Volkswagen Scirocco - VW Scirocco new engine diagnosis sounds suspect 15 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I have a 2010 VW Scirocco 2.0 TSI, with 39000 miles on the clock. It has been running like new with no signs of any engine issues. I get it in one morning at home and the engine wont start. The AA tow it to VW. VW have told me that the timing chain has jumped, snapping and bending the pistons and valves. -
24v panels, 24v motor AND 12v battery - 24v panels, 24v motor AND 12v battery 3 Aug 2015 (Forum)
It will charge from a 12v bank that delivers 10 amps, and it will charge directly from 24v panels. The boat also has a 12v sump pump and running lights, that run off a 12v utility battery. I have 2 18v panels that put out about 3 amps each, wired in series. Is it possible to charge the 12v utility battery off the 24v system while the 24v system is charging the motor's internal battery at 12 v? -
Peugeot 508 - Peugeot 508 noise 20 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Hi folks. There is a right front noise in my Pug 508 1.6 HDI manual 5 speeds when I run over road irregularities. I was in two service centers 5 times. They checked the front suspension every time and there was no fault. No noise. Later I found out that the noise which is heard somewhere under the dashboard/floor or engine compartment in the right side can also be heard if I run with the left front wheel or the rear wheels through road bumps, and it is heard in the same place (front right). -
55reg mondeo 115 2l - mondeo not starting 1 Apr 2015 (Forum)
he then put the injector back and now its just cranking over and over with a fault of low fuel pressure when cranking. but it did run before he took apart. we had another injector which allowed the engine run before he did above, So put the injector back and coded it back in, and try and it is still coming up with low fuel pressure. -
Cavalier 1.7d - Tight coolant hoses 31 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Hello I have a 1990 registered Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7 diesel nonturbo I have recently noticed that the coolant hoses are very tight. Also when it has been running there is a slight weep of coolant coming from the small hose which returns to the coolant tank at its connection at the radiator. The car has done a genuine 60,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained. -

Peugeot 205 - Peugeot 205 1.4 engine dies after warming up 30 Dec 2014 (Forum)
There maybe someone out there who might have experienced similar issues than i am. Got an 89 205 with 1.4 engine. The problem is that it used to run really well, but after replacing one alternator brush problem started. Not right after but few time went past and then after warming up the car dies and loses spark. When it's still cold, runs smoothly, but as soon as the temperature rises to certain level (warming it up like 10 minutes), engine cuts off and wont start again. -
Jaguar XJS 3.6 - ? Head Gasket failure 17 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Hello All. I have a 1991 XJ-S coupe auto. Got it 8 mths ago and run it occasionally. It had previously been laid up for just under a year, but fired up and ran fine. I have restored the interior (was very damp due to leaking screen and door seals). I run it 2 to 3 times a month and recently it has developed a misfire on cylinder 2. -
Mazda6 2.0 petrol - Pinking when hot 27 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Since about 100k I have noticed quite a lot of pinking, worst when hot and in hot weather. The car has been used mainly for long runs. It also feels a little lethargic and definitely feels hesitant when cold. This makes me think it is running lean. Economy is good, 38mpg average. I have tried the following 1. New MAF sensor. -
Ford mondeo, ghia x 2.5 v6 - Help, cuts out when tank still a third full 5 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Ford mondeo ghia x 2.5 v6 - Help car cuts out when tank still a third full - avfc When my tank reaches approx a third full, with 130 miles range showing on the computer, it has started to kick back or worse cut out, particularly in 5th gear, cruising at 70mph, has happened 4 times and been a real pain to re start on 2 occasions leaving me stuck on a dual carriageway. I'm currently re filling when half full, but not ideal for longer runs. Any ideas or advice greatly appreciated. It runs like dream when there is plenty in the tank. Ford Mondeo - Mondeo/Vectra 2005 - petrol or diesel? 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The old faithful s-reg Mondeo petrol estate is still running like a swiss watch, but the rust and tyre situation probably means that funds to nurse it through the Mot would be better spent elsewhere. we are usually short runs (10 miles return) with occasional big trips, but like the comfort of a car Mondeo/Vectra sized - hatchback slightly preferable for the supermarket car park. :-) . -
Hyundai i20 - Honda Jazz or Hyundai i20 or Toyota Yaris 4 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I know the Jazz and Toyota will be more reliable, but for my needs, will the Hyundai fit the bill or am I better just paying for the Honda as it will undboubtedly last longer and be better value in the long run? Appreciate your thoughts. -
vauxhall astra 1.7 dth 2007 - no fuel at injectors 1 Jul 2013 (Forum)
there are no fault codes stored. i have tried by squirting a bit of brake cleaner into air intake ( i know its not ideal ) and engine ran fine for a few seconds so im pretty sure it is just the fuel problem, any ideas ? wasthinking about just running some fuel direct into the top of the pump , would this work ? -
Golf Mk 7 Diesel - Golf Mk 7 mpg levels 18 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I wish I had not bothered. The mpg in the new one - supposedly much higher - is actually much worse. I run it in eco mode, I turn off the aircon, and i do all the sensible things to get the mpg up. The car has done 39 mpg from new, and its best ever run was 45 mpg. It has never recorded 50 mpg. The new car is supposed to do 62.8 mpg. -

Honda FRV - General advice for air conditioning 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
To put this into context our car is used mainly for local urban journeys with occasional longer runs at the weekend. We fortunate to live close to work, schools and church and most journeys are less than 5 miles/15 mins each (Yes we do use bikes when we can). We don't have any specific need to run the climate control all of the time although a wet pram in the winter will increase the need.
