  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 1.2 Starts then wont start 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Almost every sensor has been replaced in the last year by Renault, new crank sense loom, metal crash box removed, new coil and leads, relays by the battery checked and terminals cleaned, (although it will run from cold and can be restarted when hot) Its almost as if something that energises the coil, cuts out after ign is turned off and is failing to switch on again after its been run...
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 1.9 Running fine, now won't start! 5 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I have subsequently removed the battery and put it on charge to rule out power supply problems. I also tried turning the car over with jump leads from the negative terminal of the battery to the engine and chassis as well as having the jump leads connected to another car battery (as if jump starting) There were no warning lights displayed on the dash at anytime.

  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 97 1.6 car does not start in the wet... 2 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Initially the starter motor gave up so I reconditioned it - end of probs (so I thought) once the cold/wet weather began the car struggled to start but once it had then it was ok for the rest of the day. I duly replaced the coil-pack, HT leads, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor (there was evidence of arcking on the rotor and 2 of the HT leads) I still endured the non start on cold/wet days ( in the dry no problems...) I had the battery checked by a well-known motor accessory store it showed that the battery was at 13.5 volts but only 47% starting capacity.

  • Ford KA 2008 1.3 Zetec Petrol - Part location, EVAP Purge Valve. 18 Mar 2024 (Forum)
My KA is reluctant to start in the morning, I have replaced the plugs and ignition leads. The garage laptop tells me the fault lies with the following:- EVAP Purge Valve. Apparently Ford do not now hold any in stock nor do the local dealers in Swindon. Would anyone know where I might be able to purchase a new one?
  • Four legged rather than 4 wheel drives - Horses plus accidents 10 Feb 2024 (Forum)
However I do not approve of riderless horses or ponies being led on a rein; it is tricky enough to control one horse, but they should not be holding or controlling riderless horse/pony. Even more so when leading 2,3 or 4 others. This should be made illegal. I wonder how they would come off if an accident occurs as they are very definitely not in control. Are they insured for such events?
  • Suzuki Vitara 2015 on - Looking to buy a Vitara Or SX4 S Cross 12 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Hi  Im looking for some advice as I will shortly be in the market for a 2015 or later Vitara auto.  I am lead to believe the early auto units are the twin clutch breed, I would like to know if these are reliable and do not have the cultch trouble of some other makes.  I was considering a ford Kuga until I searched for info on this site and thought otherwise As I currently average around 15,000 miles per annum prior to lock down and it looks as if I'll be doing around 8,000, the diesel option would be out.
  • Fiat Doblo Van - Strange battery issue 3 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I tried to restart it and it was completely dead. No lights on the dash, nothing. I connected the negative jump lead back on to the chassis (saw a spark) and tried again. Totally dead. Do I need a new battery?
  • Nissan Almera 2003 No way to unlock my car when ? 24 May 2020 (Forum)
Last week I had a major fail. I left the light switched all day and my battery went dead. With a set of jump leads in the boot I thought now problem. Until I realised the is no way to get into the car as it has no manual key locks. I search the net and people spoke about one on the passenger door. But not on this model.
  • n/a - French 80 kph speed limit - cancelled? 17 May 2019 (Forum)
Individual departments will now have the option of deciding which limit will apply to their roads. Therefore leading to even more confusion as to which limit will apply wherever you happen to be travelling in France. http://www.leparisien.fr/societe/le-grand-retour-du-90-km-h-16-05-2019-8073642.php

  • Toyota RAV4 - Radio Code 28 Dec 2017 (Forum)
As my son gave me a Haynes manual for Christmas, it states within this that removing the battery will lead to losing the radio code. There's nothing within the hand book that states this & l can't find any recorded radio code in the documentation. There is a receipt for a new battery in 2013, so it will be coming to the end of its life.
  • Nissan X-Trail - 2002 xtrail diesel spluttering 22 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Brought to specialist who managed to experience issue, but it went away after they changed fuel filter and an earth lead. Problem back again after 2 months. Mobile tech suggested turbo and a garage to recover to and do repair. Garage inspected turbo and drove car over two weeks without issue. Any ideas ? swmbo wants a new fuel pump but big expense without 100% diagnosis.
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 31-12-2016 Part 1 4 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Car cleaning -- never use a sponge, dirt gets trapped incorrectly and can lead to minor scratches/swirling. Use a microfibre, noodle or lambswool mitt. rinse car with hose or power-washer if possible and use a good shampoo, rinse and then use a good microfibre drying towel. then consider some spray on finishing wax to keep things simple to start with, buff with clean microfibre cloth.

Cambelt snapped in the middle of the road, almost leading to fatal accident.Needs complete new engine costing £5000+ Car is 5 years old,38,000 miles on the clock. Renault's expected lifespan for Laguna cambelt is 6 years/ 96,000 miles. They are now insisting I pay 40% of the cost. 2 problems:   1) I don't have £2000 2) I don't see why I am liable.

  • Ford Focus 2001 Ghia 1.6 - Juddering on the motorway 13 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I think its the coil pack as this may explain the rough idle. I am planning on buying one this week with some new HT leads and plugs.   Any other opinions?
