  • Vauxhall Adam - Oil change or wait? 17 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Hi I wonder if anyone could advise. The oil change light has come on. The car is at 10,000 miles and the service is due in September. Had a look at the level and the oil looks quite clean and is half way down. Should I change it now or wait the 2.5 month until the service?

  • Corolla 2001 Engine Oil Change 11 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Superbly reliable Corolla 2001, 30k on the clock. Semi-synthetic engine oil has been used all along. Thinking of changing to fully synthetic oil. Any comments / things to watch out?
  • Corsa oil change rattle concerns 3 Oct 2016 (Forum)
After the change however, upon start up the engine has a very metallic rattle for 5 seconds. This was never present before the oil change. If I stop the engine and restart soon there is no rattle. My simplistic view / thought is that all the oil is draining from the camshafts when the engine is standing and needs to wait for the oil pump to pressurise.
  • Should I change the oil in my new car after 1000 miles? 24 Apr 2025 (Ask HJ)

  • Why do you not recommend an early first oil change after buying a new car? 2 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)

  • Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 93 1.7td (Isuzu) Changing the oil filter cleanly! 27 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I've got a 1993 cavalier with the 1.7 td isuzu engine. Whenever I change the oil I make a right mess when undoing the oil filter - it's nearly horizontal and in an awkward place at the back of the engine. Any tips on how to change the filter without soaking the starter motor with oil?
  • Oil Changes 19 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I've read with interest the comments about changing oil every 5000 miles. Looking through my Accord's service book, Honda have left spaces for "intermediate oil change" every 4,500 miles. Is this necessary for a certain type of driving (i.e all motorway or all town driving), or is it a good idea irrespective of what the car is used for?
  • Gearbox oil change - Fiesta. 9 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Are there any benefits from changing the gearbox oil or is it purely just a waste of time and money. My car is a ford fiesta 1.25.
  • Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 05 1.5 "Change Oil" message 1 Jan 2010 (Forum)
No doubt I'll get the oil changed anyway just to be sure, but I was wondering: Does this engine employ some kind of optical translucency (or other) sensing, to determine when the oil needs changing?
  • Rover 75 oil and filter change 1 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hi Am still having the oil and filters on my car changed every 5K and is booked into local garage next week. Question is, what oil should the garage be using as i am aware that they just have one big barrell that they use for every oil change (well one for Petrol and one for diesel) Does my engine need special oil..being commonrail diesel i was wondering whether run of the mill stuff is doing any damage..this will be the 5th change this year and everything has been ok so far but dont want to cause any long term damage thanks in advance
  • Engine oil 18 Jan 2014 (Forum)
One of HJs articles in the Telegraph On-Line 5 Jan 2014, Peugeot 3008 - Petrol or Diesel,  advises changing the oil every 10,000 miles or yearly.  Does anybody leave that long between oil changes ?  - that is, if they want to keep the car. I've read somewhere that modern oils don't allow the engine to 'bed in' and thus need regular topping up and this will mitigate the lack of changes.
  • Should I change my oil? 28 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I just topped up the oil in my new car (done less than 5000 miles). The first service isn't due until 12500 miles, but I notice the oil looks very black. It's a diesel (my first) - should I expect 'blacker' oil than with a petrol, or is it best to get an oil change done before the manufacturers recommendation?
  • Lotus oil change 8 Jul 2015 (Ask HJ)

  • Audi A6 avant black edition tdi ultra - First oil change 7 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Long service etc.... the technician and front of desk are adamant there is no point in undertaking an oil change until then and the management message only presented itself because the car was set up for standard interval servicing, despite having long service oil filled as standard.   Should I get the oil changed anyway or am I being overly cautious?
  • toyota verso 2.2 auto - gearbox oil change 10 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I am changing the oil on my Verso at 6500 miles prior a run down to Spain. The first service will be done in October. Is it prudent to change the Auto box fluid as well. I used to change my last Verso (Petrol) engine oil every 5-6ooo miles and the auto box oil every 30000 miles, and both were like new after 10 years.
