Leon FR tdi. No thanks 16 Mar 2005 (Forum)
and I'm keen to see if diesels have moved on from the older vw unit. He also promised 'a great deal', although his definition may differ to mine. I've also got those naughty men with hammers in my head shouting "Depreciation...." -
Renault Clio 1.6 "HELP" 5 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Drove it home today (longest run its had in months as the guy towed it to get the engine job done, and the MOT test centre was only 4miles down the road.) and the fuel light was on as i set off.... fuelled it up, And set off home. Drove 30miles - Not going over 60mph for the work on the engine - Parked it up and thought "great!" Went out about 2hrs later and now it sounds like a diesel! -
Home Brew Petrol Additive 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I'm thinking of mixing 20 parts of paraffin to one part of thin oil with the idea that this mixture would condition the fuel system. I've heard of using ATF for this, and I've got some left over from an old auto car, but when it runs out I thought I might use pump diesel instead as this would make it even cheaper. Since mine is a 'cooking engine' based on 1980s technology, I might use a much larger quantity - say one pint of the mix to a tankful (15 gal). -
Diesel Car - £3-4k 17 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The car, as far as I am concerned is absolutely useless in the snow - no doubt due to the 19" alloys with the ultra low profile 235mm tyres all the way around. The simple fact is that the performance of the car in the snow plus the cost in fuel is untenable. Accordingly, I am looking to sell my car and spend between £3-4k on a diesel. Before posting, I made sure that I read all of the previous posts on this subject but many of the views and opinions seem so conflicting. -
Ford Fiesta - Fiesta 2008 TDCi Powertrain malfunction dash light 12 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Only running on 3 cylinders and misfiring. Had the fuel injector on cylinder 4 replaced, at a cost of just over £380. Car still not fixed, but looking around at other garages and getting other opinions before going ahead with what this garage recommended - a fuel injector loom replacement. -

Vauxhall Omega-B (03) 2.2 DTi (Y22DTH) - Omega-B 2.2 DTi Limp Mode & P1220 Error Code 1 Apr 2014 (Forum)
My "My Code Reader" shows one error code: P1220 - (A) Critical System Malfunction 1 (refer to checking procedure: trouble code description) - present. I've done the following: Changed the fuel filter, filled the new one with 'Diesel Magic' and run the engine for 15 min's afterwards. Cracked off the injector pipes and all are getting good pressure. Checked the fuel system for leaks. -
Too many decisions.... Buy a car 7 Nov 2016 (Forum)
For the £16k would hope for about a year old to benefit from warranty remaining, and about 10k on clock. Either way, would like Nav and lots of toys. Then there is the petrol v Diesel question. Perhaps a while can of worms opened. On the size of car considered I'm conscious that a petrol would drink fuel and be slow to lug a bigger car , do tempted by diesel but the concerned about potential for big things to start breaking and get very expensive quickly.... -

MINI Cooper S R53 (2002 - 2007) - '06 R56 Needs headgasket replacing. Will it be ok? 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Dear John Since purchasing my Mini Cooper S R56 I have had problems from the word go! It all started off with a horrible diesel like rattle at cold start up, the dealer replaced the cam tensioner under warrenty, this had no effect and the problem continued, however to replace this the high pressure cam driven fuel pump had to be removed/replaced, My second trip to the dealer was to have this replaced as it was leaking post cam tensioner replacement, at the same time I told the dealer the diesel rattle sound at cold start up was still there, BMW tech reps were called in, they said they had seen this on the early build R56 engines and to replace the engine. -
C`Rail misfueling Engineers solutions? 18 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Someone is going to cross a border and find the diesel pump won`t fit. An onboard car solution then, not filling station related? An initial thought was a sensor in the tank that picked up on the petrol and shut the car down, pump stops running when the filler flap is opened and car is totally dead the until tank is drained? -
Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi - Running problems - white smoke and no power 23 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I have recently bought a focus 1.8 TDCi on an '03 plate, the car would only only start with easy start and then run rough with a loss in power. I changed the fuel filter (was full of dirty fuel and bits but not metal particals), air filter (distorted beyond recognition) and the flexi pipe on the exhaust (it has a big hole in) and still nothing changed. I had times when it would run ok for a mile or so and then suddenly lose power an limp everywhere again. -
Peugeot 308 - Peugeot 308 - good buy second hand or a money pit? 24 Feb 2020 (Forum)
The sunday times review states http://www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews/peugeot-308-mk1-review-2007-2013/ The 308 has been recalled 17 times (at last count) since its launch in late 2007, for electrical glitches, numerous brake faults, fuel leaks, a potential loss of power steering and even a collapsing driver’s seat; most recent recalls have been for problems with steering, shock absorbers, faulty rear windscreen seals and fuel leaks which could lead to an engine fire. -
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - Engine warning light 26 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I have had the car for c1 year (2015 plate), it has covered 42k miles, is fully serviced and does short 20 min motorway runs and to local town every day averaging 50 mpg. The Citroen garage has replaced the fuel filter twice, the first time after the car completely dumped all the diesel over the road and wouldn’t restart on after stopping. It is currently in said garage where and apparently it showed up a fuel line code but then they couldn't find anything physically wrong. -

Help me decide- Volvo S40 / Peugeot 406 6 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Regular sound, almost like an indicator relay - Other issues unknown - is there anything in particular I should check for? - Fuel consumption likely to be better than volvo but lack of a computer means I have no indicator right now Cheers -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 1.9 Running fine, now won't start! 5 Feb 2010 (Forum)
After getting in after leaving it for about 5 hours parked up started as normal, although didn't have heated screen, hazards, speedo, rev counter, fuel guage or odometer. The headlights and indicators worked, although the dash needles didn't move at all. I stopped for about 5 minutes, and when I came back to the car it wouldn't restart. The car turned over but wouldn't fire regardless of how primed the glow plugs were, or how much I pumped the fuel. -
Cost / Benefit of Aero roof bars 20 May 2009 (Forum)
Thing is though, I can't imagine that the cost of these things could be even vaguely re-couped in fuel savings given that no matter what shape or weight your roof kit is the biggest drag must be coming from the bikes which are attached to them. Anyone tried these posh ones and do they make any difference ? -
Jaguar XF 2.2D - Is it safe?? 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Rang Jaguar breakdown again and the sent a technician out, not AA. He hooked it up to his computer and told me the fuel filter was blocked and that it was a common fault in my area and blamed the fuel in the North East ??. I took it in this morning to my local Jaguar dealership (Stratstone). I had a chat with the service manager. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2005 tdci Head CRACKED!!! w pics 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
So this morning he presents me with a cup of green coloured liquid and said its contamination, look at those tiny little particles in the fuel, he said they were going to reprogramme and drain the tank (after they had already done this once). I questioned that the fuel filter was at fault as surely it was its job to stop these black particles reaching the engine, anyway i left him to it and said i would be back at 4 to see what the problem was.
