• Peugeot 106 ticking noises 30 Dec 2004 (Forum)
  Morning all Recently acquired a 1997P Peugeot 106 1124cc, with 60,000 miles. Smashing little car, great to drive with PAS etc. Its got a full service history and everything seems fine, however it has started making a ticking noise from the engine.

  Question is - can I get new adjuster parts without buying new shoes which are as new? My gneral experience with Peugeot dealers is that they want to sell you 'half the car' to get the bits which you really need!! In any case, the 'teeth' on the opposing cam, which you don't get with new shoes, has also started to wear.

  I can handle the odd gremlin as long as the core build is strong and the engine is not an oil burner, my last peugeot 205 gti put me off the marque for life... stalling, coughing, smoking thing that it was but beautiful on the right road and to be fair the body was still corrosion free.   Have just acquired a P reg. Peugeot 406 2.1 TD. The previous owner had occasional trouble with the engine revs cycling and engine slow to rev down when foot off throttle. The local agent ran a diagnostic check which reported no faults but he did clean contacts on the ecu (quote).

  I have a Peugeot 406 2.1 T D with 53,000 miles. About 1000 m. ago the engine stopped for an instant and then resumed power, this happened again about 200 m. later. At 10,000 m. I had disconnected the EGR system, very beneficially, but I don't think this has anything to do with the problem.

  Well, not overheating exactly but still a problem. I have an old Peugeot 405 1.6 GR manual that runs at its usual temperature when on the move but when stopped or at low speed (at the traffic lights, in a jam etc), the temperature gauge rises much more rapidly than normal.

  Hi All, I've had an M reg 306 from new which has always impressed me by the smoothness of its engine (for a diesel). However, I recently had the cam-belt changed (generally recommended at 50k) by a Peugeot dealer and now the thing sounds and feels like a bit of a dog. To someone with no prior experience of the car they may not notice, "cos its a diesel", but I certainly do. Seems pretty obvious that the timing's been mucked-up, but this obviously didn't occur to the garage that did the work.

   He said avoid the petrol because they were trouble, I'd not realised it was the BMW unit.  Think you will find that BMW used the Peugeot 1600 petrol in the Mini and the 116/316. BMW now use their own 3 cylinder petrol in these. Think you have just found the least knowledgeable Peugeot salesman in the land. If he tells you a pack of nonsense about the engines origin what chance is there of getting a honest car.
