  Fair enough. But they also send out pursuit coppers on their own, and during the pursuit the driver is on the radio to base, both hand held radios and 'telephone' type. Is it OK that they are allowed to do this, especially whilst on a high speed pursuit in an unmarked car, but any other driver proceeding at a more sedate rate, isn't?

Radio noise Charged particles from solar flares also produce intense bursts of radio noise, which peak in the 1.2 and 1.6 gigahertz bands used by GPS. Normally, radio noise in these bands is very low, so receivers can easily pick up weak signals from orbiting satellites.

  For your possible interest: The following infuriated me, until I discovered the 'cure': Problem When listening to a FM station with Traffic Program (TP) selected, if I tried to change the station by pressing one of the presets, the radio displayed 87.5 and locked up. I had to press the FM button back to the desired fm band, then the desired preset, followed by the TP button. When TP was not active, the presets worked immediately.

  This is fine with me having had two previously and been quite happy. The only problem is the steering column radio controls that the latest version seems to have sprouted. I'm quite tall (6 foot 5) and when I've test driven one, my knee is very close to the controls and they are a bit "in the way". Is there any way to unplug the unit without damaging it so I can put it back when I have to give it back to the leasing company?

  Interesting that I recently visited my Vauxhall main dealer to see about upgrading the CAR400 radio cassette in my omega gls for a cd player. I wanted to retain the steering audio controls and remote display, so I was recommended the new VDO remote display cd/radio unit. Very pleased with its performance, at least until I tried to use my trafficmaster and found it to have lost its voice!

  I have lost all sound from the radio / CD player, this just happened recently. I still have visual display of the radio station or the track being played from the CD, but nothing from the speakers. This is the original (CD 30) vaux system in a 56 reg Astra.

  Can anyone tell me why when I listen to the radio in the car with the engine off, the reception is perfect. However, as soon as I swith the engine on interference kicks in (particularly on the Medium Wave) and the radio becomes virtually unlistenable.

  Both his dealership and the Jaguar one he suggested are around an hour away from where I live so it's not easy for me to get to.   Anyway, in the meantime now the FM radio has started malfunctioning.
