  • Ford Mondeo ghia tdci 2007 - does Ford mondeo 2007 need silver calcium battery 19 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Does Ford mondeo need silver calcium, our Mechanic replaced with lead acid battery and after 24 hours it had drained again, would it drain this quickly due to incorrect type? Mechanic tested the alternator which seemed fine, we have bought a silver calcium battery today and installed at half 2 today fired up straight away, just a waiting game now to see if it is more than the battery I think or is it definitely something more?
  • Any - Autotrader - Waste of Time and Money 12 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I have been trying to sell two vehicles recently  - correctly priced - and get almost zero response from Autotrader while eBay, Gumtree and Preloved adverts generate loads of leads. Added to that,  the Autotrader website is clunky beyond belief - I gave up trying to upload extra photos and amend the text in the end. You cannot amend the advert title for heaven's sake !
  • Vauxhall Nova (1983 - 1993) - 1.2i misfire under acceleration-idle speed ? 25 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The temp gauge barely moves off the blue bit even after an hours running, and the idling speed is erratic at all times - usually a bit to fast. I intend replacing the thermostat, plugs and leads - but any info on sorting the idle speed would be a great help. TIA Slight tweak to subject line to identify model and problem. - PU
  • Honda Jazz - Honda Jazz - Airbag and Seatbelt Thefts? 21 Jun 2013 (Forum)
He's ended up with a £5000 insurance claim and a lengthy wait for the expensive parts to come from Japan. This lengthy wait apparently leads tea leafs to steal the parts and presumably sell them on for dodgy repairs. He went on a bit claiming it was widespread practice and further anti theft measures were to be implemented on these parts.

  • 2001 Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 LS (Engine: Z18XE) - Engine Control Management Light 28 Oct 2012 (Forum)
There is a full unit that plugs into the fuel injectors and then there is another unit that plugs onto the spark plugs with a pronged lead that detaches from it. My mechanic has had a look at my car & run diagnostics on it but hasn't actually given me the diagnostic codes. He's just said I need two fuel injectors & the units that plug on the injectors & spark plugs (with nice little drawings of the units needed) Anyone know there official names???

  • Ford Focus Saloon - X Reg - Sudden loss of power in low gear 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Battery warning light flashes on momentarily, as if stalling, but when you lift off the gas, it immediately picks up and all is OK again. Not sure if an electrical problem, leads, misfire or what?? ... Bit scary though when you are timing it to flow into other traffic. Any ideas? Thanks

  • Peugeot 407 SW SE 2005 - Removal of RD4 radio 9 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I know that to remove the RD4 you undo the two torex screws but what I would like to know is when the radio is pulled out how tight are the connecting leads in other words is there a bit of play and how much room is behind the radio. I want to fit a Connects2 CTAPGUSB001 USB Adapter which is designed for my model of car but the box which is 5 3/4 inches long and 2 3/4 inches wide would need a bit of room.
  • 1.8 Golf MkIII - Revs drop on idle and loss of power, not when cold 3 Dec 2011 (Forum)
It's been into a garage twice and had an air leak sorted and had a part replaced (can't remember what it was, but close to the size of a packet of cigerettes and the seal was shot on it). Still got the same issue. Revs drop right down to aroun 200 then back up to idle. This leads to loss of power when you are lightly applying power to maintain speed.  Its OK when the engine is cold and when you put your foot down to accelerate. Thinking of getting rid if I can't fix it.
  • Volvo V70-06 - Dipped beam replacement 6 Sep 2011 (Forum)
What seemed like an inocuous dashboard message,"dipped beam bulb failure", turned out to be not only inaccurate but unreasonably costly. The fault is not the bulb, replaced but still no dipped beam; further investigation leading to a faulty electronic part, "ballast" ?, attached to the light unit and requiring a complete replacement at an estimated cost of £1150 +vat! Most likely cause is the ingress of water during recent downpour.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C - Stereo issues 29 May 2011 (Forum)
It will turn on manually but that means you must remember every time you leave the car to switch it off. From looking at the manual it appears that the red lead is one that controls this, so I tightened up the connection on it and wrapped it in insulation tape but it has made no difference. Does anyone have any suggestion of what might be the problem and how to resolve it?
  • Honda FR-V - Battery charging/losing charge 2 Mar 2011 (Forum)
If I park up and turn off the engine I cannot use radio/lights/fan or anything 'battery powered' as the battery seems to lose charge very quickly (I'm talking a matter of seconds) and the car won't start. If I use jump leads the engine fires up straight away. I have also noticed the headlights occasionally but regularly will dim slightly now and again.    Is this a battery issue? I have put a meter on the battery and it does appear to be charging ok.
  • Volkswagen Polo III - CEL light on - cylinder 2 misfire 1 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I got a check light a couple of weeks ago and it reported a cylinder 2 misfire. I changed the HT leads which solved the problem for about 10 miles.  I then replaced the coil pack which significantly improved the drive quality.  The light has since come back on.  The car drives better than it ever has, there is no loss of power and it idles comfortably.
  • Ford KA 2001 - Broken spark plug and defective easy-out 16 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Well I tried this and the easy-out broken off in the whole. Looking at it, it seams as though there was an imperfection which lead it to break off. So now I have both the spark plug and the easy-out stuck in the whole. Could anyone out there help? Thank you!

  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 98 1.8 Central locking 'bouncing'(locking then unl 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I shall check all the connections on the central locking control box at the weekend as I understand these can work loose and lead to poor connections, but if I just wanted to disable central locking could I just pull the appropriate fuse and resort to manually locking each door?

  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 99 2.0 JVC aftermarket cd player fitting 10 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I would rather it came on with the ignition, as it also doesn't switch itself off when exiting the car. It is wired straight to the existing iso lead, barring the steering wheel controls, so does anyone have any ideas?
