  • Diesel Reliability 29 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The cars I had prior to my diesels were all petrol and quite a few of them had mechanical failures. By comparison my diesel experience has been absolutely trouble free apart from that wretched Renault. The pay off is that in the roundest of terms I have saved circa £20K in fuel costs as a result.

  • Castrol 'R' versus chip oil 6 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I remember being told many years ago that Castrol R was a vegetable based oil, so if used cooking oil is used as a diesel fuel does it smell like R? And if not, why not?
  • Service Station Fuel Pumps 20 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Right, bit of a moan here, but a question lies within!! Went to fill up my 1995 Pug 306 at my local filling station on Sunday. The low fuel light was starting to flicker and when this comes on I know I have 5 - 7 litres left in the tank. Went to the diesel pump and filled the 60 litre tank to the brim. According to the pump, I got 59.78 litres in.
  • Toyota Avensis Trip Computer 19 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I would appreciate anyones views on the following I have a 2001 Avensis diesel with a trip computer as a standard item. The average indicated mpg, over a tank of full, is consistantly indicating 13% better fuel consumption than it actually is. The "Range" left to run on the remaining fuel in the tank, is out in as much as I estimate that it would run out well before the range says zero, wheras the instruction book says that there should be fuel left when it indicates zero.

  • all cars - Emission failure-Solution 5 Jul 2011 (Forum)
maybe some people know this, but one can save around 15% on fuel through adding for petrol .17ml to 1 litre of petrol and diesel.13ml/litre diesel of pure acetone ,it also after a tank or so will produce hardly any emissions,as nearly everything gets properly burnt,it also cleans one's engine up nicely,no coke build up Get a syringe & just squirt it in after filling ones tank up..

  • Any - Marketing speak - when reality departs 20 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Browsing the Skoda Yeti microsite, I stumbled across this nugget of engineering know-how when referring to the new Greenline II model... A turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine with direct high-pressure fuel injection and a solid particle filter significantly contributes to the car’s top-quality handling. Could any members please enlighten me as to the specific handling merits of the Diesel Particulate Filter?
  • What car for me? 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi guys, I drive an '01 Picasso 1.6 petrol and LOVE the spacious interior. Sick of fuel prices and sick of road tax prices. I like the 62mpg of the diesel Nemo, it also cost 35 quid a year to tax it, also it seems to be another spacious beast. At around the ten grand mark for an ex demo model what do you think my alternative options are?
