  • Frankfurt - Limoges, route advice? 18 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Here´s a good one for any of you into cross-European routes and routing. We´re heading out from Frankfurt across France to Argenton-sur-Creuse, just north of Limoges. I´m keen to stay on the German autobahn network as it´s free, and to avoid Paris which is where the TomTom seems to try to send me past. I was thinking Saarbrucken-Metz-Troyes, round Orleans and down, or maybe comeinto FRance at Mulhouse, cut round Dijon, across to Avallon-Bourges and Chateauroux.
  • Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - 2003 onwards - Offside Headlamp Bulb 28 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I can touch the cover that goes over the back of the bulb housing but cannot get my hand in far enough to turn it, never mind reach in to change the bulb. Would have been an interesting discussion with the gendarmes if the offside bulb had gone in France!
  • Why are British roads so rubbish? 18 Jul 2007 (Forum)
A road near me (in UK) has just been scraped off (by one of those surface grinding machines) and they have resurfaced the whole road, they have nearly finished and the finished result is all bumpy. In France it would be very smooth.
  • Is there a new French headlight law? 15 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I am virtually certain that I read somewhere that from 1 October 2004 (or possibly 1 November 2004) that you are required to drive in France with head (side?) lights during daylight hours, during the winter. I ask only because having been in France (open roads without cars - oh joy!) for the last 10 days, only about 10-20% of cars were driving with their lights on.

  • MGBGT - Possible scam. 18 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Last September I sold a 40 year old MG to a Frenchmen who told me he was taking the car to France. He was given all the documents ( including the V5 and all MOTs etc; the DVLA were happy he was given the V5.) I notified the DVLA of the sale and have the usual letter acknowledging that I no longer own the vehicle.
  • Citroen C3 Picasso vs Skoda Yeti 29 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Mainly shorts hops to the supermarket, and IKEA with the occasional longer distance drive to Normandie or the South of France. (I live in France) The one Rule not to be broken: must be an automatic. The Skoda being from the VW group probably is probably the better made, it terms of quality of build, refinement, and quality of ride its also slighly larger offering a slight larger boot (405 liters vs 385).
  • Auto vs Manual Gearboxes -Curiosity Question 18 Mar 2012 (Forum)
In France its completely the opposite, its about 70-30 in favour of manuals. Autos are becoming more popular espicially amongst seniors and people who live in the city but there is still a large gap. Finding a auto in the sticks can be a real hassel as nobody wants them.

  • Caught drink driving 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hello all, I know this matter has been discussed plenty of time but in my case it's a bit specific. I am currently studying in Scotland in 4th year, but i am from France. I came here from France with my car. Yesterday night, while driving my girlfriend back home after a night out I was caught drink driving with breath test a 0.79. I'm feeling a bit down at the moment and the court will be on the 27th of February.

  • British cards in French petrol pumps 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Just returned from a pretty extensive jaunt around South and South West France and I thought it was worth passing on that, after a few experiments on my part, it now appears Super U and Leclerc supermarket petrol stations are now equipped to take UK 'chip and pin' debit and credit cards in their 24-hour pumps.
  • 3500 miles in a week! 1 Sep 2005 (Forum)
    - Or 8 days to be precise; anyone else covered this kind of distance in so short a time?! Went from S. France to Copenhagen, dropped off the family then rented a Mondeo for 3 days work all over Sweden. Then back to France. High spot - getting an indicated 145mph out of the S60 on a deserted German motorway in the wee small hours...
