  Hi Had a new battery fitted recently, an exide eb712, it has 670 cca. Been trying to find out if it is silver calcium without any luck. Can anyone help please as I believe the car has to have the calcium battery Thanks

  With winter coming up I'm tempted to give a car battery a little overnight charging boost to help it over any cold spell. Can I do this while the battery is still connected to the car (and all the car's electronics) or do I have to disconnect it first?

  A neighbour of mine has a Pajero import from Japan. he was telling me today that it has two 12 volt batteries under the bonnet but dosn't understand why. He has had the Shogun before but this only had the one battery. Anyone tell me why!! alvin

  Has anyone heard of it kept having a flat battery in the mornings. The main dealer changed the alternator, battery and cpu and eventually swapped the car for another V70 but it has the same fault. I am trying to find anyone else with the same problem.

  Away fro home for 5 weeks and would like to put battery on trickle charge with CTEC charger. It's a diesel and on reading the manual it caters for jump starting using a donor veh/ battery but no mention is made of trickle charging! I would be most grateful if you would please advise me thus:- do I need to disconnect the battery; do I connect the negative charging lead to a point on the engine; Is it possible to leave the battery connected but connect the battery leads thus:- Positive lead from charger to positive terminal of battery; negative charging lead to point on engine?

   The battery on my year 2000 XJ8 3.2L runs down to 20% of capacity and c.11.9 volts if left standing for two weeks after a run or charge, and the car on occasion has not started due to a low battery. Disconnected from the car the 100 AH battery, Bosch 12 months old, holds its charge and tests OK.

  Should I investigate further before shelling out for a new battery? I have no reason to believe that the original battery hasn't been charging i.e. no battery warning lights.

  Hi, some of you may have read I bought a new Varta E11 battery for my car in the depths of winter. It was  frequently down to -30c here in Latvia and the new battery helped a great deal. (It still cranked for over 40 seconds before starting though, so you can see why I  needed a new battetry).

  I though 24 hours hooked up to a battery charger before reconnecting the Optimate may give it the boost it needs, but I don't fancy doing it if it will mean disconnecting the battery etc. I am aware that I shouldn't start the car or anything whilst the battery is still charging, but was wondering if it would hurt to just leave it standing?

    I did not lock the car....but did remove the key! TWO mornings later (i.e 36 hours) I came to start it but the battery was flat.  Volvo Assistance attended, put a meter on the battery, 3 .8 volts i.e totally drained! The car started once the battery had been boosted with jump leads. There were no "messages" to indicate a fault.

  Hello, My stop start has stopped working  owing to battery suffering from low amount of driving and cold weather. I am getting a message up "low battery start car", which isn't a problem, it starts fine. I want to top up the battery, I only have an old trickle charger with hi/low setting.

    I have had a load test done and at idle the battery is showing 14.2 under load 13.9 to 14.0.    What i would like to know is why is the battery light flicking on.

  Hi. Would anyone what the problem might be here.... My car battery dies if not being used for around 10 hours. If I went out in it just now (8.30pm) for a few miles it will start in the morning. If I dont use it for the day, then the next morning the battery is flat.

  here is my question If I change the battery will I need a battery saver device to prevent the car ECU/Radio/ALARM etc losing their settings ? note the original  Volvo owners handbook describes how to change the battery and makes NO mention of taking precautions to protect the ECU/ALARM/RADIO settings.

    When I start the engine the battery light glows bright red then just give it a little rev and it goes out and the battery then  tests 14V, so it is charging (battery reads just above 12V with engine off). I have checked, cleaned and tightened all earths to engine and body and  the same with all positive leads to battery, starter motor ect ect, basically everything while I was at it but still no improvement, also the  head lights are more of a reddish glow and not their white bright light  that they are ment to be  but do slightly get brighter when the revs rise but still very dim, wipers slow too.

  Can't say I've ever disconnected the battery from the car before? Presumably this would result in the ECU resetting itself, needing to dig out the code for the radio etc. Is it really necessary to disconnect the battery from the car, or is this just the manufacturer trying to cover their backs?
