  I put the cover back on and the now fully charged battery back in, the lights came on. I went to start it, the click noise again and the lights went dead, tried to start again no noise and lights continued to not work.  It seems the lights only work if the battery has been disconnected from the car for a while, starting it then triggers something that cuts power to the lights needing the battery to be removed to reset.

  This led me to believe that the immobiliser kicked in (for some reason) and so this cuts off power to the fuel pump and so no fuel getting to the engine. After unplugging battery, charging it up, removing shunt fuse and then banging the fuel tank (where fuel pump was), I finally got it up and starting. Was fine for a day or so and it's happened again. Battery is old and so think it could be battery not holding charge and this low charge causing the immobiliser to kick in and so replaced with another battery I had (which unfortunately had low charge but I know will hold charge when charged up) Am charging this second battery up overnight and then try again after work tonight.

  So, I went and had the battery tested. The "drop-test" revealed that the battery wasn't just OK; it was in a very good state of health. When the engine is running, the battery was charging at a level that the mechanic felt was good.

  Phones should not be left on a car charger for more than an hour and should be disconnected when the car is started. Failure to follow these directions will cause the phone battery to be degraded and eventualy the phone willl switch off. Also there is a risk of draining the car battery. The rechargable batteries supplied with the phones are not suitable to be used in this type of application.

  On checking with the meter I only had 3 volts at the battery terminals, so I took the battery off and put it to charge. The battery was new at New Year when I replaced the original one, so it should be OK. When it was charged, I put it back on the car and got a little spark when I replaced the +ve terminal.

  I kept trying but nothing fired, and the battery then went dead. I called out the RAC who did all of their checks. The battery was changed in October 2012 with the correct battery, as verified by Euro Car Parts. The battery condition was fine - holding charge, charging fine, etc.

  My diesel 2012 X-Trail struggles to start, but only ever on the first time I use it every day. The battery seems strong and will turn the engine over for a minute or more. The problem exists at all temperatures but gets worse the cooler it gets. Yesterday was -4c and I had to bump start it off the drive, which is the first time that's happened.

  Last week I had a major fail. I left the light switched all day and my battery went dead. With a set of jump leads in the boot I thought now problem. Until I realised the is no way to get into the car as it has no manual key locks. I search the net and people spoke about one on the passenger door.

  Further to my recent posts regarding lost battery power. I have replaced the battery, I have had an Alternator / Battery check done at my local garage both checked out as having no problems. I moved on to an Auto Electrical Co, They have pulled fuses as a test  / connected a diagnostic machine and still not found the cause of the parasitic drain.

  Talk about one step forward, two back, i think i must have upset his lordship upstairs.  Having removed the flat battery for a proper charge indoors i noted the boot wasnt closing properly as i assumed no power so i just, temporarily put some hazard tape on it for partial closure, lo and behold the damn thing closed.

  Hello,   I have a problem in that the EATC is stuck on auto, which does not let me switch it off or switch off the AC, it also doesn't let me alter the fan speed either up or down or the temperature.The only thing that I have done is change the battery , but had a battery  jumper pack  attached to the battery leads so that I wouldn't lose the radio/cd  codes,It hasn't been used for around 6 weeks and only noticed it yesterday. Any help or ideas as to what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated. if a fuse has blowned would show these symptoms.

  I left it 5 mins and tried again. it worked as normal. went shopping and it started normally to get home. no signs of a flat battery. The next day the door wouldn't open again and the engine was completely dead so I purchased a new battery and also new batteries for the key fob.All lights are working on the dash but engine still dead and door won't open with key fob.I would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas.

  I bought my car off a man who let it sit on his drive for about a year unused, we put some charge in the battery from another battery pack and I drove it home with no problems. The car drove prefectly. The next day we put a new battery in the car, I dove it down to the petrol station to fill it up and again the car drove perfectly.

  My father-in-law has a 306 xrd which is refusing to start after the battery went flat and has been recharged. All other electricals work fine, it just seems as though the starter motor has been isolated. There is an isolator switch under the bonnet but he doesn't have a key for it.
