0 Diesel engine cut-out 23 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The engine of my 2.0 CDT cut out last January on a French motorway. The emergency engineer managed to restart it only after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. He had poured extra diesel into the tank without success in restarting. The car then drove without any problems for about 8000 miles. Recently the engine refused to start and the AA engineer again only succeeded in restarting the engine after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. -
Mondeo diesel start problem 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I've just change the glow plugs as i've said. The car will turn over fine but wont catch. This morning I tried so much I drained the battery. I put jump leads on it from the mrs car and after two attemps...yippee, its alive!! I'd like to know what you guy and gals think before I start spending money for no reason. Might I need a new battery, could it have something wrong with the starter motor, could the feed to the glow plugs be bad? -

Peugeot alarm - 406 HDi 31 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The car is now performing great but this time it is an alarm problem. On Saturday the alarm would not respond to the remote key fob. I thought it might be a battery fault so changed it in the key but that didn\'t help. It is not responding to the transmitter and, whilst the locks respond manually I am not sure that the alarm is being activated. My questions are as follows, Is the alarm linked to the engine management system? -
Pug 306 CL and Fusebox 30 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The infra red has never worked so everything I\'m talking about is using the key in the lock only. I changed the radiator last weekend. It involved disconnecting the battery. When I reconnected the battery -everything fine BUT when I tried to lock the door -all 3 locks LOCK then UNLOCK straight away. I know that the wiring looms from strut to door are common culprits but I\'ve examined these and they look A1 I\'m sure I remember having a similar problem a couple of years back and I solved it by fiddling with fuses etc. -
astra brake light problem 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest a solution to my problem with the brake lights on my son's 1.6 P reg Astra premier, Im minding the car for him whilst he's working away, It,s not getting a lot of running coupled with me being away on holiday, when I came back and tried to start It the battery was'nt up to the job, now normally I would just put the jump leads on it but I'd had this gadget in the boot for ages unused that works by transfering power via the cigar lighter sockets, the Idea is to just plug in and wait for enough power to flow into the duff battery, anyway It did'nt work and so resorted to the trusty jump leads, the problem now is that the brake lights won't go out as soon as the ignition is turned on, my own theory is that it may have blown a diode allowing power to flow from another source and feed the brake lights, but where are they located and what do they look like? -
jump start damage 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
About this time last year, the wife of a friend of mine found their 1991 VW Passat (55k miles, fvwsh and in excellent condition) had a flat battery. RAC were called and jump started the car. Battery was found to be faulty, so was replaced. Fair enough. Unfortunately, immediately after this had all happened, my friend found that some of the dash electronics had failed. -

Renault Zoe - Zoe range 6 Dec 2019 (Forum)
I've just bought a 2014 35000 mile Zoe with a 22kWh battery. The range shows as 55miles at 100% charge. My dealer says this is reasonable, but looking at photos of similar cars for sale, it looks like 70-80 miles is more typical. Appreciated if you could post your figures for comparison. -
Bike storage - 3 months off road 22 Oct 2019 (Forum)
My son's 2010 Triumph will be sitting around this summer while he's away [working - natch]. Ought we to disconnect and store the battery and maybe raise it off the tyres, or must I simply use it up and down the road every week to keep it alive? -
Renault Scenic - Renault Scenic 07 not starting 24 Sep 2018 (Forum)
My scenic seems to have developed a fault in that it only starts when jumped. Gut reaction is the battery needs replacing but at 100 quid a pop didn't want to waste my money. Anyone with any ideas? Thanks -
N/A - Electic only cars 9 Jul 2018 (Forum)
What happens if you are stuck in a blizzard for hours in your limited range EV. Presumably you will very quickly run out of battery for drive and heat. At least with conventional fuel that would not be the case unless you were stupid enough not to set out with a reasonable tank.
