  • Are you at the leading or trailing edge? gadgets 29 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Ever noticed though that you can`t `make` yourself change with this. You`re either a `trailing edge` or `leading edge` person and stuck with it ;-) Regards oilrag
  • Megane - what's happening 1 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone have any experience of the 1.6 8V Megane that might help. My next step was to start her up from cold tomorrow morning and then to replace the plugs and HT leads. In anticipation. Robert
  • Petrol problems 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have always been lead to believe petrol sold at JET stations was lower octane than others due to the fact it is reclaimed from the over run at the refineries

Hi Everyone, Would anyone have a good lead on where to get replacement brushes for my alternator. Many thanks.
  • Apologies for Backroom outage 31 Jan 2004 (Forum)
It seems somebody tripped over a lead or the cleaners unplugged something they shouldn\'t have in order to use the hoover. Service now resumed as normal. No Dosh mailto:Alan_moderator@honestjohn.co.uk
  • Interactive speed signs 13 Aug 2003 (Forum)
When these flash up the limit, they are just warnings right? They don't actually lead to a fine like a camera do they? It's just I passed through about 5 today...
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 30-11-2019 Par 3 Dec 2019 (Forum)
As you don't like the way Tesla (both dealer and manufacturer) have treated you, I would definitely look at a different brand of car. Plenty of other makes and dealers out there. Think most factory order lead times are around 3 months, so I wouldn't be ordering a car with a lead time of much more than that again.
  • Ford Focus - Rough idle on petrol focus 18 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Battery is showing as 12.6v on the multi-meter before starting up car so that and the alternator is fine. Spark plugs changed recently. Spark plug leads and coil pack appear in good condition but I wouldn't know how to check them. I believe they are the original items - car mileage is 115k. I'm tempted to change the plug leads - is this the likely problem?
  • Renault Clio 1 Diesel (1991 - 1998) - 92 1.9 Battery reversal damage 2 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Did a really stupid thing in trying to jump start this car from another whose engine was running. I attached the jump leads in the wrong sense on the Clio and didn't realise until the leads got hot. After this the Clio won't start ! There is now a near short on the chubbyish cable which runs from the battery + back in towards the dashboard.
  • Daewoo nexia poor running 16 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It idles and runs on 3 cylinders, removing No.1 spark plug lead makes very little difference, (other 3 significant difference). Removing all plugs 3 white & clean, No.1 a coppery colour but otherwise clean. Compression is 12bar on all cylinders No.1 has a good spark, and changing the lead did nothing.
  • factors affecting suspension bush wear 17 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Other than simply driving too quickly, are there other aspects of driving style that might be leading to premature wear and tear on the bushes?
  • 1995 1.3SPi Mini won't start! 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Have used a voltmeter to check that the full 12v is going to the coil. For some reason, there are no sparks coming from the HT lead from the coil into the distributor cap. I have tried a new HT lead that has not made any difference. The coil has a good earth, so I'm running out of ideas?! The coil was only replaced 2 years ago.
  • Golf MkIV - Cuts out when engine is hot 6 Oct 2005 (Forum)
By hot I mean having driven on a motorway/dual carriageway for some time or having been sat in traffic for a while. Now initially it was misfiring, so I replaced the plugs, HT leads and this weekend the ignition coil. It now runs a lot cleaner but this problem still exists... I am reluctant to go to the VW dealer (wanted 90 quid to change the leads!) - so I am wondering if anyone else has come across this problem - and if you did what you did to fix it?
  • Basic Service - Skoda Favorit GLXie 3 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I'm planning to do: (1) Oil and filter (hasn't been done for a year/10000miles) (2) Spark plugs, Ignition leads, distributor cap and rotor arm (never done in three years I have had it but I can see sparks in dark garage on leads) (3) Fuel filter and air filter (did air filter 18months ago, never done fuel) Is there anything else should be done?
  • Punto rear speaker wiring 16 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Are adaptor leads made which will piggy back off the existing connection? I don't really want a cut and join solution if I can help it. Rgds.
  • People, dogs and the countryside 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
When the owner appeared I politely suggested the use of leads. "No need" came the reply "We're in the country now" At that point I didn't reply as I had the children with me. I would have only pointed out the nuicance that he was causing anyway. Some people really make a career out of being ignorent.
  • Golf ignition failure problem. 5 Jun 2003 (Forum)
P reg (96) Mk3 Golf 2ltr GTI, 8 valve. Vehicle fails at random intervals, no spark from coil. Coil lead held to block, spark may or may not return when engine turned over. Plugs, leads, cap and coil replaced. Local VW dealer and local independent unable to diagnose despite having all the fancy gear.
