Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 05 1.6 diesel. fails start in cold/starting probs 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Before Christmas failed to start, diagnosed as injector problem (mechanical), eventually resulted in specialist stripping out and reconditioning all 4 injectors. Refitted, together with replacement fuel filter unit, all reprogrammed (2 weeks in garage, mega money). 1 week ago (max 800 miles later), noted oil or fuel leak and LOTs of white smoke on starting, plus juddering at low speeds (below 30mph). -
Driving slower 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
My total time driving for the entire trip was about 1 hour more than the "norm" at 9 hours (12% increase), but my fuel consumption was 15% less than normal at 38MPG. So I saved myself over two gallons of fuel and had a much less stressful time driving. I hardly used the "fast" lane and was generally in the inside lane for most of the time. -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2.0 16V Fuel Economy 18 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Just purchased A 2004 C5 2.0 16V with 30K on clock. I have only done about 100 Miles but fuel economy seems lower than i thought at about 28 MPG. My drive to work of 15 miles each way is country roads and i hardly ever sit in traffic. I have so far used a very light foot and am not driving really hard. -
Rover 200 and 400 (1989 - 1996) - 216 (honda) won't start 12 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Ruling out the inertia switch - would stalling the car have any effect on any ignition components like the igniter unit or the ecu. When I turn on the ignition I can also hear a hissing sound that comes from the region of the fuel injection components. This lasts for a bout two seconds and then dies away. Do you think all this unburnt fuel may have an effect on the catalyst if and when it finally starts? I would be grateful for any hints s -
Focus Filters 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether all this will harm the engine, I am particulary worried about any damage to the fuel pump after reading of problems others have had. -
Fuel problem or not ? 1.4 tdi vw polo 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I have my doubts that it could be the turbo charger but I know could be wrong. To me it sounds as though one cylinder is not getting fuel to it. I am not totally sure but one day last week this same symptom appeared to happen momentarily when floored the accelerator there was a definite flat spot that then vanished as quick as it appeared (I have since done 150 miles) and at the time I though thats strange. -
Benefits of Optimax... 28 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Morning all, I've just got back from a long driving weekend through France, where, in my wisdom, I decided to buy some petrol before I left (ferry was getting in at 7am - I just wanted to drive when I was there and not spend/waste time looking for a garage). I therefore went to the nearest Shell garage, and decided to splash out on some of there OPTIMAX fuel that they say will improve the performance of my car. I took that to mean better fuel economy - perfect for what I needed. Anyway, fill up to the brim and off I went to the ferry. Arrive at my desitination about 400miles into France, (all motorway miles) tank in pratically empty - what a good job I used the Optimax I thought! -
S80 aircon and fuel consumption 15 May 2003 (Forum)
Are we paying too high a price for aircon in terms of fuel consumption? I acquired a 1999V Volvo S80 SE(170)automatic in January and have been really pleased with it - fast, comfortable and never missed a beat. Naturally I did not choose it to save on petrol bills and following HJ's advice - and what I have seen in The Back Room - I run it solely on Optimax. -

2010 vauxhall zafira 1.9 CDTi diesel - ZAFIRA DIESEL 1.9 CDTi - FUEL ADDITIVE ? 25 Sep 2023 (Forum)
I took it to the dealer but no error codes were found so they recommended I take the car for a monthly drive on the motorway for 20-30 minutes in 4th gear with revs between 3,000-4,000 rpm and that should fix the problem. So I am trying to do that. Is it also a good idea to use a diesel fuel additive to clean the Diesel Particle Filter (DPF)? I have never used an additive before and would like the opinions of others who have. nn Thanks in advance for any responses. -
Volkswagen Touran - Advice needed please. 6 Oct 2017 (Forum)
My car conked out last Sunday. The garage it is in claims it has the wrong fuel in. This would mean that from when I literally filled the tank, my car has run for 10 days and over 80 miles on the wrong fuel. So I have two questions 1) is this possible? 2) if it is possible, would the recovery guy (who came Monday) , have been able to restart my car and take it out for a drive before taking it to the garage? -
1.8 Toyota Verso CVT fuel economy 23 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I purchased a 2014 Verso with a 1.8 CVT automatic gearbox a few months back. The fuel economy has been less than I expected especially considering the Real MPG on the site. A couple of weeks of daily short trips in London got me ~24mpg. Up the M25/M1 with AC on and speed around 80mph I achieved 32mpg; on the return journey at night using cruise control for large parts at 75mph and no AC I got 38mpg. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 04 2.0 HDI high pressure regulator problem 14 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Hi please help!! I have these codes on my 406 hdi P0090 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 control circuit P0088 Fuel Rail/system Pressure too high Car starts and stops with in 10 to 20 seconds. When the pressure reaches 230 Kpa it always stops. I have good idea the pressure switch on the common rail (middle section) or the wiring loom is faulty. -
Ford Focus 2.0 tdci 2006 - Car fumes inside cabin 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
It was basically so bad it was not drivable....sore eyes, dry nose and throat, dizziness and headaches. First garage changed the fuel filter and recycling valve which was clogged and stuck open. This didn't solve anything and to be fair they thought there was still an issue with fuel injectors. Tests at another garage indicated fuel injectors leaking and all 4 replaced at some cost. -
Mini Diesel - Putting the wrong fuel in my car! 25 Jan 2013 (Forum)
So not giving up I used it without the cap. However that wasn't successful either. The pump kept cutting out and what little fuel I did get into the tank just came back out and covered my skirt and shoes in pungent smelling diesel. Not great when I am off to a business meeting!.... I now have a product called Solo Diesel and it is brilliant. -
Audi A4 1.9 tdi 2000 - Rev counter/temp gauge/fuel gauge all wrong !! 8 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Temp guage reads 90 degrees out ( degrees TEMP) so stone cold its sat at 90 degrees, and as it heads up it goes up and hence warning overtemp comes on. Fuel guage seems in-correct too, looks like 1/4 tank when it WAS 1/2 tank less than 20 miles ago. Anyone have any idea what could be going on here ?? I have access to a decent diag unit, but have not plugged her in yet. -
Ford Focus Saloon 1.8 TDCI 56 - Loss of Power following Fuel Filter Change 8 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi hope someone can help, i'm having problems with our Focus after servicing last week. SEAT Ibiza III 1.4TDi (2007) - Temp loss of all electrics on start up. 22 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Reinserted key and left at 1st notch on ignition (sorry, don't know what else to call it!) 30 seconds later, hear fuel pump pressurise, all the needles on the dash (speed, revs, temp, fuel) shake up and down for 3 seconds. Clock and Radio reset everything back to normal. Can anyone explain what might have happened, and should I be worried? -
Peugeot 206 1.4 HDI SW - Peugeot 206 1.4HDI poor fuel ecomomy 28 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Typically when i collected the car it was on empty, I put 5 litres in which did not even register on the fuel guage, I drove 5 miles down the road and filled it to the brim with another 40 litres (strange as according the handbook it has a 50 litre tank???) I drove home (about 40 miles and the needle did not move off full, later in the day I drove 5 miles and the guage dropped to 3/4 full. -
Ford Fiesta - Increased fuel consumption following mot 23 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I had my car put through the mot last thursday and the only thing it required was a new nearside front wheel. I filled the car up the same day. Since then I have noticed a sharp increase in fuel consumption. The main issue being for the first 5 or so miles (It will often register as having used 15 or so miles worth of petrol on the trip computer over this distance) of any trip. I have checked the tyre pressures and corrected these, but the issue remains.
