Volvo V70 Flat Battery - E Wright
Has anyone heard of it kept having a flat battery in the mornings. The main dealer changed the alternator, battery and cpu and eventually swapped the car for another V70 but it has the same fault.
I am trying to find anyone else with the same problem.

Do you have a mobile 'phone kit, and if so was it transferred to the second car?
Had a case last week on a BMW where the car was trying to charge the 'phone all the time, ignition off, even when the 'phone was removed. 'Phone fitter got into trouble !!

Thank you very much. I do not have a mobile kit but I did wonder if the cigarette lighter might be the problem. Do you know anyone in Essex who could check all the electrics for me? The main dealer says the car is OK but I am sure it will keep on happening unless I can find the problem.

The traditional method of checking is to disconnect the battery, put an Avometer in series with the earth lead and check the leakage current. Then remove fuses until the current drawing circuit is identified. These days disconnecting the battery isn't so easy, as things such as alarms will go off, so there will be a specific procedure. Also you'll never get a zero current due to permanent radio feeds, alarms clocks etc. Howver, a current which drains the battery overnight should be obvious.

The other possibility is a duff battery - I had a car a few years ago which would sometimes be barely able to turn the starter in the morning, but be fine for the next week or two. New battery cured it.

Thank you. I believe Lancasters did this to the first V70 but never found the drain because the fault was only intermittent. They changed the battery twice as well as the alternator and cpu. Now they have swapped the car for a replacement which has the same fault I am completely at a loss to know what to do. The battery is normally fine but every few weeks it is flat in the morning. Do you know any specialist firms I could take it to?
